Further Details for 25 Years of Aliens

In additional to our previous coverage of the upcoming Leicester based Aliens convention, further details have now been released:

“Pay £13 on the Saturday and ask for an upgrade to an Annual Pass by signing a Giftaid form and get the second day free!
£5 for the ‘Alien Encounter’ – an ‘Alien War’ style live action experience

£15 per autograph.
Photo prices to be announced later but like autographs will be standard fare.

So… only £18 to attend on both days and take part in the Alien Encounter!
Or just pay £13 for both days if you’re not brave enough to enter the encounter.
And don’t forget, this is an annual pass meaning you could go back to the space centre again for the next twelve months.

By signing a Giftaid form the National Space Centre gets money back from the taxman because they are a charity. So good to know that all the money is going to good causes as opposed to a businessman’s back pocket (I’m lookin’ at you Charles-Bishop Weyland!).”

Keep watching for more information about more guests and hotel information. Keep an eye on our forums and the Alien Encounters Facebook page.

It's extremely unlikely that I will be there (travel costs would be ridiculous for someone with my age and income, considering I live on the mainland) but I'll try my hardest to make something work.

    Because this sounds fabulous.

Very ... I'm in North London so not too far... Haven't been to a con before... what kind of things do people get up to? What's the difference between Saturday and Sunday... To be honest I'm tempted to go for the Alien Experience alone, was always a bit gutted I missed out on that!

Be great to see you guys there, I look forward to meeting you all. You can't miss me, I have a ridiculous hair style and will be hosting the Prometheus panel which kicks off the events (11am).

Still sporting the cornrow style hair?

BTW guys, I've been asked about recordings of the Prometheus panel and ADC has kindly informed me:

I will be filming (using crew) all the panels/Q&As exclusively so there will be no video shot by the audience allowed. And if I catch anyone as covert or spy like as me trying to do so I'll stop proceedings! You know what I mean. ;-)
All the other stuff though is fine to video including the Alien Encounter, and I encourage people to do so. Believe, bruv – there'll be loads to capture on the ol' smart phone or camcorder.

There is a good reason I'm being strict about the talks. I'd rather have high quality versions of the panels out there and as you know by now my philosophy is very much about sharing and bringing the 'factions' of the Alien fan community together.

So I decided to film the panels properly with good sound and they'll be edited and put on a DVD which will be sold for £10, for up to two months after the show. When that two month period is up, I'll put all the panels on YouTube for everyone to see. I want all the people that can't get there or can't afford to go to see them. I'll also torrent the DVDs for people to burn for themselves, along with artwork.

So why the DVDs to be sold? Because I want to raise more money for Medi Cinema. If I sell 50 DVDs I'll raise another £500 and that would make me a very happy camper. Know what I mean? You can google Medi Cinema, it's a great cause.

It's a fair point, I don't think the Space Centre gave it proper thought regarding the emailing of bank details.
Though as Cpl Hicks said, a good few peeps have paid that way.
The Space Centre did provide their account details as well so you can make a bank transfer yourself by using internet banking.

    I'll definitely be there!

I won't be going to the dinner though, there's too much on that menu that I can't eat/don't like so fun as it would be... no. Will be lurking around during the day though.
  9. get to da choppa
cheers mate, its gonna be epic! just let us know the check in time for the hotel  and i'll book the train tickets.Goin' on an express train to hell, i mean Leicester, actually i'm sure hell is a nicer place.
  10. get to da choppa
Corporal Hicks- Hold on to that damn chopper for me ...After much deliberation and special clearance from the missus, I've raided the piggy bank and have been green lit. One quick thing to ask, looking at train prices to get from mine to yours the cost is exactly the same from mine to Leicester plus the travel time is shorter by 1hr to go direct to Leiceseter, so I will make my own way down, trying not to get lost on the way and will hopefully arrange to meet you after. So, with this in mind, i'm up for sharing a room if wanted to do that, and will bung you some reddies on arrival. plus i'll be packing my mace spray and rape alarm, handy for close encounters!! ;)

  12. Corporal Hicks
A few more details. More stuff to follow  ;D

"Can I buy advance tickets, or buy online?"
No. And no need to as there will be plenty of room for eveybody coming.
So it's pay on the door – no advance bookings.
All the proceeds go to children charities – somewhat unusual for an event of this kind. This is because the National Space Centre itself is a charity so they're able to get breaks to make this all possible. It also keeps the cost down for our convention attendees.

    Hotel information
£48 B&B rate at the Premier Inn, Leicester Braunstone South as a convention special deal. Runs 23-26 September.
However, it is cheaper if you book a hotel room now without breakfast at the non-refundable rate but it will get more expensive week on week so that's why the NSC has set up the B&B deal (which can be booked anytime before and during the event weekend).

You could get three or four in a room – this is what the UKCM lads do to keep the cost down.

There is also a city center Prem Inn that seems cheaper, checking today's prices (again, if booked now) so you might want to consider that.
I stayed at both and can recommend them. They're cheap, decent but if you're coming by train you may want the city centre hotel which might appeal to some.

Haha awesome, if it's scary consider me there. Plus, Marines? Don't mind me if I go into screaming damsel in distress mode just to get a little attention ;)

    Wicked. Muahaha. This sounds great.

What's the Alien Encounter going to be like? Is it suitable for those of a nervous disposition?
It is very similar to Alien War, so it is scary in places. The plot is completely different though.

You start with an eight minute briefing and visitor film in the company of Dr Carabass, the lead Weyalnd-Yutani research scientist at the installation.

After the briefing you're taken in to the main science control room where the research they're doing is explained in detail.

Don't worry though, you'll be flanked by the heavy Colonial Marine security presence at all times.
    You know, just in case...
     ;)
