Prometheus Filming in Spain?

Filming may have finished at Pinewood but it looks like Prometheus is now moving to Spain:

  • Filming will take place at Ciudad de la Luz, a big filming studio in Spain (Alicante).
  • The studio has been booked from August 22th to December 10th.
  • They will start building the sets next week, but filming won’t start until the last week of September (when Ridley arrives).
  • Guy Pearce and Fassbender will be doing the scenes for now, Theron may be there too.
  • They will be filming the scenes in a huge water tank, also in a local beach.
  • There will be a scene where a huge ship (they say yacht) is caught in a storm.
  • Near 250 people will be involved in the filming process, with a cost over 1 milllion Euros.

I heard a rumour the underwater scene being filmed in Spain might be linked to the first AvP, not to too difficult to guess what it would be then, but is there any truth in it, I don't have any links BTW this came word of mouth... anyone know???

You being serious?Come on give us all a break dude. That's nearly as bad as the rumour that Ripley was gonna make a cameo. Is there going to be any end to the crazy BS that seems to appear here every other day.

They won't delay the release. There is 9 months to go before the film is released. I would imagine the larger more effects heavy scenes are completed, and if what Scott said is true, and he's using very little CGI, then we don't have much to worry about.

Filming in Alicante has been delayed for 6 weeks until mid-November.  This has me worried:

That pic is from another movie set. Sadly nothing to do with Prometheus.
ikarop, can I get a citation on this?

And I want Colonel Hicks to email his FOX source asking if this whole Spain ordeal is even true.

I'm wondering why movie blogs aren't posting this Spain news either.  Maybe because it's fake?  I wish it really was, because that delay in filming could mean a.......delay in the release.
The picture dates from 2010. It's from a movie called "The Impossible".

In that article it's mentioned that:

    • Filming in Spain has been delayed 6 weeks.
    • Filming could have been delayed for 3 weeks but due to the schedule of the actors involved it has been further delayed.
    • The sets at Ciudad de la Luz are finished.
    • A change in the US Production schedule has caused the delay.
    • Scott will be filming some of the scenes in L.A. before moving production to Alicante

What intrigues me is that they're building this entire ship from the ground up.  If they wanted to film with a modern ship then they could have rented any yacht and start filming.  So this could hint at this ship being a Prometheus dropship or some other futuristic craft not of this time.

In that article they specifically say "nave" which is the common word for ship (spaceship) in Spanish. If it really was a yacht they would have said boat (or yacht). Later in the article they mention it's a 'vehicle'. IMO it's definitely not a modern ship.

The article also says they plan on hiring some background actors. I wonder what for.

The young chap who sits next to me at work is going back home to Allicante for the Bank Holiday weekend...He's a non-film fan so was not aware of Prometheus etc...but was apparently speaking to members of his family earlier in the week who had advised him that....a major film crew had rolled into town and were shooting a major motion picture....understandably its caused a bit of a buzz in the town. He said he will have a look at the weekend and see if anything is going on...

I'm still awed by the scope of this film and how real it all is from the size of the sets built to the number of real world locations. This is a true director. Scott justs blows people like lazy George Lucas out of the water. They're not even in the same league.

Ridley Scott's team is already working in the pit of the City of Light

British director Alicante will have extras for the prequel to "Alien"

"Prometheus," the latest film from Ridley Scott, British and prequel to the series "Alien" - has landed in Alicante. A dozen workers have begun work this week on the water pit to the studios of the City of Light to recreate the ship of the protagonists of the film, most notably Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender.

As anticipated ABC on Saturday, the director of "Blade Runner" will Alicante to shoot several scenes in the gap between 28 and 30 September, according to the complex. He will be accompanied by actors Guy Pearce and Michael Fassbender, Theron will not come rolling in Alicante. However, work will continue until December, to capture various levels of vehicle-resort in the pit.

According to some sources, "Prometheus" will employ about 250 people and has an economic impact of one million euros in the Community. In this regard it is noteworthy that the production company plans to hire several extra Alicante. Furthermore, in addition pit locations will be shot on a beach near the city of Alicante the studio by logistical issues.
    No subsidy

Sources City of Light noted that, unlike other major productions have been shot in the complex, Scott and his team arrive without grants from the Generalitat. The pit water-only in Europe has been more than enough for the visionary British filmmaker decided to move production from the studios at Pinewood, a regular scene of his shooting, to land in Alicante.

Scott tape, chronologically before the events of 'Alien: The eighth passenger, "tells how a group of scientists embarks on an intense journey which will test their mental and physical limits, and discover the answer to the ultimate mystery of life

Since 2005, City Light has received 58 productions that have entailed an expenditure in the Region of 174.24 million euros, which translates into over 3,000 contracts, 4,757 jobs, more than 54,000 extras, and about 150,000 overnight stays .

PEOPLE! People! Stop taking every goddamned word these people say so frakking literally. Fassbender saying he plays a 'butler' could mean so many things. A butler has many connotations, and he could have been being cynical, or a bit smart-ass with the comment. We don't know.

