As we await the rumored home release of Prey, the latest Predator film has been racking up quite the accolades with a recent six Emmy nominations (the winners will be announced in September) including Outstanding Television Movie. Prey’s director Dan Trachtenberg, who was personally nominated for Outstanding Directing, recently spoke to The Playlist to talk about the amazing achievements. Naturally, they also asked him about a sequel!
“I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations. The studio, myself, the writer, and the producers about what crazy things could we do next. And I’ve never stopped, no one stopped thinking about how cool things could be going forward.”
Discussing the Emmy nominations, Dan told The Playlist about when the messages first started coming through!
“That morning, in my sleepy haze, my kid was going off to camp and I was back in bed and I got a buzz on the phone and then two buzzes, and I was like, “O.K., that’s not good. That’s just normal morning stuff.” And then my phone started buzzing like crazy, and I woke up, I grabbed the phone and it was just normal text chains that I’m on, nothing. But then one text came in from a friend who said, “Emmy,” and I was like, “Oh my God.” And then I texted the producer, I was like, “Emmy’s?” And then he was like, “Yeah, dude, six.” And he sent me the thing for all the different categories and I was like, “Oh.” I didn’t consider it. I didn’t consider it would get that kind of appreciation. It was pretty rad in short.”
Make sure you head on over to The Playlist and check out the entire interview where Dan also discusses more about his experience filming Prey.
Actress Amber Midthunder, who played Prey’s main character Naru, also spoke about sequel progress back in January of 2023 where she coyly responded that a sequel to Prey was something that she had “probably” discussed with Dan.
“I mean, I don’t have a date for you. This is not an announcement, but I’m not saying it’s not. We talk all the time about all kinds of things and that was probably one. I’m ready. I loved that experience. I love that movie, and I would be happy to see where else we can take it”.

I think it's very telling that he came back for Predator: Hunting Grounds though, I feel like the game's audio tapes played a big part in that decision. It allowed him to do something more than just sign off on his likeness and recording a couple clips for gameplay.
In all this time, has he never been offered one for a Predator sequel?
A respectable conversation in a retirement home.
Yep!
Could also be the Prey home release. I have it on good authority that wasn't just a rumour.

I was thinking what if you took the someone like vlad the impaler and msde hin a predator. Mayve hes deforned and lack mandibles and was abandoned of warth becuse if it where ge is raised by people or have jack the ripper be some crazy ptedator that has a taste for Victorian prostitutes. I don't know it just an idea
Also, going back to 1.85:1 would be nice too. Ever since these films have went to anamorphic they just don't feel the same.
