Bringing it to his pistol, he might have been given the weapon similar to how Naru acquires hers from Adolini, my thought is that he's given a weapon for whatever reason to aid in his hunt. The two having parallel journeys which could be supported by the EU. Hunting Grounds flavor text for the Elder sword specifically says that older hunters will give a weapon (in this case the sword) to aid younger hunters. The weapon might not have originated with him but could be given to him in a similar manner.
And given Greyback does acquire Adolini's pistol, it might be why he hung onto it for so long. He might've given Feral a pistol to aid him in his hunt but once he died he replaced it with Adolini's for whatever reason.
Them, as a species, having found all their tech and discarding it the second it doesn't work makes no sense (not to mention isn't supported by the films at all). It's all custom fit, personalised, shows development over time, and you'd think after several hundred years of use most of it would've broken and they'd be incapable of still travelling the stars.
And honestly, it's always been one of those EU elements I do actually like. That's not to say all Predators are unintelligent when it comes to equipment. The Predators are individuals, it's one of the franchise's strengths, and I think it's entirely reasonable that some would be more able to understand their equipment than others. I would equate it to proper gun maintenance or something like that.
Hunting Grounds suggests that Predators can't fix their equipment but Isabelle's comments are suspect given she was on the game preserve which is a Predator operated environment. It doesn't mean much if they drop or lost something here. Predator equipment also stay functional despite receiving a ton of damage as we've seen xeno punched helmets and captured's blown out eye helmet as still being functional to some degree. Basically if they had to drop it, it's not worth keeping.
This also flies in the face of the films as we've seen Wolf improvise a pistol out of his shoulder cannon. Yeah if something is broken they'll drop dead weight but we've seen them do that already to keep a battle going. Even Hunting Grounds itself depicts Predators like Exile who uses local resources to mend and maintain his gear given he can't make proper repairs. It's not that he's dumb, he outright can't fix it due to being banned from Predator space. Or even Bionic who uses cybernetics that double as his body armor. Yeah slave labor could be making these things but that still doesn't address Wolf or Exile who are shown to be able to make repairs and adjustments in the field.
The Amengi story in-universe is also a legend. The only item we know to exist would be the sickle, that doesn't mean the events surrounding it are accurate. Alpha would have to come with an asterisk given the nature of the story surrounding him. He wouldn't be considered a legend if that was historical record.
I remember the Predator technology all came from another alien race that used to enslave them, until the Predator overthrew them and took all the technology, they basically just fix it, if they can't fix it they throw it aside, the Predator can't Develop new technologies.
I'm not sure but I remember seeing something similar, and if so, the old Predator tech in prey (although it looks awesome) doesn't seem like a good fit.
