We're STILL arguing over whether or not the Engineer is the SJ?  Really?  Well, to the NOT SPACE JOCKEY folks, PROMETHEUS IS NOT "ALIEN".  Engineer is now proportionally smaller, move on.  Less than a month now, can't wait!

This size of the jockeys and/or the explaining of them discussion is ridiculous. I'm so glad I'm nowhere near that hung up on nitpicked details and pre-conceived notions.

After a while Vickers...this discussion is read as tedious nitpicking, only because IT'S GONE ON FOR SO LONG....:)

I'm no expert...I did attend film school if that means anything (which it doesn't) and I just don't see what you're seeing. Obviously this is your opinion and you have the right to have it. To me, your comment reads as a bit insulting to Ridley I suppose, because we know that even his films that misfire have a high quality of care given to their aesthetic. Leveling a term like 'cheap' just doesn't seem respectful....but carry on. You have every right to your opinion of course. Just don't be surprised if it ends up offending or upsetting some people.

Don't read too much into it.  I was referring to a shot that looks cheap.  I didn't say Prometheus looks cheap and I know Ridley Scott is a legend.  But he too can make bad judgement, let's not forget that.  I'm not in any way disrespecting Ridley Scott.  I'm merely talking about what I see.  Like I said, most of what I've seen looks fantastic but there are concerns.

And the only reason this discussion has gone on for so long is because we're all offering our views.  We're allowed to, aren't we?  If somebody misreads what I say, I am going to reply and reword what I'm trying to get at.

Jesus Christ there's no pleasing you people.

There is.  The original shots looked just fine (the ship flying by, Shaw blown away by storm, space jockey, derelict landing/crashing).  This is what happens when people don't know when to stop adding and working on something.

you need to understand that this movie is filmed in 3d, the cgi is done to compliment the 3d aspect of the film. if it would have been a normal 2d film shot on regular film not with digital camera, the movie would have had a different feel, different depth. it wouldn't have looked this sharp, and the cgi would have looked a little bit different.
it sucks but that's the way things work and why cgi in 3d films look kinda wack when you see a 2d normal presentation

The CGI should in no way interfere with the 3D aspect (which comes from the cameras and sets themselves, not the CGI).

Look, I'm not trying to get into a flame war here.  I'm obviously looking forward to Prometheus and it's still my most anticipated film this year.

I'm simply saying that some of the CGI changes/additions look off to me.  That colour grading and added CGI in the jockey shot - dare I say it - looks cheap and the kind of quality I would expect from something like Power Rangers.  I know a lot of people had a problem with the original shot before but that had more to do with the size of the jockey than the colour scheme and lack of digital effects.  Then you have the name of the ship they added in, in the latest TV spot, that looks like something somebody added in after discovering Adobe After Effects.  I'm not going to get into all the shots that were changed because you get the idea.

Also, not everybody has 3D plasma TVs at home.  Hypothetically speaking, let's say the CGI was being done for the 3D aspect... if the film can't look good in 2D, how is it going to hold up on DVD and Blu-Ray?

I know I'm not the first person to bring this up and I won't be the last but that's what forums are for right?  To discuss these things.

I still think Prometheus is going to be a quality film.  At this stage it's only Logan Marshall-Green and the final results regarding the CGI that's worrying me.

That scene still looks laughably bad though.

    You cant polish a turd.

    Youre totally right !
In fact youve completely convinced me that I definitely wont be seeing Prometheus under any circumstance

I couldnt stop laughing throughout the entire launch trailer since it all looks so 'laughable' and oh yes.........'bad'

When is your next movie coming out ?

Can I buy an advance ticket ?
Its patently clear that youre a genius and a visionary, unlike Ridley Scott who has no idea at all, and does nothing but sit on his ass all day 'polishing turds'

(also can i have your autograph..?....please ?!!..........i'll pay triple the normal fee)

This is the problem with showing work that's still in process. Just because we think it's done, doesn't mean the artist does. I like the shot of the Orrey hologram incorporated with the Jockey. It's beautiful and mysterious.

Unfortunately this isn't our vision, this is Ridley Scott's vision. He wants what he wants. I'd rather him do what his artistic voice tells him then please us,or one or two of the fans who judge an entire work from seconds of footage. Who knows, maybe I'll end up hating the aesthetic...if I do, it will be after seeing the entire canvass, and not just the edges of it.

