Prometheus Sequel Now Titled “Alien: Paradise Lost”!

Ridley Scott has just dropped a pretty big bombshell in an interview with HeyUGuys while doing The Martian pressrounds. Scott has revealed the title of the upcoming Prometheus sequel. It won’t be called Prometheus 2 – the movie is now called “Alien: Paradise Lost”! It’s a very surprising move having Alien back in the title considering Prometheus was supposed to be a standalone franchise. And how does this influence Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel?

Scott also mentions a poem in the interview – he’s referring to the Paradise Lost poem from 17th century poet John Milton which deals with the Fall of Man, and the temptations of Adam and Eve. Alien: Paradise Lost is still due to start filming in February 2016 and the story is rumoured to have Shaw and David travelling to the Engineer’s homeworld. Thanks to MrSpaceJockey and Beatnation for the news.

Even if you just dropped the Prometheus 2 bit and called it Paradise Lost, that would be infinitely superior. But no, studios apparently think we're all idiots who won't realise it's a sequel unless it has the right word in there somewhere. Honestly, it's a miracle the new Bond film isn't called 007: SPECTRE.

Quote from: RakaiThwei on Sep 25, 2015, 04:12:24 AMWe don't know so far but all signs point to that he might be ignoring Alien 3 and Resurrection. Even Michael Biehn has mentioned that is Blomkamp's intention, though everyone seems to want to ignore this.

Maybe because the only person who can really say for sure, Blomkamp himself, has so specifically avoided saying he's going to undo 3 and 4, and even hinted otherwise at times?

I'm not gonna put too much stock in what Biehn says when the only connection he has to the movie is a hoax Twitter post saying he's in it that was quickly debunked, no offence to him. Same goes for anyone else. I'm waiting for it to come from the horse's mouth. And it hasn't.

I just hope think twice instead let Blomhack erase the masterpiece that is Alien 3 -Assembly Cut- in favor of wet fan-fiction, if Blomhack can't think a a way to tell a new story without erase the prior movies then he doesn't deserve write/direct an Alien movie.

Well put. Hopefully this is Scott's endeavor to keep Blomkamp's ambitions in check, and will succeed in doing so *fingers crossed*!

didnt he just say that he wasnt going to tie it to Alien till film four and bam! This movie is now going to be called Alien something, something. . .

    come on.

Seriously, this series is quickly taking over the worst spot of the Alien/Pred franchise.

Why are there 3 more movies from this thing coming up? Did Scott actually find the devil and sold his soul?
And the devil was like, "MWA AHAHHAHAHHAHA! Make a reference to me in one of the titles. MWA HAHAHAHAHHAAHAAAAA!"

In Paradise Lost, Satan and his fellow fallen angels planned to poison earth and God's favored creation - man. If the engineers on 223 are indeed fallen angels then they weren't responsible for the creation of man. Thus having Paradise Lost in the title already implicitly answers alot lol

I really thing Paradise or just Paradise Lost should've sufficed enough, the tacking of the Alien title just makes it feel like it's meant to draw in more audiences in the seats. Financially, that does make sense but it just feels... forced.

It's an alien movie... I mean my goodness for all we grip we're getting a lot of content in movies, comics and games. Why are so many of us complaining about this?

Remember, Prometheus started because Ridley wondered why no one ever asked what that space jockey was. So he decided to tell a movie about it and Scott always thought the alien was a bioweapon. What started off as a generic alien movie branched out into epic territory and got the name Prometheus. However the idea got way the f**k too big and out of hand, so we got what we got in Prometheus. Yet the man simply forgot that the space jockey is in fact IN alien. It's the start of all the events in the alien universe. Yes, Prometheus is a prequel. Adding Alien to the title merely brings it home to it's roots.

The title is great.  Shows what direction they are moving in.  I'm really interested in this new breed of Alien Ridley is going to introduce.

Same, new breeds of alien are always interesting to me.

As for the title, I like it and yet I can see why it raises concerns in other people. Especially as some of you said, it's been confirmed that this sequel may deviate even further away from Alien.

But things are subject to change, so who knows what the final film will actually be like. It depends on what they meant by the whole deviating further away, I don't remember reading anywhere that they would completely avoid Alien related things all together. So it might still have some connectivity.

