Sandra Yi Sencindiver Talks Alien FX Series Role

In a new interview with Variety, actress Sandra Yi Sencindiver has been talking about her role in Noah Hawley’s upcoming Alien series, who according to this new interview is going to be a “crucial” character named Yutani (though the article spells it Yatani, we assume this is a typo).

“I can’t say anything more than that, other than it’s been very exciting and interesting to play this character. And I also think it’s a pleasure that nobody has played that character before. That’s also great for me, that I get to set the bar for what this character is. We’ll be pleased — the old fans of the original movies.”

Sandra Yi Sencindiver Talks Alien FX Series Role

We’ve only spent time with a single live action character named Yutani, and that was Ms. Yutani from Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem who was played by Françoise Yip. We’ve started to see the expanded universe feature more characters from the Yutani-side of the company over recent years, with Alan Dean Foster’s Alien: Covenant – Origins having a heavy focus on them. It would be a save bet to make that Sandra Yi Sencindiver is playing a completely new Yutani character in the Alien series.

Speaking about the series in general, Sencindiver was also very complimentary of her fellow cast and crew in the series, highlighting the world-building going on in Noah Hawley’s upcoming entry into the Alien franchise.

“I think that especially the fans who love films No. 1 [Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’] and 2 [James Cameron’s ‘Aliens’] will be very pleased with the universe and the world-building in this reimagining. A lot of brilliant people, a lot of very interesting character actors [who are] very dedicated and, of course, Noah Hawley is just a brilliant storyteller.”

I already like the fact she plays a crucial role. Exploring how synthetic nature poses some serious moral and ethic questions in a monopolistic society is an interesting one. Throw in these creations of mass destruction, and that Noah wants to explore that xenos weren't created by David will make this very worth watching! What if "we" created the society of engineers? What if man designed the life cycle of the destructive perfect organism somehow and then tried to get rid of it on distant rocky planet?

I don't see any world in which this comes even close to being as bad as AVPR or The Predator.

Being on par with Alien: Resurrection would be pretty neat, though! And both projects do have "hybrid" leads, interestingly.

    I hope you're right, I really do.

Yeah, this seems to me like a story that isn't connected with the films. A different universe all together, which I'm fine with. I might be wrong though. Whichever's the case, I just want more "Alien" stories come to the screen.  :)

I'd really rather it not be separate from the films and instead just have it be some really rich lore and story-telling, but if it's going to attempt to decanonize/retcon any of them, including the original, then I'd like it to be it's own thing.

I totally thought Hawley would have the grace to leave everything intact, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen at this point. Filming for the first season is done in a week or so.

To be fair if he was going to set it on Earth pre Prometheus then it sounds like he always wanted it to be it's own thing.

It might turn out to be a good thing yet.

That´s funny when Prometheus wasn´t about the Xenomorph everyone shit on it and now we are breaking the stereotype. ok

Also, not sure if it's a choice of words really worth making something over 'cause it's vague enough that it could mean more or less anything, but she uses the word "reimagining" here to describe the show.
