Alien is no Longer Coming to Genting SkyWorlds Malaysia Park

This one hurts…

It seems as though a fear of mine after the Disney/20th Century Studios settlement with Resorts World Genting has become reality. The planned Alien section of the theme park has been rethemed to a more generic space mission theme called ‘Andromeda Base.’

As the Genting SkyWorlds theme park opening draws nearer, a new promotional video has been posted to their official YouTube channel, showcasing the different areas of the park.

You can see in the video the new Andromeda Base section, the planned ‘Alien Terrorforma’ elevator drop attraction having it’s Weyland-Yutani logos painted over with ‘Alpha Space.’

Compared to how the drop tower looked before:

A recent Zoom call to theme park press also listed the planed areas, corroborating this development. From the Places and Foods Travel Blog:

“Slated for opening in Q2 of 2021, Genting SkyWorlds will take visitors on a sky-high adventure through nine movie and adventure inspired ‘worlds’ – Eagle Mountain, Central Park, Liberty Lane, Robots Rivet Town, Andromeda Base, Ice Age, Studio Plaza, Epic and Rio. Each world will feature a host of exciting rides and attractions for the whole family to enjoy.”

We have reached out to a couple of the concept artists who worked on the planned Alien attractions at this park and will update this story if we receive a response.

While this dashes my fantasy since 2015 of traveling to the other side of the planet to experience a fully themed Alien Land with multiple Alien attractions, perhaps there is some silver lining to be found here. If 20th Century Studios allowed use of their other properties but insisted that Alien remain in-house, perhaps that means they have their own plans for the property. It wouldn’t be the first time the Xenomorph has been featured inside of a Disney park.

One can dream.

Oh man - i am genuinely gutted about this! I’ve thought and dreamt about an Aliens inspired theme park land and rides for so long! This would have been epic in so many ways and hoping it’ll make an appearance at a Disney???

Side note - nice digging around though! Loved seeing the concept work 👍

As someone who suffers from motion sickness if said motion is too extreme, and thus isn't a big fan of rollercoasters, that Aliens/AVP Dubai dark ride sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'd want to see from a ride based on these franchises! I love dark rides and Spider-Man and Transformers are two of my absolute favourite theme park rides period, so an Alien ride using that same system would have been amazing; so of course it's no longer happening. :(

Granted it's not like I ever would have flown out to Dubai to ride it even if it had been built, but it sucks that yet again another Alien ride came so close to existing only to be cancelled.
