In one of the previews it mentions that tailing the Alien was the best way to elude it. So maybe the tail is that long for gameplay reasons. To hide an AI that never checks behind itself.  ::)

I think I may have mentioned it before but it bothers me that the tail is so overly long. You can't even see the end of it in this pic:

Agreed, that tail looks ridiculous. Are there any other screenshots that corroborates this? Maybe this was an early WIP?

I really like the actress they motion capped for Amanda Ripley. She reminds me of a Ripley offspring.

Hip's too broad, butt's too big. (unless she inherited those from her father)
This is what Ripley offspring looks like:

Not literally just like Ripley, but I feel like I can see some Ripley in her.

"Like the movie does, it has a very fever dream or nightmare style atmosphere to it, and what it feels like to leave the game for a day and then come back to finish it, or play it again, it immediately felt like I was back into a recurring nightmare."

And just like that, I was completely sold.

Well at the least the Sevastopol will have different "themed" sections of the station - the crew quarters will look different than the more lab/med bay rooms and so on.  It would be great if they took this further and we got some green houses or something.
  6. acrediblesource
with that part of the video I like the commentary about needing to break the monotony of playing for hours in one locale and entering something different. (ie, Nostromo to planet side to derrelict corridors to derrelicts egg chamber)
I wouldn't be entirely bummed if they negated this effect in return for a cohesive ship side story but I would actually love to see their take on the derrelict ship if they ever get to the point of going on Lv426 knowing that Ripley had stopped there.

They've already got Amanda Ripley in there which is not exactly a small reference.

It is a small reference.  She's a character who has only been glimpsed at for a few seconds in a photograph in the special edition version of the film, and is pretty unknown to the "general consumer."  Not to mention Aliens influence is further negated in that the devs said what we saw in the special edition version of Aliens may not necessarily be the character's same fate (that we the players, shouldn't be so sure that Amanda survives this game because the photo we see in Aliens could be a corporate coverup etc, etc).  Not so much Aliens influence as all small reference to a name we've heard before.
  8. robbritton
The Alien is different in every film it appears in, why not this one? It's a ten foot one with animal legs and a super long tail. Why not? As long as it works in motion in game, and doesn't keep getting it caught in doors or anything, I'll not lose any sleep over it.
  9. MrSpaceJockey
Don't think it's turning into a queen; CA seems to be keeping references to the other films as small as possible and the proportions would still be off tail/leg-wise if that's all we're going on for the theory.

I think it's just artistic license.  But that tail is crazy.  Like the alien-picking-up-the-predator-with-its-super-long-tail-in-AvP crazy.
  10. Adam802
the way I see it, the xenomorph species can come in different shapes/sizes just like humans can.  Its easy to believe that a different alien could have different legs or a longer tail or be slightly taller...
  11. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔈𝔦𝔤𝔥𝔱𝔥 𝔓𝔞𝔰𝔰𝔢𝔫𝔤𝔢𝔯
Wow yes, I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out. Lots of people have been up-in-arms about the legs but this is even more bizarre.

The original Alien costume tail also drags on the floor a bit but it is correctly proportioned to the rest of its body:
    https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fd1oi7t5trwfj5d.cloudfront.net%2F9c%2F3b7760b9a911e19f68123138165f92%2Ffile%2FAlien.jpg&hash=6c780d3665022acf4e3c108d800f54366cdf3071

What if this alien was in the beginning stages of morphing into a queen? Could it explain the legs, hunched over posture, large size and excessively long tail?

It's from the latest demo but you can notice it in some of the gameplay videos where Amanda just sees the Alien pass by. All you see is the tail dragging around which I guess is the effect they were trying to achieve by making it so long. Didn't notice it was THIS long before tho. Neither did it look that long in earlier screenshots:

She might've burst there but the body could've been arranged in a more 'comfortable' position after death.  But then her eyes seem to be open.

Pretty silly oversight, if that's the case.

(Assuming of course it's in the final game).
  15. MrSpaceJockey
Oops, glossed over it.  Gotta say its kind of weird for the body to lying in that specific position after a chestbursting, even though the blood pattern would indicate it happened right there.  Weird.  But I'm gonna assume that's a oversight on their part.
  16. MrSpaceJockey
I don't think those are chestburster corpses.  One of the possible deaths for the player is to have the alien stab you through the chest from behind with it's tail.  It almost definitely did that to some Sevastopol residents as well.
  17. PsyKore
Hmm. I'm really curious how they're gonna explain all the chestburst corpses then. Unless CA plan to pull a similar stunt to Amnesia and have us dodging multiple Aliens at the end of the game. CA might not want to tell us that.

