NECA Shows Prototype Feral Predator Figure!

As part of their ’31 Nights of Fright’ tradition for the month of October, collectible company NECA has shown off the prototype for their ‘Feral’ Predator figure. This is the first official merchandise we’ve seen from the highly successful Predator installment Prey.

311459864_5734230439972627_1578946592152268919_n311570835_5734230476639290_8625342767159085595_n311457813_5734230456639292_2194828939282567810_n

NECA revealed the prototype in a Facebook post, while wishing a Happy Indigenous People’s Day. Director Dan Trachtenberg, speaking with us in our latest podcast episode, said he had seen the Prototype earlier and that more Prey merchandise may be on the way.

After NECA first announced they would be doing a figure (or possibly figures) for Prey back in July, its nice to finally have a first glimpse at their ‘Feral’ figure.

I'm curious if the novelization or script make reference to the rebreather.

    Edit-- checked the script:

    https://www.avpgalaxy.net/files/scripts/predator-2-1989-12-15.pdf

QuoteHarrigan levels the pistol, squinting at the dark form before
him. Before he can fire, the Predator suddenly turns, holding
an EMERGENCY BREATHING UNIT to his face, part of his body
    equipment

    I'll check the novelization later.

Edit again-- "later" turned out to be "right now" lol:

    Page 209:
QuoteWithout its helmet, the atmosphere of this planet would quickly become poisonous to the Predator. It had an emergency supply, but this would not last very long.

    Page 210:
QuoteIt was either feeling the effects of its wounds or, deprived of its helmet, it was having difficulty breathing. Perhaps a combination of both.
    [...]
He saw that it was holding some kind of small, portable respirator to its face, and was breathing in deeply

Reversed Ninja effect at it's finest. This is the best, storngest, deadliest Predator that kills this smaller one effortlessly, but after doing so he acts and ends just like any other Predator before him.

That's my biggest gripe with the dedign.I imagine mask like that of Elder Predator from 1715 comics would've been perfect for Upgrade.

I'm partial to that one he had in one of the concepts in the art book. Kind of reminds me of Falconer.

I think the novelization had a slightly different appearance. Would be nice if Neca dove into that. Things that could've been Y'know. Armored Assassin, whatever they described in the original movie's book, I'd even be game for a full on Amengi. It might even be an excuse to get them to do a new line of AVP figures if they did the other two that didn't make it into the movie (I think the script and novel had five?).

Predator 2 was the peak of the design and with each subsequent sequel we lost something up to the point of the Predator where even predator mask was taken. Fearl was step in the right direction, but still was lacking allot.
Feral was the furthest away. The mask can no longer function as a breathing apparatus, as it's shown originally. The pieces of armour are just magically stuck to him, not strapped in place. There's nothing connecting any of his technology together like the originals with their cables and pipes.

And  while it's not the first film to ditch the netting, it's the most egregious for it.

Considering it's supposed to be more primitive, it relies on much more abstract magical technology to make any sense, unlike the tactical designs of the originals.

You are right of course. I was referring to Upgrade and his bare apperence, where everything was stripped from him along with iconic mask.

I've said that before, but Feral occurs to me more of Superpredator variety. It feels allot more like creatures from Predators then from original films.

The idea of it's design, comes from many similar points.

Happy to have completed my Tristan illustrated box arts with Snake (phenomenal job as usual). As mentioned earlier Boar's box art is by Michael Montenat and has a very P2 subway scene vibe mixed with original Predator comic run look. Also got to shout out the short lore blurbs on the back of the box that are always a fun addition. And of course both figures look great but Snake is the standout with the fur details!

    How are they joint wise?

Quote from: SuperiorIronman on Mar 26, 2023, 01:23:33 AMTo be entirely fair, it is suction cupped to Jungle Hunter's face in the original and City Hunter's in the sequel. Like yeah he has to remove some hoses and wires but he does still have to yank it off his face.
But that's the point, we see how it's suctioned on. The rest of his armour is strapped down, not sticking there.

I always took that they can breathe our atmosphere, it's just not an ideal mix for them. For example, humans breathe oxygen, but a 100% oxygen environment isn't actually good for us long term.

But I guess that's fanon. The rest of the points about his armour count :P

Like yeah he has to remove some hoses and wires but he does still have to yank it off his face. It also didn't entirely make sense for it to be a breather either given JH doesn't show any signs of it being hard to breath, and City Hunter's has his off for longer and takes far more punishment than Jungle Hunter did. And even still if this wasn't an issue to affect his breathing, we have a few on the ship who don't wear masks. And if the environment was fine for them, why isn't it affecting Harrigan? Yeah Harrigan is tired but he just spent all night fighting an alien who can punch through walls like the Kool-aid man.

Though I will agree that while I understand the backpack, it feels a little much. Like for as primitive as Feral is supposed to be, that feels pretty advanced for a guy who has to make use of bones for body armor and food. And kind of odd they'd still use buckles and straps when even Fugitive made use of that and he came from the movie that blatantly uses hard light nano tech space magic.

Is that an Army Air Force star insignia on his arm?
That is in fact the US Army 2nd Infantry Division Patch.

I guess that is something NECA added on their own? Because I don't see it on Elder within the film itself nor the Hot Toys figure.
Believe it or not, It's really hard to see, but it is in fact actually on the Elder Predator in the film. It's just really hard to see. The next question, is it a shirt from a soldier with a patch or.....is it a tattoo from a soldiers skin? https://i.ibb.co/dP2PWyj/RDT-20230324-1521195844605035057347976.webp

A minor fix would be to make all the skulls chalk-white. They should not be the same color as his skin.

Also, how about an "insane pose"?
Agreed. That is most likely my lighting, in my living room his bone trophies are all white and grey and don't match his skin color. I'll take better photos and poses with him in more normal lighting.