So glad to see this name change.  This is good News.  We all know that 'Prometheus' was part of the 'ALIEN' series - denying it was always pointless.  This action cements it into place inarguably and titles mean a lot.  The amount of freight they carry behind them determines all kinds of expectations.

The thing is, if they were going to do this then they should have done it with the first film; the fact that they're doing it to the second film which is confirmed to have even fewer, if any at all, connections to Alien is really ironic and indicative of a sales marketing gimmick to increase ticket sales.  I see nothing wrong with just naming the sequel "Paradise Lost", it would have been a nice and succinct title.

Besides, 'Prometheus 2'..?  Really..?  How corny was it going to get?  Not withstanding Shaw and David's continuing exploration of the themes established in the first movie, how is Weyland Industries responding to the events set out in the first movie?  ...by sending out the ship, Prometheus 2, to investigate?  Covered in so much corn, I tell you and completely lacking in any merit in terms of story narrative.

As far as Blomkamp's movie goes.  The title is not even known so it's still subject to every possible change you can care to nominate as far as I am concerned.   I suspect once we know the title, we'll know exactly what the film will be about.

For all we know, Blomkamp's movie will be one of the speculated 'Prometheus' sequels.

Either way, 2 fresh entries in the series is a great thing.  I'm hoping Scott's control over these will now put the licence back on its feet to become a decent quality series once again.

    Soooo looking forward to this.

Odds are Fox rammed the "alien" in the title. But come on guys this is a movie set in the alien universe and ridley's concept of the alien being an engineer bioweapon and the prometheus (now alien) series is the explanation of why man creates these horrible weapons. Dude's it's an alien movie -series. We're getting to see the build up of what happens when gods run amok with power.

I wonder if people will be all for a Predator movie with no Predator, or an AVP movie with no Alien or Predator. :D  Though for the latter option, some fans may actually claim that would be better. :-\

I'm guessing the 2016 supposed release date was announced ages ago mid 2014 or something before Ridley was caught up in the production of The Martian.

It's hard to know if this is a studio cash in decision... they know Prometheus got a lukewarm reception, perhaps they think sticking Alien in the title will be good for ticket sales...

After how they screwed the jockey origins (incomprehensible alien to bald dude) I don't think they could do more damage, so if this is a change in direction perhaps it is a good thing...

I guess we won't know until some plot details surface. Also saw that it's been reported as March 2016 release?

It seems conturbed when placed in the series' continuity...I understand it from a marketing point, but it just doesn't sound right.

Agreed, calling it simply Paradise Lost would be a thousand times better.

^This, the only thing adding "Alien" to the title will do is piss Alien fans off when they find out there's nothing "Alien" at all in the film.  To be blunt, Prometheus should never have been a spin-off/prequel to Alien; it could have been a nice film set in its own world but the moment Alien is added to the mix, it became a convoluted mess.  I guess Riddles couldn't help adding a sales marketing gimmick to 2x the audience for his film.

If filming is starting in Feb 2016, that's pretty much impossible.

Quote from: predxeno on Sep 24, 2015, 07:09:12 PMUnless proven otherwise, I really get the feeling that Ridley is trying to milk the Alien franchise's logo rather than tell a decent story.

Given what a u-turn this is from "the sequels will move even further away from Alien", I'm inclined to agree.

I did read something interesting in one report suggesting he might just be using the name to try and delay the Blomkamp film. No evidence, just the reporter thinking out loud.
  20. predxeno
So the Prometheus sequel will be titled Alien: Paradise Lost, but it will feature no connections at all to Alien.  Is anybody else getting mixed signals here?  Unless proven otherwise, I really get the feeling that Ridley is trying to milk the Alien franchise's logo rather than tell a decent story.

So I guess you were talking rubbish when you said the sequels were gonna move further away from Alien...

I really get the feeling this film's gonna be just as much of a mess as the first one.

If it was just Paradise Lost, the average Joe wouldn't know that it's related to Prometheus. I can see the reasoning behind it. They should have done the same thing with the first movie.

Yeah but that's no difference to the average joe not knowing Prometheus was related to Alien. I never believed this movie was ever going to be called 'Prometheus 2', I fully expected it to just be 'Paradise'. But putting the Alien moniker in there seems contrived, considering how endlessly Scott and co have insisted this its its own franchise.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a Fox enforced thing after Blomkamp's film was approved.