Seems to be a few bodies like that.  Some you could argue were victims of tail transfixings - but not that one with all the blood on the overhead.

Yep with all the blood splattered upwards and outwards I find it hard to imagine what else it could have been, the only thing which goes against this is that CA have said again and again it's all about being stalked by ONE Alien. Then again perhaps they just don't want to give the game away.

Maybe they meant one Alien - at a time.  You manage to off the Alien, only to find out it's not the only one.  If that's the case they're spoiling the surprise a bit.

Is it possible one adult Alien is there (the one we play against) while the other Aliens are still yet to grow to adult stage? I'm not sure how long the time was in the movie between chestburster stage and adult stage, but it's possible this game could use a threat of infestation as a plot device.

In the Twich video you can spot acid blood with smoke in the floor when the random guys shoot at him,  so the gun fight make some kind of damage to him after all.

About this game having a TLOU narrative...wtf?! Dead Space has this "go to x to take y" and its an awesome game. Isolation its gonna have his own history, no need to be a narrative efford like TLOU

great:) i'll eat my words then

Aliens have had handgun bullets bounce off them before in Aliens.

i dont think the xeno is bulletproof. even Vasquez could kill one with a pistol and im not talking about killing the alien right now but having so much gunfights with the alien just generates too much question. should be one or two groups trough out the whole game who have weapons and the alien shouldnt run at them directly rather than outsmart them, avoiding the gunfire. or at least make it looks its hurt and bleed but still standing after a few shots then run away to heal, just silly to have a bulletproof xeno in a next gen game with bullets bouncing off thats it. a bit off lazy work here from CA

I dont really mind the guys with guns firing a few rounds off at the Alien and it not really phasing it much. In the second film Gorman fires off a few rounds at an Aliens head and it didn't seem to phase it at all. Of course yes, Vasquez kills an Alien with the hand gun, but it was 8 inches from her and she unloaded an entire clip into its face. I would like to see a little acid damage from the hand gun bullets though, something along those lines.

One of the reviews I watched on youtube had a guy saying he had logged 6 hours playing the demo.

His complaints were the missions "Go to X and collect A", and the humans, as Amanda running is enough to make the Alien come get you while other people brazenly walk around, shout at you and fire guns.

I think in the end we will get a 7/10 game here. Yes they poured a lot of love of Alien into this game, but going around collecting key cards is not a story driven game. When in TLOU did you ever have to go and collect something to unlock a door?

I wish they would just ditch those gameplay elements and try to focus on a narrative. However I hold a lot of hope and I know Al and the team are doing their best so lets see how it ends up.
  24. Seegson
Androids seems to be bulletproof (perhaps headshoot could work)...but the Alien (in this game)...its bulletproof and we know that a long time ago.

In TLOU enemies cant see Ellie if you are using Joel, here if humans shoot at you the Alien ignores the sound, but if you shoot thats means xeno-show...sometimes as a developer you have to put some tricks. The Alien its bulleproof to avoid the "i shoot it - game over"

Ok, IGN make a new gameplay video (same area). This time 2 of the 3 guys run away after the Alien kill the first...and Amanda plays "mouse and cat" with the Alien in the Android storage (so its not a "safe" area...if there is one)

and why all those guys stand in the open lol?

I found this odd too. Amanda's the only person (the player) watching her own ass, hiding and being quiet, while everyone else seems to be just hanging out in the open like a bunch of red shirts. None of the human AI seem to be very paranoid considering the circumstances. I also don't like how some people don't try and run away from the Alien but instead just stand there and fire like twits while their friend gets killed.

ok no shotgun. but even the pistols makes it strange for me, the guy clearly shots the Alien 2-3 times while it kills his partner, and ...thats just akward that it didnt even hurt. and why all those guys stand in the open lol?

A shootgun? did i miss something? I have spotted 2 gun fights : the one with the 3 guys when amanda use the noise maker, and people shooting an alien from the distance at some kind of "factory" room...but they all use pistols and stuff

I remember sometime last year when details were slowly emerging about this game that it would be one alien for most of the game. Later as you progressed, however, more would show up.
