I'll come back in a day or so and see what lovely lesson u have for us all. It's a game. It's a video game... It's a f**king game.

I'm glad I only have a few minutes to dick around with dorks like you because I have an actual family to spend time with instead of trolling the forums trying to let everyone know what a big ALIEN E-PENIS I have.

God damn dork! Ugh. Your kind annoy the hell out of me!

Now, back on topic... This game is going to be awesome.

    Ok, I'm done posting. :)

See, fanboys, it's not that hard to just shut the f**k up and relax.

hahaha... I don't want to get on anyones bad side, but you kinda walked right into this one SM :)

    "Definite"

Everyone can make mistakes, it is forgivable... infact I'm sure I am making some right now. The point was taken, the message has hit it's target... moving on!

Anyway, in an effort to return this to what it should be, I was neither impressed nor disappointed with what was seen at E3. Nothing new, but then again I wasn't expecting much. I figure we will go through another dry spell for a few weeks since we got the official finalised Collectors Edition news last week.

I really REALLY want to play this game... February is an eternity away *gutted* :'(

*EDIT* ^^ There we go!!! Thanks ikarop!!!

Right - 'snivelling' has two Ls and there should be a comma after fairy.

Not sure 'ass-clown' is hyphenated, but I'll let it slide this time.

    Definate signs of improvement.

    >:( Which, yeah, that's another thing i'm gonna bitch about now. Why can't these ALIEN games ever, ever just give me an old school shotgun? It's always gotta be a science fictiony shotgun. Save Alien Trilogy, not one of them has gotten the shotguns to look or feel like Michael Biehn's Ithaca. Always bugged me to Hell in AVP2. Had to reskin it to try and make it look right. Still, it wasn't the same.  :(

There is an old school shotgun similar to the Itacha 37 Stakeout (if not the same shotgun) in the g4tv interview and gameplay vid.

Holy shit! Are you people kidding yourselves? Anyone worth their salt that loves this franchise is in their 30s or older... Why are grown adults crying over a red dot? If the developers made it that way, suck it up, or just don't buy it! Lol.

Sorry to sound like a dick, to those who are just well meaning folks who want to contribute to the conversation. My frustration is geared toward the FANBOY sect so irritatingly blinded by the fact that their griping means jack shit to anybody.

Here we are in 2012 about to receive a game based on events following one of our most beloved childhood memories, packed with xenomorphs, facehuggers, recreated movie sets... And even bits from the original ALIEN... And the hot button topic is... A RED DOT in MP...

Look.. If you want tension go shark diving, or crocodile wrestling... But don't cry like pantywaists because you aren't going to be able to immerse yourself in sheer terror in a world contained on a television screen. Immersion is great, but any real ALIENS fan isn't going to play this game to feel tension.. They are going to play it to feel like Vasquez.

    So just relax you sissies.

    THAAANK YOU.

Stiff shit.  You have a gun and something to tell you where something is coming from from about 30m away.  Anyone in your squad should be 'tuned out' like they were in Aliens.  Anyone not in your squad and therefore not 'tuned out' (like Newt) is fair game.

Why do you need to know if it's friend or foe "right away"?
Because that split second could literally be the difference between you being prepared for an attack, and getting ambushed by something you thought might have been friendly and wasn't.

Shit, we saw it happen in 'Aliens' - the Marines asking back and forth if the movement they were seeing was them or not was valuable seconds they could have been using to respond to a (potential) threat.

Because the Xeno's are fast and if you hear that beeping it's within range to attack you. And this is a squad game too; If you see a red dot zooming towards someone on your team, you should warn him. If you're sitting there with your gun unready and a bunch of white dots around you, the enemy player will just drop down on you and kill you.
  10. Cap. Fitzgerald
All I know is, the red dots make the gameplay better, because as someone said  it isn't part of the hud.
If you're going to expose yourself by pulling it out and lowering your weapon, you have to be able to see if its a friend or a foe right away.
People want them to make a good game, but the second there start to be sacrifices in accuracy for the sake of gameplay, people cry out in anger. It's dumb.

