Carrie comes across really well on Twitter, seems very grateful for her experiences on Aliens and always seems to find the time to interact with her followers. Can't wait to listen to this when I get a spare hour (probably tomorrow evening). :)

Of course, i was a little pissed because you didn't include MY questions (how dare you!?) but just a little  :)

Sorry, can't fit them all in and always conscious of time with the guests.

QuoteIs there any possibility for getting Sigourney for next Alien Day? That would be awesome.

I'm gonna go with "no" for now.

Absolutely brilliant Podcast. I really enjoyed that. Carrie is such a humble, likeable person who comes across so well. Great questions too guys - loved the fact you didn't go over the same questions that have been asked so many times in the past.

Thanks, Prez! Carrie was amazing to chat to! That's something we're conscious of. It's boring for the guests and for the listeners. Somethings can't be avoided being repeated but I'll try to put a different spin on them in that case.

QuoteSo then - how about finally getting James Cameron on your podcast eh ;-)

    See above about Sigourney!

    Thanks Old One.

Even Rodney Dangerfield's Back to School beat ALIENS in box office gross. LOL.

Hicks, sorry you never got to expeperince 'Alien War'...People will tell you that the Colonial Marine actors were cool and imposing (and they were)...but no one mentions the female (andI think they were only female, though I could be wrong) who literally stood in line with us for ages...and she WAS annoying, so when she was grabbed in the elevator at the end of the tour it was quite cathartic...that girl needs an Oscar!

Quote from: Kimo on Apr 27, 2019, 12:35:03 AMAlso the biggest thing that I was shocked about was? that Carrie never realise how big of a thing Aliens was until she was doing the conventions.

I think 20th Century Fox understimated the market of ALIENS merchandising, post ALIENS, but the licenses were still being pumped out. You had the successful KENNER toylines exceeding sales expectations and Dark Horse Comics. In the late 80s early 90s, it was fast moving times and stuff would go out of fashion real quick in those days.

If my memory serves me correct mainstream audiences moved onto TERMINATOR 2, then Jurassic Park. Then videogames started to catch up and in the 90s people were more holistic about music, politics and fashion.

I'd argue videogames were what kept the ALIENS flame going in terms of public awareness. That and lousy film sequels.

Great podcast guys. Can't wait to see who you guys get in the future from the films. Keep up the good work. Loved the part when she tells us about her set visit on Alien Wars and that woman who was being rude to her when taking a photo not realising who that teenage girl was. Also the biggest thing that I was shocked about was? that Carrie never realise how big of a thing Aliens was until she was doing the conventions.

My brother in law is schizophrenic. The illness is often preceded by mood disorders and emotional issues. He personally has had learning and personality issues his whole life prior to showing symptoms of schizophrenia.

So in the context of Jake Lloyd do you think his parents were a tad selfish allowing him to be "put on stage".

Also mood disorders and emotional, interpersonal issues do not maketh a schizophrenia, nor gives anyone a pass to diagnose others on symptoms alone.

To your first question, I have no idea. I don't know much of anything about him, his parents, or what they should or should not have done.

Next I wasn't suggesting that you diagnose anyone based on those symptoms or that those issues automatically make you schizophrenic. Not sure where you're getting that. I was suggesting that Jake probably had other personal issues going on other than just "letting playground taunts get the better of him."

Good she pulled through and made a life for herself rather than going off the rails like, say, Jake Lloyd (STAR WARS- Phantom Menace) who let playground taunts get the better of him.

Because everybody and their dog throwing shit at a little kid for ruining their supposedly favorite movie series for years and years is just mere playground taunts.
Kid got destroyed so mercilessly from all directions, classmates, adults like critics and fans, later the yellow press even his sorry state after growing up with all that shit was the butt of a lot of jokes. Hell, he still gets made fun of today.

I doubt a lot of people come back from that.

    Jake Lloyd is also schizophrenic

Right up there with the Kash and Steedman interviews. I smiled quite a bit the whole way though.

Jake Lloyd spent 6 years as a child actor. 4 of those years was promoting THE PHANTOM MENACE before, during and after.

    https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005157/

What I was saying was Carrie Henn knew what she'd get as a child actress with taunts of "Newt" so opted out from returning to acting.

Celebrity spectators address this child actor paradigm by saying "collect your paycheck, then gtfo", return to normal life.

Carrie Henn waited until she was an adult before dipping back into ALIENS conventions with a long break between 1992-2001. Granted I don't know if that was conscious decision, on her part, to avoid the pitfalls of child acting, or the way the cookie crumbled along with a desire (from an early age) to become a teacher.

Good interview, that flowed. Carrie Henn was a good interviewee and a lot more insightful and honest here than she'd been on the ALIENS DVD extras.

Good to see she finally admitted it was difficult being a child actress while simultaneously being a forces child. It was a question I had in the announcement thread back in February 2019.
Good she pulled through and made a life for herself rather than going off the rails like, say, Jake Lloyd (STAR WARS- Phantom Menace) who let playground taunts get the better of him.

I liked the question about what she thought of toy collectors around the world having a likeness of her Newt character at that point in time.
    Carrie Henn- (awkward silence)........erm? It's very.....weird.

Didn't know she attended the ALIEN 3 premier, but I didn't get her impression whether she liked ALIEN 3 or Resurrection in an objective way.
She seemed more fond of her trip to ALIEN-WAR (I am assuming the Trocadero).

But by her own admission the series (in her mind) was "old hat" by 1992 by hers and her family's words. Again I'd read she felt that way in retrospective interviews, stoked by fan convention appearances and the then News of a Blomkamp ALIEN-5 announcement (2015).

I only wish a few more shout-outs and fan questions were asked including whether she'd seen THE PREDATOR and what she thought of the filmed, but subsequently cut, time travelling Newt post credit sequence!
