NECA Reveals Aliens Series 10 – Kenner Tribute

The 2016 San Diego Comic-Con is well under way this weekend and NECA have revealed their lineup for Aliens Series 10, coming to shops around November 2016.

Previously, NECA released the one-off Ripley Kenner Tribute figure back on Alien Day but Series 10 is entirely dedicated to the Aliens Kenner figures of the 90’s. The set features brand new versions of the Queen Facehugger, Gorilla Alien and Mantis Alien, each with new detail and articulation. You will also get a copy of the original mini-comic that came with the figures too.

Over all, I'm a tad underwhelmed by what we've seen.
I'm gonna get the isolation xeno for sure, and I think the joker xeno is cool enough to get.

Aliens wise though I'm not too impressed with Toy Fair this year.

    Spoiler
Their deluxe Evil Dead Ash looks awesome though and will make great USCM fodder

That might be because they have a whole assortment of Covenant figures that they aren't allowed to show, and that's where they've been putting their effort.

    Transmitted from Zeta Reticuli.

Hmmmm, that Joker xenos might be worth picking up just for the laughs. Unreal that those silly hybrids are getting a figure all these years later. Maybe they'll do the hybrid from the Witchblade/Darkness series or the DotS hybrids next!

Quick question on a couple figures...

Is the NECA Alien that was released at Walmart the same as the version 2 release?

Same question for the Genocide red and black warriors.  Are the ones released later individually the same as the 2-pack versions?

    Hello fellow collectors.

I only just started collecting some Neca Predators and would like to add some Aliens to the mix as well.

Mainly I would like the standard drone or warrior and perhaps a big chap type. As with recent Predators that jave updated articulation, is there some recommended Aliens to pick up, or will some better ones release soon so better waiting?

Also will there be a re-release of the Queen by any chance?

    Any recommendations welcome.

    Thx,
    G

A re-release of the queen has been confirmed.
As far as aliens goes I'm not sure we'll see a re-release of the brown/blue/black warriors anytime soon. They're still easy to find on amazon and ebay, I've seen them listed still as only slightly above retail price.

As far as the most recent releases goes the albino warrior and the gorilla alien are very solid figures all around.

I would love it if we got a figure of the U-headed xenomorph that Tristan posted a concept of back in July. I'm not sure if it will ever actually appear in the comics, but I'm still curious about what it could have been.

    Do you have a link?

    Thats...interesting.
It's not something I'm opposed to seeing, but it is odd looking.
I, uh, yeah. I'm not sure how I feel about that design. It sure is a unique take on an Alien, though.

It appears in issue #2 and Extravehicular. It's not totally clear what exactly it is, but issue #2 might imply that it produces eggs, so it may be involved in eggmorphing. I could be wrong, though.

I'm nowhere near up to date on reading Defiance, is it actually like literally a Praetorian in the comics? What issue does it show up in? And is the figure's design specifically based on the Praetorian design?
  12. windebieste
Ya.  For sure.  I just don't find it that satisfying.  I can't see myself purchasing this item.  Oh well... It's not like I've got a shortage on my Want List.  I really don't need another, "Oh Hellz, YEAH!  I Gotta get that!" item on my list.

I'm sure NECA's upcoming 'ALIEN: Covenant' figures will fill that role in a much more satisfying way.  Before you know it, the intervening 12 weeks (or so) between now and the release of that movie will be over in a flash and we'll be drooling over the new NECA 'A:C' figures.  Yeah.  I want to see those before I slap down cash on a figure I already own that's been given a new head and color scheme.

I love the turnaround time we have these days. Ahab got a figure before he even appeared in a comic, now Tristan's Praetorian is getting a figure only about a year after first appearing. Exciting times!

Oh, yeah.  So true!  Let's see NECA include that feature in their release version of it.

Mine is getting a little worn out around the mechanism so if you're handling it, it can sometimes spontaneously explode.

Surprisingly, the Scorpion Alien resembles your standard xenomorph more than most of the other outlandish '90's Kenner items figures from this range.  I have owned one of those for about 15 years now.  Mainly because, yes, it does look like an Alien rather than the result of some whacked out toy designer taking notes during an acid trip for inspiration.

You're forgetting the best part - the Scorpion Alien can EXPLODE if you push a button at the base of its spine. And then you can put it back together and make it EXPLODE AGAIN.

Almost makes 'em look like a set of traffic lights, yeah.  ...or, make 'em look like toys.

It used to bother me, too.  I was never interested in the Kenner stuff of the 1990's.  I always thought they were ludicrous and silly and as such I don't own many.  These days I look back at them and think they're quaint.  In a way that weird 20+ year old toys can be.  Mantis Alien is kinda ridiculous.  Absolutely.  These figures originally had little comics included in them.  For this particular Alien it was revealed within its that it originally spawned inside a giant mantis.  lol.  I swear, it doesn't get dumber than that.

I think that NECA are doing a great job on revitalising them, though.  Mind you, I'm looking forward to seeing what other 1990's figures NECA will craft tributes to.   Crab Alien..?  Can't wait for that one!

I just got the Gorilla Alien as IMO, that's a much more plausible creature that a facehugger would attach itself to, not an insect such as a Preying Mantis, just doesn't make any sense to make a fig of. I also heard that it's very difficult to stand up & pose due to the legs being so long. I'm ol school when it comes to my Aliens. I just like the humanoid  bipedal versions such as the Drones/Warriors. I will make an exception for the Dog Alien as that is an awesome sculpt.  I'm a late comer to the NECA Aliens//Predator game, so only have Grid Alien that came with Celtic Pred, a shotgun blasted Alien that came with Hicks & Gorilla Alien. I hope to snag a few of the Warrior/drone versions if I can ever find them for a reasonable price, Dog Alien as well. Not really a fan of the Red, Blue, Green, White versions. Makes them too cartoony IMO.
