The Art and Making Of Alien: Covenant Cover Art!

The Art and Making Of Alien: Covenant Cover Art now online! Following our first look at some cover art for Alien Covenant: The Official Collector’s Edition earlier this week, we also now have a glimpse at the cover art for The Art and Making Of Alien: Covenant!

“Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. A beautifully lavish art book celebrates the vision behind the movie. Sumptuous artwork and behind-the-scenes photography reveal the design and development of the movie, including interior sets, outdoor shooting locations, technology – and of course, the Aliens themselves.”

Dane Hallet’s artwork on The Art and Making Of Alien: Covenant cover art.

Our first look at the cover art comes via PREVIEWS again and treats us to another piece of Alien: Covenant related artwork by the talented Dane Hallett (we’ve seen some of his artwork on one of the Alien: Covenant crew shirts).

The Art and Making Of Alien: Covenant is currently scheduled for release on the 23rd of May on Amazon. However, Previews has it down as the 24th of May. It is also available for pre-order on Amazon (UK and US) for £29.99 and $39.95.

Arrived in the post today. Nice book. Some great imagery and insight. Only complaint is the lack of anything surrounding Shaw (especially after hearing Dane Hallet and Matt's interview on the Perfect Organism podcast) ... keep in mind I've only had a quick glance at the book.

They did the exact same thing with the novelisation for me - sent me an email saying it had been indefinitely delayed, then another one telling me it was on its way the very next day lol.

If the title of this has now changed to The Art and Making of Alien: Covenant, what's the point of the other book? I thought this was supposed to be artwork and the other one was the making-of stuff?

Sure, but he didnt say he didn't know what had made it beyond concept into production, he said he didn't know what had made "the final cut".

Might not mean anything of course.

On his facebook page when someone asked, Hallet says "I swear I'm not being intentionally vague, but Im not sure what made the final cut. Sorry man".

So can we infer then that his design above *was* built, and filmed, but he doesn't know it's actually in or not? Rather than not knowing if it was even created by the creature team. Or maybe he doesn't know if it has been used in CGI.

At the very least it sounds like he thinks it might be in ...

Well we don't know if this is one of the concepts that was used or not. It's not unusual for them to do loads of concepts and not go further with them.

"I think he actually made this concept art before he actually started working on Covenant, thats why I'm thinking that nothing like this image will actually be in the film. I hope I am wrong though"

It's more or less a drawing of Carlo Rambaldi's alien head from '78. I hope they somehow include it, but it's not really concept art if it's been done before.

I recall that I loved this particular design when it was previously shown around here.  Sadly, I reckon it's somewhat 'Giger'-esque look will NOT end up anywhere to be seen in COVENANT.  But I'd love to be proved wrong.

Now, that's far superior to the chunky, beluga-like Neomorph design from the 'Prometheus' concept art.

Like Hicks, I've always loved the version of the famous head without the cowl, showing those empty sockets. They were probably trying to go for that with the Newborn, but it failed. Much better done in this piece of art.

This, I wouldn't mind, at all. It looks like it would fit right in with the kind of landscape environments Giger used to visualise.

Reminds me a bit of the face of the Beast, from 'Krull', actually. I always did like that creature's facial design.

Can't really judge what the rest of the body looks like, of course, but I like that head.
