Following some conservative comments made by Shane Black regarding potential sequels yesterday, long-time Predator series producer John Davis has revealed in a new interview with Variety that he’s got ambitions to keep the Predator series going for more films following The Predator’s release!
The producer says that “The Predator” will set up two sequels that he hopes Black will return to direct. But Black doesn’t want to get ahead of himself.
“I would love to say we’ve been planning a trilogy, but I take one day at a time,” he cautions. “In motion-picture terms that’s one movie at a time.”
Shane Black also talks about working on the film and the delicate nature of balancing the humour with the seriousness of the situation, saying that he took a “Butch-and-Sundance approach” to the balance. Davis also went on to compliment Shane’s work on the film for “finding a fresh take, and for grounding the scares by creating more believable characters.”
“This is an auteur-driven reimagining,” says Davis. “Shane Black has a voice and a signature, and it kind of re-enlivens the franchise.”

Good one
1 person with a cellphone and some neca figures could've made better movies than the two we've got so far.
To me it sounded more like him saying Fox are considering something in the future. Not that he'll personally be involved.
Hell, maybe Fox even prodded him to tease it to see what kind of reaction it gets.
For me, the problem is more along the lines of, "the avp movies were terrible, adding copious amounts of shane black humor will merely make a potentially terrible film just that much worse". I'd love another avp, but not if it's about 2 guys in some small town making dick jokes while aliens stalk them through a cornfield. We might wind up in Eric Red territory.
If it's not that good, I really do not want to see him make an AvP on Earth in the present, and if we're unlucky, Upgraded preds vs Upgraded aliens. I know there's nothing to indicate he would do that, but that is my worst case scenario of bad ideas and we still have to see if he did right by The Predator.
I admit I may have overreacted. But the way he said it, sounds like he thinks it's a cool idea. Wouldn't be surprised if he has thought about it.
...What? Where... Where do you get that from?
In fact as many times i said, the movie without the upgrade crap looks more interesting for me.
And i really hope black respect the rules from the old movies, all the hunting culture, because the dna splicing conquering worlds sounds like crap
I'd like to see maybe some kind of clan war scenario. A clan of super Predators are causing chaos, so a clan of elite Predator's go on a hunt to stop them. It would just be good to see the classic Predators not treated like crap and have them be badass again.
Really? They already said this is a sequel to not only all Predator movies but also the AVP movies, for some reason.
So this is a new continuity?
But the whole AVP aspect was so brilliant because it was a simple nod to another cinema great in a 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' moment in P2.
Let sleeping dogs lie and focus on returning both franchises to their former glories.
With regards to direct sequels, I've just touched on it in another thread but one could follow Predators - something like the ark has all previous co-ords mapped and the kid can decipher what is where etc.
All the Super preds/bad bloods are dead; but the classics send scouting parties to see WTF has gone on. Humans get to the game reserve, yautja get to the game reserve - Game on!
Direct sequel to The Predator is business as usual for Yautja. It's hot. It's somewhere equatorial. Oh look - there's some guts on the floor and, what's that? Yep. Some poor sod strung upside down minus a few entrails.
Allow the Predators sequel to veer off into Dark Horse/non-canonical realms and give us a 'proper' entry to the Predator series with a direct sequel to this one.
I think that's all parties happy then. Series expansion *AND* classic Pred action with potential for tie-ins/crossovers.
I see, thanks for clearing that up.
So if this is p4 what was p3? (predators?)
I want to know what shane said about the placing of this movie. I haven't seen him mentioning anything about that this is p3 otherwise the movies title would have been predator 3
Halloween 12456 or Halloween 1278 or Halloween 1 - 2018
Is this predator 3? Or what?
Ironicly The Predator is predators 2. P1 and P2 was about Predator hunting humans. AvP and AvP-R was about Predator hunting Aliens. Ps and TP is about Predator versus bigger Predator.
Lets continue with the confusing naming for the hell of it.
A prerequisite for that, aside from the financial point, is a good movie that leaves the audience wanting some more, and boy are they traying to get this one right. They tested the hell out of this, reshot the 3rd act and now add two days of some more filming.
No matter how this turns out, they tried. I really don't want to know how much money they already spend factoring in these long reshoots and almost a year a half on post production... and costumes, visual effects, sets and stunts that will now never see the light of day.
Or they save a bunch of cool stuff for a potential sequel. That's what I loved about Godzilla 2014, it was meant to stand on its own and tell a full story. It didn't feel like it was just stretching out a couple of cool ideas and holding a lot back.
The Alien franchise never started doing it until the prequels.
True, and then we actually never end up getting one...
It's par for the course these days with franchise properties. Everyone wants a trilogy or cinematic universe. It seems like Black is only focusing on this one at the moment which is good. The biggest reason these franchises/universes fail is because they try so hard to cram set up for future films in the first one.
