First Look at Lance Henriksen In Aliens Colonial Marines

The first image showing Lance Henriksen’s likeness for the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines videogame has been revealed in a recent studio visit to Gearbox. Last June Randy Pitchford revealed the name of one of the characters that the actor will be portraying in the game:

The synthetics manufactured by Weyland-Yutani all look the same, and so Lance [Henriksen] is involved. There’s a synthetic named Rook that has the same likeness as Lance, and the same voice. He’s Bishop from the movie.” Gearbox’s CEO said.

Most recently Mikey Neumann stated the following: “You do encounter a Bishop although his role is very different [than in the USS Sulaco] because there’s 400 people on the Sephora.” Be sure to check out the full video of the visit after the jump. You can find even more content here on the forums.

You could take the ending of 'Alien3' to mean Michael Bishop was a W-Y employee, or perhaps that W-Y just paid him a lot of money to be there. He seemed real passionate about acquiring Ripley's queen for W-Y, moreso than you'd expect someone who works for an unaffiliated company to be.
Which makes it pretty clear that they're affiliated, at the very least. I always assumed Hyperdyne was a sub-holding of WY, either acquired at some point, or founded internally to give their robotics division a distinctive brand.

We really don't know who made Bishop.  He could very well be a WY droid.

Or Bishop and Rook may be a sideline of special military variants for support role androids that go under Chess naming conventions, like Knight, Pawn, King dependent on their role?

GBX did say that Rook's role on the Sephora was very different to that of Bishops in ALIENS, so perhaps he is a variant built for a slightly different task?

I wonder what sort of support role an android that goes under the name 'Queen' would have.

And iPhone is still an iPhone though - not matter what the serial number is.

Similarly this seems to be followed with David model androids - i.e they're all called David.  At least as far as we can tell so far.

I don't know why a Bishop model would be called Rook.  I woulda thought calling it Bishop would tie it even closer to Aliens.  And Bishop models could be standard issue for Conestoga class ships.

Well different manufacturers often have different naming conventions.

And comparing with mobile phones shows there isnt that much consistency in product naming. Take Motorola for example they have different names for the exact same phone based on what country they're sold in. Then there's phones like the Defy and Defy+, which are the exact same phone on the outside, but on the inside the Defy+ has some major software and hardware upgrades.

I'm not gonna touch A3's Bishop 2, but Cameron established Ash as a "Hyperdyne 120/A2" according to Burke. Not sure what model Bishop was, other than its implied that he is a more advanced Hyperdyne.

And David7 is Weyland Corp, so they are different manufacturers. Also David's 1 through 7 do have a name change, but only the numeric part. I wonder if the earlier models looked alike?

    Or...

Closely related models may share similar aesthetic characteristics. Perhaps the Bishop face was a popular aesthetic, so was carried over into next generation models, which is what Rook is. Or Bishop and Rook may be a sideline of special military variants for support role androids that go under Chess naming conventions, like Knight, Pawn, King dependent on their role?

Personally though, until now, I just always figured Bishop to be his given name that his co-workers use to converse with him. Not his model name.

Really, either ACM's or Damon Lindelof's naming conventions work.

if this is a Bishop android model then why it's called rook, and not Bishop
It's the same model as Bishop (the precise wording Ripley actually uses in Alien 3), but that doesn't necessarily mean that 'Bishop' is the name of that entire model series. I'd be more inclined to think they have an official designation, which is most likely a product code (like the one Bishop rattles off for Ash), with each major revision being given a more memorable user name. Rook could simply be the iPhone 4S to Bishop's iPhone 4, or vice versa.

There are so many reasons why the android is called Rook and not Bishop.

I bet anything that if they were calling the android Bishop, we would have people complaining that we already had a Bishop android.

    They're different colours.

    There's over 8 million David 1-7 synthetics.

And yet there's a Bishop model, that's oddly named Rook?

(Unless Rook is a first name and it's surname is Bishop.)
According to the tech manual, Bishop was "unique". Perhaps he had different programming or whatever, and his creator (Michael Bishop) differentiated him by naming him Bishop. Meanwhile, the other "ordinary" ones are Rook or whatever.

Who knows? Maybe they are trying to avoid confusion between the two different characters.

I think the subtle reference to chess will help add a little extra depth to the story. Time will tell.

400 marines on the sulaco!  ;D That is a sizable force.

:o i was shocked too....i hope its  not just another reason to got marines who pops out from nowhere just to kill them off for the show ...honestly i always hated these in avp games....there were no actual crew...in avp 2 we started with 2 dropship with around 10-15 marines and yet i counted at leas 80 dead marines....and in avp 3...wow what a F...we were going down with one dropship with 1 battallion and yet at least 50 dead marines  in the story, and we always got the scene "hey Wilkinson is that you?" ...i mean who the F is that guy...he has an important role? As soon you start thinking that he got  killled....FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUU****K THIS,what i want is real story with characters who i can  fall in love with because they characteristics and feel so said when they die to wanna exterminate the whole alien race by myself, got it?
Intresting Capcom could do that in every survival horror games. And even the game Extermination were well build up.

you got 1 year, make it count

I'm pretty sure there were two platoons of Marines in Aliens vs Predator 2.  There was a whole nother group that didn't immediately drop with Harrison and his squad.  They are the guys getting slaughtered and overrun by the preds when you go back to the POC as Harrison.

There would be plenty of Marines in AvP3 as a battalion is a headquarters company and two or more infantry companies/artillery batteries etc.  Each company has three or four platoons. That quickly amounts to a shitload of people, and is also more realistic than what we saw in Aliens.

I dunno why you'd have a synthetic that's identical to a Bishop android - and call it (groan inducing reference aside) "Rook".  Why not simply call it "Bishop'?

Oops, haha! Thanks for clearing that up ikarop.
I appreciate all the effort you put in here digging up this stuff for us to read and watch.

It would've been much more feasible to just bring Bishop back for A:CM than it is to bring back Hadley's Hope.  Bishop even said that he could be rebuilt before Ripley shut him down in Alien3.  If GBX really wanted Bishop, they could've just wrote him into the story...and they could've made it make sense too.

    Again, Rook is not Bishop.

    Yes, he is.

"He's Bishop from the movie." I think ikarop is referring to Lance (the actor) being "bishop" from the movie. Rook will have the same likeness and voice. The remains of Bishop (his lower half) will be in the game, also.
The quote is not even mine! That's from Gearbox CEO's himself and as you said I'm sure he's referring to Lance being Bishop from the movie. And I think you're referring to this:

uumm, those toy figurines based on ridiculous alien concepts at "6:30"..., this reminds me what one member of the forum, Chris$$, said a couple of days ago about one of the new aliens; he said he thought that was a spider alien, and at first I preferred to think he was on drugs or something worst. Well, after seeing that at "6:30" I'm seriously starting to reconsider If Chris$$ was actually drunk, and see those damn crap alien concepts being tried in ACM for the first time.

Hell, isn't the crusher the first example of this?

Heh that threw me off and I'm British, when I was staying over there it was the least cowboy centric place I've been to compared to say Austin.
