Following the rumours last month, it’s now official. A home release for Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey has now been announced! Prey will be seeing an October 3rd release on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K in the United States.
According to the press release (shared via The Digital Bits), we’ll be seeing a number of behind-the-scenes features, deleted scenes and an audio commentary. All versions will also include the Comanche dub of the film.
- Making of Prey: Step behind the scenes of Prey as the cast and crew explore the genesis of the project, how they gave authenticity to the story, the intense physical training the cast endured, and the effects work that brought the iconic Predator back to the screen.
- Prey FYC Panel With Cast & Crew: Go deeper into Prey with a lively panel discussion featuring director Dan Trachtenberg, actor Amber Midthunder, producer Jhane Myers, director of photography Jeff Cutter, film editor Angela M. Catanzaro and creature effects designer Alec Gillis.
- Alternative Opening Scene: Check out a scene that didn’t make the cut with commentary by Dan Trachtenberg.
- Deleted Scene: Big Warrior, Little Warrior: Check out a scene that didn’t make the cut with commentary by Dan Trachtenberg.
- Deleted Scene: Treetop Chase (pre-vis): Check out a scene that didn’t make the cut with commentary by Dan Trachtenberg.
- Audio Commentary: Play Movie with Audio Commentary by Dan Trachtenberg, Amber Midthunder, Jeff Cutter & Angela M. Catanzaro.
There will also be a special Best Buy exclusive steel-book release of the 4K with artwork “designed by popular digital artist Attila Szarka” which you can see below.
We’re awaiting news on other Region releases. While there has been no announcement regarding a follow-up to Prey, the topic of a sequel is something that has been talked about. Speaking earlier this month, director Dan Trachtenberg told The Playlist:
“I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations. The studio, myself, the writer, and the producers about what crazy things could we do next. And I’ve never stopped, no one stopped thinking about how cool things could be going forward.”

Already got the steel book preordered.
I didn't mind the actual price but yer that shipping is a real killer for me.
And they aren't. $48+$16 shipping is obscene.
For any number of reasons. More sales, updated features and art, and not least of all because outside the boxset individual 4K releases of the previous films aren't readily available at most retailers. And with Prey coming out it would be easy to put out the others alongside it on a store shelf, or on online retailers.

Literally why, what could you possibly gain with that idea, they are already pretty much perfect.
Maybe if the numbers look appealing enough they'll go back for a reprint later. BestBuy and Sony have both been doing that with Steelbooks.
I'll try and get a review prepped.

Pre-orders are now officially live.
Amazon isn't mentioned on the site, but the 4K pre-order option is live there as well. That's where I pre-ordered it (since if the price dips between now and release, they always honor the lowest option).
Can't speak for Terminator 2's release, I still haven't purchased it yet (not hot on the new colors that I've seen in the previews), but that did indeed happen with the added scenes in the misnamed "Director's Cut" of Alien on 4K.
According to Digital Bits, "True Lies" and "The Abyss" are still set for this year.
"Aliens" is being released next year. They had a tweet recently that said he would have more news on that soon.
The Abyss (and Titanic and True Lies) are all on that that "coming...eventually...maybe next year" list along with Aliens.
No idea about Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection just yet.
"Ah movement. Multiple signals...."
Where is that 4K Abyss??
Hearing this is possibly happening next year.
August 28 is set to be the date pre-orders go live for the Marvel/Star Wars Disney+ shows that are getting physical releases; maybe Prey's pre-orders will officially go live the same day (Best Buy seems to have jumped the gun a bit).
I think you nailed it. That was my initial thoughts too.
Do let me know.
Once it goes up on Amazon, I'll be putting in a pre-order straight away.
Well nothing is perfect in life is it?
For me, the exchange rate is not so bad...for now.
she's wearing a predator all over shirt.
At an overinflated price given the fall in the local currency. Maybe later, if they do a large enough run of discs.
Yeah sure...
Amazon is your friend to get a copy now I guess. The same probably applies to me.
Let's refrain from the personal snipes, please.
