In a new interview with Variety, actress Sandra Yi Sencindiver has been talking about her role in Noah Hawley’s upcoming Alien series, who according to this new interview is going to be a “crucial” character named Yutani (though the article spells it Yatani, we assume this is a typo).
“I can’t say anything more than that, other than it’s been very exciting and interesting to play this character. And I also think it’s a pleasure that nobody has played that character before. That’s also great for me, that I get to set the bar for what this character is. We’ll be pleased — the old fans of the original movies.”

We’ve only spent time with a single live action character named Yutani, and that was Ms. Yutani from Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem who was played by Françoise Yip. We’ve started to see the expanded universe feature more characters from the Yutani-side of the company over recent years, with Alan Dean Foster’s Alien: Covenant – Origins having a heavy focus on them. It would be a save bet to make that Sandra Yi Sencindiver is playing a completely new Yutani character in the Alien series.
Speaking about the series in general, Sencindiver was also very complimentary of her fellow cast and crew in the series, highlighting the world-building going on in Noah Hawley’s upcoming entry into the Alien franchise.
“I think that especially the fans who love films No. 1 [Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’] and 2 [James Cameron’s ‘Aliens’] will be very pleased with the universe and the world-building in this reimagining. A lot of brilliant people, a lot of very interesting character actors [who are] very dedicated and, of course, Noah Hawley is just a brilliant storyteller.”

I hope you're right, I really do.
I don't see any world in which this comes even close to being as bad as AVPR or The Predator.
Being on par with Alien: Resurrection would be pretty neat, though! And both projects do have "hybrid" leads, interestingly.
What about Singapore with Peter Pan motifs?
Well if they go down that path (which it sounds like) the only thing to do is go all in and own it.
It will be much better made than the first two you mention, regardless of how left-field batshit the story ends up being.
What is Alien:R?
Resurrection, Romulus, resuromulation?
You need to be more specific in your condemnation.
Alien:R will not suffice any longer in these discussions.
To be fair if he was going to set it on Earth pre Prometheus then it sounds like he always wanted it to be it's own thing.
It might turn out to be a good thing yet.
They were very close to changing the name to that before the Fox buyout happened.
It's what I immediately zeroed in on.
Prometheus was not called - Alien: Prometheus
NOBODY.
it doesn't even exist.
I'd really rather it not be separate from the films and instead just have it be some really rich lore and story-telling, but if it's going to attempt to decanonize/retcon any of them, including the original, then I'd like it to be its own thing.
I totally thought Hawley would have the grace to leave everything intact, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen at this point. Filming for the first season is done in a week or so.
Doubling down on the "Yatani" spelling in this new tweet, but I'm sure it's just a typo from someone that has no idea what they're talking about.
More fuel to the fire this is going to be existing in its own bubble. And I'm totally fine with that.
It's from AVPR, and the fact that nobody at all knows/remembers that says all that needs to be said about that subject, really.

"And I also think it's a pleasure that nobody has played that character before" is the kind of erasure I live for.