The tracker would seem to scan in all directions as seen in the hive when Hudson is spinning around and there's movement in every direction.  Wouldn't be much good if it didn't detect something sneaking up on you.

IIRC the people using the motion trackers were always in the front, and since the tracker only tracks from the front it would make sense that the tracker wouldn't pick them up, no?

"Apone.  Where are your people?  Anybody in D block?"

"There's something.  It's inside the complex."
    "You're just reading me."

Those scenes do seem to indicate that there are possible false readings on the motion trackers as Hudson corrects Vasquez "No it's reading right. Look!"  The Motion Trackers weren't going off all the time when the marines were moving around in the labs, so there must be some method of filtering. I think I heard the marines have identifier chips that prevent them from being detected. That might be from the Colonial Marine technical manual so take that as you will.

Obviously they must have a way of tuning friendlies out.  Maybe it's by isolating the marines PDTs (assuming they have PDTs).  However those two bits of dialogue show that the system is flawed otherwise the questions wouldn't be asked.

I don't understand the hooplah over the red dots. It would be a hell of a lot more irritating and ultimately detracting from the gameplay if they made the dots the same color.

I commend you on responding to my point though  ;) Constant authenticity and rabid fanboyism=/=a good game.

So basically you're saying AvP 1 and AvP 2 weren't good games because the tracker lacked a red dot then, at least using the same logic turned around.  The idea behind the tracker is the TENSION of the blips, not a slightly lower version of a wallhack.  It has little to do with fanboyism and more to do with the gameplay (you know, the initial TENSION followed by the ACTION).  With being able to tell the difference between friend and foe using the tracker it completely negates the stealth advantage of the Xenos.  There's a pretty big difference between knowing that SOMETHING is there and knowing WHAT is there.  Gameplay wise, of course.  Might as well add a freaking minimap that shows everything ala CoD or BF3 while you're at it.

Here's the thing. The motion tracker isn't a part of the HUD. So if it isn't immediately clear who is friend and who is foe (which I'm pretty sure they could differentiate in the film) no one would ever use the motion tracker. It would be useless. Allowing people to see where their friends and enemies are also increases the chances that the motion tracker mechanic will be used.

The problem with having them both is that it right away needs to be clear who the foe is and who the enemy is. I don't know what variations they playtested, but I could see players confusing a blue dot for a friendly, partly do to the fact that every other shooter has the enemy color set to red and the friendly set to a lighter color.

I do hope they allow you to personalize it, but I can't blame them for tweaking it to make sure newcomers are able to jump in and immediately have fun.

LOL amen bro!!!! Some of these guys are going to the extreme I want to slap their heads real hard in case the bully in HS didn't do it right. For those who want ACCURASY like in the movies, have you thought of the idea that we get red dots to balance the advantage the "real" marines had in the movie which was "talk to each other" so they knew that the approaching "blue" dot was them and not something else. All this bitchin and they havnt even played the damn thing...

Fans are awesome, I am a hard core fan to the death, but some of them get so freakin annoying they need to go meet a girl and experience sex so they ease up on their demands. Now then, there is always the option YOU guys that complain so much can develop your own game.

There's still a chance to mod the texture or material containing the red dot; knowing it's Unreal Engine and cooked content can still be extracted. Though speculation won't work with this; we will have to find out. If it's a texture, or few, it is most likely possible. If the colour is a RGB constant inside a material the probability decreases.

    Hello Randy,

You are treating this as canon, I'll see what u eventually come up with and decide after that. At the moment your game looks alright, but I don't see anything new there. I hope you can give the actual gameplay some proper oomph and not descend to the same achiement based grinding and unlocking. Don't imitate, LEAD! Make a good game and THEN I'll buy your collector's edition. You are clearly a pushy salesman but can you make a game Cameron would be proud of?
