Alpha Predator Announced for Predator: Hunting Grounds!

A new Predator class is coming to Predator: Hunting Grounds! The Alpha Predator is based on the NECA figure of the same name celebrating 100 Predator releases.

We knew this impressive looking Predator would be making it’s way to Hunting Grounds thanks to a recent leak. However, Illfonic and NECA have now made the official announcement via Instagram:

Play as NECA’s original design Predator in 20th Century Studios’ latest video game Hillside, NJ – June 10, 2020 – In collaboration with 20th Century Studios, and game developer IllFonic, the National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) today announced the Alpha Predator, an original design by the toy company, as a playable class in Predator: Hunting Grounds for the PS4™ system. The initial run of the Alpha Predator action figure in the US will see a limited release, with each box including a downloadable content (DLC) code. Players on the PS4™ system can redeem the code online to unlock the Alpha Predator in-game. Beginning with 2010’s Predators movie, NECA has rapidly expanded its toy line to include a variety of characters seen in the Predator universe (films, comics, video games, etc.). Ten years later, NECA is celebrating Predator as one of its most successful licenses by fully realizing their own original design that pays homage to the franchise's early days. Complete with a backstory to fit in with the lore, the Alpha Predator commemorates the 100th action figure release in the toy manufacturer’s Predator line. “We have been working closely with the great team at IllFonic. When the opportunity presented itself to allow for the inclusion of Alpha Predator into the game we jumped at the chance. It’s so gratifying to see our original action figure design come to life as a playable character in the game. The whole NECA studio was elated to see the character model and we cannot wait to play as Alpha this Summer” said Randy Falk, NECA Director of Product Development. As the post above mentions, the Alpha Predator will be a redeemable DLC code included with purchase of the figure. However, this will be a limited number of PS4 codes which are included in the early run of the figure.

The Alpha Predator can wear all the masks from the other classes, adopt their skin textures and colors, adopt their dreads and dread sizes.... but once you switch to a different class, the only thing the scout/hunter/beserker can wear is the Amengi mask.

    and upon activation,  its classified as an "Alpha Predator Skin"...

    ..but I assume it's available in the class selection only as a method to easily select all the Alpha components together, because.. while I didn't check all of it...  it appears you can mix and match Alpha's assets with the other customizable classes and vice-versa.

    I do see that many people want a variation Predator vs bad blood Predator option. Perhaps the Super Predator Clan is a suitable choice, seeing as they aren't that big and complex like Upgrade, but bigger, really tough, and technologically advanced that give regular Preds a run for their money. Plus, the devs can give them the much needed lore expansion that was missing in Predators.

    The issue I see with the Upgrade (Assassin) is that outside of hit-boxes having to change they would need to alter animations or would need to be redone for him. He's just really big. He'd also need to have weapons altered since his gun is mounted on his arm so they can't reuse the firing animations. He's also too big to fit into most spaces players would be. Basically meaning Predator can't reach the fireteam and they can just wait him out which is already a problem with Backwater under one of the docks. Assassin also has the ability to make him mostly bullet proof. So aside from balancing that they'd either do it or leave his most notable feature on the cutting room floor as no current system would enable this unless it's on or off the whole match unless it's added as a gadget for him but it'd be development time on a feature only he can use or they'd add it for all Predators and we keep getting new models so it'd have to account for them to even if it's just a texture swap.

    If anything is represented from The Predator I'm expecting Fugitive.

    I only have the Elder and City Hunter. That and this non-Hot Toys Mike Harrigan is all I ever wanted.

    Well, Hot Toys are pretty hot. I wish I'd gotten some of their Predators figures before the after market prices became insane.

    And yeah I was always going to buy the Alpha Predator figure, though it's a tad unfortunate that it only seems like the code will be included in the initial NA release and nowhere else. But at least if it's just an early unlock essentially then everyone else can still pick it up later when it's released properly.

    Plus now I've got the new Elder and later Samurai Predators to play with in the meantime, so that's not so bad!
