USA Today have revealed a new Prometheus production still in their ‘Movies to look out for in 2012’ feature. This time, it’s a picture of Noomi Rapace’s character Shaw holding her helmet in the derelict spacecraft.
Thanks to RoaryUK and Alien Prequel News for the news.
Looks like mass effect suits
Noomi Rapace Looks freaking beautiful there
[/quote]
It does look like mass effect. Ridley scott is going for a more tighter fit with the suits than last time. On alien the suits were a little baggy. I think noomi rapace is very attractive. She has beautiful legs, and I mean beautiful. Swedish women (like russian women) are beautiful. It looks like she's holding a helmet. The yellow glare from the interior of the helmet is awesome. I loved the suits from alien. I always thought they looked better than real astronaut suits. I could be wrong but the prometheus suits look like they're designed for combat. The whole design of the suits scream awesome. I'll definitely be doing more research on these suits.
You take that back
The suits are very cool, though.

yep
The behind the scenes shot of the door opening and blasting gas suggests that there is a breathable atmosphere, as in that shot and the promo stills there are humans without helmets on. This new still may not reflect what happens in the film, but there are other shots that show helmet-less spacemen.

This is absolutely correct. With NASA EVA space suits (operating in pure vacuum) the internal suit atmospheric pressure is around 5 psiA (normal sea level pressure is 14.7 psiA), and 100% pure oxygen. Whatever the movement of the "suit", the aim is to maintain a constan volume. If the external pressure is NOT vaccuum, but rather has some type of atmosphere (not necessarily breathable), then there will be some external pressure...and the EVA space suit does not necessarily have to be pressurized to the same relative pressure. In onther words, it the planet has an atmosphere, and the space suit is not working against a "pure" vacuum, then the internal pressure of the suit can remain higher.
What that means, is that the EVA suit (in such an evironment), does not necessarily have to be supplied with an "artificial" positive pressure. This makes it much easier for the EVA suit to be designed around a "mechanical pressure" rather than using internal pressurization. The "Sci-Fi" nomenclature for such a suit is a "skin suit", which uses some type of elastic pressure to maintain a more or less "constant" pressure against the astronuats skin. There are prototypes that are actually in development by NASA at this very moment, but research is still ongoing, and is not by all means practical in true vacuum, at this current point in time...although, who knows what the future will bring. Nevertheless, it is is quite apparent from existing data and research, that a "skin-suit" spacesuit using mechanical pressure would definitely be feasible, in an enviornment that has some type of atmosphere (exerting a given pressure).
This is a rather long explanation of how the current Prometheus screenshots showing a "skin-suit" type of environmental "EVA" suit is absolutley scientifically plausible, presuming the fact that that they are on a planet/planetoid/moon that has a substantial atomsphere (although not necessarily breathable). Note that this explanation only deals with the partial pressure requirements for humans to function...I am "assuming" that any advance "skin-suit" will have the necessary automatic temperature regulation and built-in radiation attenuation to keep the astronaut protected.
Space-suits are, for the moment, bulky because there's a lot of shit in them. They have to be pressurized, they have to maintain temperature, etc. If the planet they're on doesn't have too dense or thin an atmosphere and has reasonable temperatures, all they need to do is protect themselves from the elements and supply their own air.
Think above-ground SCUBA suits, not space suits.
They don't bother me really. Its a space suit.....
So do I. Sooo dooo I...
I agree. Although it's hardly the sort of thing that could potentially ruin the film, it's an irritating design choice in my opinion. Not just because it's not to my liking stylistically but because it kind of breaks continuity with Alien.
Also, as much as I admire Neville Page's monster design for Cloverfield, he seems to be a one (or two) trick pony...
"What's that, you need a monster design for Star Trek? Sure, here's a recycle of Clover."
"Hmm, a monster design for Super 8? I've got it! We'll shrink Clover down."
"Oh, you want me to design some space suits and a visor for Prometheus? No problem, I've got some left over concepts from TRON: Legacy."
Well its not functional if its bulky is it?
Totally, too flashy. I don't give a shit if these sleek fashionable space suits and matching Chanel purses are a reality today, I like the bulky, functional look.
Since I posted a bunch of Charlize Theron pics...I would be remiss, indeed, in my duties if I didn't give equal time to the breathtaking Ms. Kate Beckinsale:

Indeed, she is one for the ages.
Glad someone understands what I was getting at, yes.
To me, it's like the difference between fashion and style.
Rose McGowan's another one. Can take on some really superficial roles, but has a very unique visual aesthetic.
Well you won't get any argument out of me there. While I think Charlize Theron is ultra hot, Kate Beckinsale is a classic beauty...timeless, kind of like Grace Kelly, or Ingrid Bergman.
And there's nothing wrong with the class of 'generic attractive female'.
I'm just saying that, physically, she's never struck me as having a look which seems unique. Something which strikes me as something only she has. Someone like Juliet Landau or Kate Beckinsale has that quality of having a look you can term as iconic - something uniquely them I can't say I've seen on another actress.
I guess a sort of... Muse-like quality? Something you can't replace by just putting anyone else in the same photographic pose. That's someone I'd be wowed by. I just haven't seen it in CT - and this is totally a personal opinion. Maybe it's the artist in me.
Acting skill's different. I haven't seen enough things CT has been in to judge that.
I am assuming that it's simply another suit. Fassbender, Holloway, probably retain their promo suits. I'm guessing the ampule room sequence they use the all-blue one. This later, towards the end, maybe this is like a emergency suit, which is why it is smaller and lighter, and why Theron uses it in a jiffy.
EDIT: And there is even a HEAVIER looking suit with the flamethrower seen in the teaser. And the Nostromo suits did have colors, it was just hard to see in the planet's atmosphere. They weren't repainted or anything.
I'm guessing that the suit has gone through a redesign at some point and the final movie is going to use the non-coloured bulky version?
Being pedantic I know, but Lambert's suit was blue and Dallas was pink.
Watch some of Noomi's other films. She doesn't come across as glamourous very often.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh...'The Game of Theron's'...
Soon to be a mini-series on HBO*
[*Her Butt Onmyface]
I can't wait to see this movie!
LOL,
I was wrong....it was so wrong...I am so sorry
As far as cleansing your mind, just scroll up and study the pics of beautiful Charlize. Rinse and repeat until Cameron Diaz is washed from your mind.
Thanks for putting an image of Diaz playing Vickers in my noggin'...THANKS A LOT!!
...anyone got any brain-bleach?
What...a generic-female?
...also...
[bradpitt]"Whas in the BAAAAAAAGGG??"[/bradpitt]
** EDIT ** I posted this presuming you were speaking of Charlize, not Noomi..
I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and definitely respect your opinion, but damn, if this is what "generic" looks like, then sign my ass up for a WHOLE BUNCH OF GENERIC !!

Really? I don't.
http://theabyssgazes.blogspot.com/2010/03/teal-and-orange-hollywood-please-stop.html
I've genuinely never found her particularly attractive in anything. Always seemed a bit generic, looks-wise.
To each their own.
Hell YYEEESSS I knew Noomi Rapace reminded me of someone but couldn't think who it was.... cheers Darkoo
Hmm, I know what you mean but I really don't see it, how they could have known they were going to find a head, that to me is something they more than likely stumbled on. Mind you, it does raise the question was there SOMETHING they were expecting to find! Could they have known about the urns perhaps, maybe the star map also revealed what to look for, or are we just reading to much into a coincidence and the carrier was simply for their flash lights??