Of course this is his vision.  And this is my opinion.  With him coming from a history of using practical effects and having things look as real as possible, this film is using an awful lot of CGI.  I've got no problems with the story and with all the other elements but when people keep adding, keep adding, keep adding, what do you get?  A scene that has been digitally altered and added to so many times that it eventually stops looking real and starts looking like a video game cutscene.  Subtlety is the key.  A lot of the shots looked amazing before and it just makes no sense to keep f**king around with them.  Besides, the reason they release trailers is so that we can make our mind up on how a film looks.  Of course we don't know what all the other footage looks like but based on what I've seen already, a lot of shots have been changed.

That's funny.  I didn't know having an opinion meant one needs to grow up.  And clearly I'm not the one who needs to grow up.

I don't mean to be a party pooper and I'm happy about the new footage but every single time a new trailer or TV spot gets released, I see more CGI additions.  This is worrying.  Yes, yes, I know the story is more important but why mess with a good thing?

90% of the CGI I've seen so far looks fantastic but they've already changed the derelict, they've added more storm particles to the scene where Shaw(?) gets blown away to the point where some of the beautiful production design is masked by the particles, they've added dodgy looking CGI around the Space Jockey and the colour grading is terrible and another new addition is at the start of the TV spot where you see "Prometheus" added to the side of the ship... rather horribly, I might add.  It looks like a floating font.

I posted this on another forum, but nobody seemed to think it was odd.  I'll try it out on you people.

    1) On April 28th we have a leaked call sheet that specifically gives away the information that David is decapitated.
    2) Interestingly enough, FOX has not not had the site pull the call sheet.  It's still available at the source
    3) Two days later we get a new TV spot with a scene showing the Engineer by the chair, and a decapitated David on the floor.
    4) You would not be able to pick this out in real time viewing.  Only in a hi res screencap can you see this detail.

I'm wondering if we are being targetted with misinformation to throw us off the scent of what really happens in the movie?  Putting fake easter eggs in these scenes that only people who pour over the trailers frame-by-frame would be able to find.

Interesting theory, and looking at it again I think you may be right. Something did strike me as not quite right about this image, something in the way the scene is lit that's different from many other shots of this room, so could this be just another production still rather than any scene to throw people off guard....very curious!

When Shaw is jumping inside the Juggernaut Hangar she doesnt have a bag.
This is not Shaw's bag. Someone has left it there before she arrives.
I think i do see a suit, i'm not sure tho if it's a body or an empty suit...
I don't see any head either...
We need those tv spots in 1080p to set this once and for all :)

So no reaction to the montage from 2 quasi identical shots where i added David kneeling near the supposed Engineer?

I'm calling BS on that call sheet. FAKE!

I think thats Shaw lying there unconscious, not David.

The gold Space Handbag (light source?) is in exactly the same position on the set as the image of Shaw I posted earlier in this thread. Its clear to me that there are two separate scenes here: one where David activates the Engineer's Orrery and has fun 'playing God', the other is Elizabeth Shaw returning to the Orrery, alone, whereupon she witnesses the Engineer emerging from his sarcophagus! It would be a far more poignant moment for Elizabeth Shaw to come face to face with her 'maker' and 'lifetime idol' only to be cast aside like an unwanted doll.

Of course this is David, the severed head even looks like him, plus we already know he visits this room more than once.

If you look closely at the second shot, you will see that there is a human bag near the stairs that lead the the pilot chair. No bag around when David is kneeling on the console.
The plateform is also missing those small consoles like things between sarcophagis so this not at all the same scene...

    https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg19.imageshack.us%2Fimg19%2F3217%2Fdavidvsengineer.jpg&hash=234781e4890d2effa66e19b8034fe61132f96ce7

    The angles are almost identical.
David kneeling shot is higher hence making him look a bit smaller.
The Engineer watching shot is a lower angle should make him look a bit bigger.
Both shots are as wide so i think it's a very good comparaison photo.
From the running holograms you can see that David is clearly smaller than a real Engineer.
Here i can clearly see that David is not at all dwarfed by the supposed Engineer ;)

Jockeys/enginners aren't supposed to be superhuge(HULK like), but a slightly bigger and taller than humans, I think something similar like Predators, cca. 2.16 meters.