Gathering that because of the aforementioned 'butler' comment that Fassbender and Pearce are on a yacht on earth and David (Fassbender) is butlering around the deck is LUDICROUS. THere is so much misinformation around this film that I don't know if I believe anything, which is probably the way Ridley wants it.

    Deep breaths folks. Deep breaths.

The plot of 2010: The Year We Make Contact, sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, was partly about one of the Jupiter's moons, Europa.

    Spoiler
At the end of the movie, the Monolith has been revealed as alien device used for turning Jupiter into the star, thus accelerating the beginning of life on the Europa (chlorophyll has been found there earlier in the movie).

First of all, I was disappointed by the fact that we discover the space jockey ruins on Earth.  I was hoping them to be found on one of the other planets in our solar system.  The more Earth we have, the less this movie will feel like an Alien film.  The Alien films were all about outer space and otherworldly planets.  Depicting Earth detracts from that.
  15. zuzuki
there's gotta be earth scenes.this could happen at the beginning of the movie, before leaving on their exploration.i like it because it's plausible.the other comment it's just fantasy at this moment.and if it's talked a lot, then in a few weeks it will become a fact, and people will start building up on that a potential plot.that's all.

but like i said.anonymous users on the internet in a comment section on a blog.i'm starting to have fantasys of my own with a leaked script.oh well :(
  16. zuzuki
man i'm gonna be so sad if the space jockey we saw was just a suit.but i guess if they want to do human-jockey interraction in the movie,he has to be a little bit smaller.and didn't they want to cast a tall guy for the ,,engineer'' part?

a lot of speculation from anonymous users everywhere.comment sections suck.anyway i like this comment better

Fassbender has said that he plays a "butler". Last year, Vulture -which has so far has proven to be right on the money- reported that one of the parts is that of "an older businessman along for the ride".

My guess is Pearce is the businessman and Fassbender his android servant and there will be some scenes on the former's yacht, early in the story.

Someone over at Alienprequelnews has posted that he reckons that the scenes being filmed in Spain at a specialist water movie facility/ studio with Pierce and Fassbender are scenes of them on a newly terraformed world. Pierce is the Space Jockey , the Engineer and Fassbender the strange hybrid human, both standing on a beach at the birth of a world.
It got my mind thinking about some of what has become known such as the scenes being filmed in Iceland of the crashed human ship and there also being a SJ ship there ( possibly crashed ?. The two sets of footprints in that primordial gravel.
Scott has set the SJ is in a suit, possibly a deep pressure suit hence the size. Scott said he was researching this back when the project was announced .Does this mean Guy Pierce emerges like some Greek demi-god from the SJ suit???
I am only speculating as I am sure the poster over on Alienprequel news was based on what little we know and have seen. Also I might add I don't think I want that ending but I am beginning to think Scott may be thinking it will be a Planet of the Apes big reveal at the beginning of the Earth or something. Adam and Steve!

Still.  3-4 months is ridiculous.  It's like they want to spend their time their filming another whole movie.

I just hope it's 3 weeks like that other article said.

Question. If the films release date has been set to June-ish next year then why does this news of the studio being booked for around 4 months bother you so much????

You seem ot be getting worked up over the fact they are shooting scenes for this film and have booked a studio for 4 months. I honestly don't see any reason what so ever to even question why they are still filming or get confussed over it :-s

This also doesn't make sense because Lindelof clearly stated that there were only 3 weeks left of filming to go at the end of June.

As much as i want to use Lindelof as a valuable source he was only the screenplay writer for this film. Only Ridley and the producers will know the full schedual of shooting including any retakes that may crop up. Lindelof Job is done so he realy doesn't need to know much more about the shoot. The information from here onwards will prob not be from Ridley himself but from Lindelof contacts. Which may not be 100% filled in on the situation anyway

It sounds fishy to me as well. Specially after the wrap party comments. Some of the actors talking about the film as a past thing, etc...

Then again this article is directly quoting a councillor from the Spanish government, the source is a local news website which has no need to make up such detailed stories. Plus one of the biggest Spanish newspapers also reported the story.

Perhaps they are simply re-shooting some scenes and using a studio with a much larger water tank this time. In fact the report mentions that Theron's presence depends on how some previous scenes turn out. I guess this could be a hint.

That's what makes me think it could be some new stuff Fox gave Ridley the go-ahead for. Maybe he showed the suits a rough cut, and was all like "Yo, this movie's radical as is, but it could be 'woooaaaooo!' if you let me film these few extra bits. Now give me money." And the studio was all like "Yeah, okay. Just put that cigar out, this is a non-smoking screening room."

If this is true i just freaking came !  ::)

Quotebut Scott confirmed a few details. He explained: "I sat thinking about the franchise, which now has died... And I always thought, 'no one has ever asked... who the hell is the Space Jockey?' So it's written and I'm prepping it now." So it's about the big alien who was found dead in the chair in the spaceship in the first Alien. Ridley added that it takes place "way before" Alien
  23. ikarop
Maybe this alleged "yacht" is simply some other kind of ship. Something futuristic and meant for the water but not a yacht per se. Magellan would be a really nice name for that sort of ship. Just speculation on my part anyway.
