Prometheus Banner Spotted

Shocktilyoudrop got their hands on a picture of a licensing banner for Prometheus in the Licensing Expo taking place in Las Vegas. No pictures from the movie, I’m afraid. It’s just text but it’s a start.

 Prometheus Banner Spotted

In related news, Ridley Scott is going to be filming in Iceland next month. Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace will be there filming. Russell Crowe (Gladiator, Robin Hood) also visited the Prometheus set this week and said on Twitter how much he liked it. Thanks to Darkoo for the news.

Hi, all. Here's a new version of my Prometheus banner recreation. BTW - I'm trying to make out what the text is at the bottom of the original - can anyone help? Cheers. :)

I like your edit the most, good job.  ;)

yeah sorry bout that, i must be mentally retarded that i haven't read every single post... especially not yours!

why dont i put a bullet in my head.

oh and it doesnt make any sense to me, that it was supposed to be that way - while this was the first time it was on display, this is probably a promotional poster that will be used in many other places where they won't have this kind of light. i think you're reading too much into the whole thing. and it doesn't make it more mysterious or anything. it's just a rather plain poster that keeps to what ridley and the crew have been doing so far - basically giving away nothing about the story or the (potential) aliens.

Hey, I may have gone a bit overboard :P (since it obviously annoyed the heck out of me) but I do have a point don't I? Your post in a sense was a rhetorical question since the answers are all there for the reading, so it really is a pointless post and a waste of yours and my time.

Im not trying to over analyse the poster like some, I simply looked at it and got a feeling from the design and setting that seemed to fall in line with what I already felt about the movie from what I have read and know about it so far. I am grateful that people have taken the time to try and recreate it digitally to capture that feeling. It may not invoke the same feelings for you, as it's a personal case of how you interpret things but it seems enough people feel the same to go to the effort of recreating it.

So again, sorry for the rant...it just annoys me that all these people have taken the time to start from the start and respond to each other in a discussion but you just expect to butt in and have people take the time again to explain it all just for you because you can't be bothered starting from post 1 like everyone else had to...it's like que jumping, so get back in line :P

    Cheers,

    Valheru

What is it with people that post these kind of posts....don't you start reading from the start of the thread? If you could be bothered reading the posts that come before, you would know what's going on and not need to post such useless posts ::)...is it just me or is it not logical to read up on a topic before posting about it? Geez!

Hey thanks, Valheru. Really appreciate your comments. This has been a great thread in helping track down some of the finer details for this piece. I guess the text at the bottom is either something along the lines of, 'Coming Soon', a release date, or a web address. How about...

why is there an area of grey on your poster - the original one is just black. or is the head lamp included?

Ummmm.....that light glow and the lens flares are from the track lighting that's shining on the poster itself, not the poster.

BTW, awesome poster P2P with your latest efforts...regarding the text at the bottom, I highly doubt anyone is going to know what it says for a long time, I'd just chuck some random words down there that are unreadable as well if you want to be completely authentic :P

I don't think I can answer that question better than this person did:

    Quote
The poster itself is obviously a plain black background but the design team would have taken into account how it was to be displayed and designed with this in mind...if it was to be displayed in an outdoors environment under sunlight it would look completely different as this one would look completely dull and uninteresting in full sunlight...the lighting adds a lot of atmosphere and mood and this needs to be replicated in a digital remake to capture the true essence of the moment in the photo.

    ...Unless, of course, you prefer:

    Well der!... :P

...the single light shining on the real one adds like another dimension to the image, a deeper feeling than looking at a simple black background of whats hiding in the dark...a boding sense of dread (or something like that ;))....I think if you replicated the light source on the black background with some slight grain / noise and even replicated the slight real world lens flare it would be a sweet looking digital recreation of the Prometheus teaser poster ;D ...

This is exactly what I was talking about compared to the plain black example, as said the font just needs some tweaking and it's a near perfect reproduction. I think something else that could enhance the poster is the ever so slightest blue steel hue added to the polished text and that ever so slight you almost miss it lens flare so that you almost feel like you are looking at the actual poster...its the small details that make the difference 8)

Note to the artist on the above: nice work but I think the light effect needs a little toning down now as it's made the image to light overall and lost it's dark "feel". You also forgot the tiny text at the bottom...but I wouldn't worry too much about my notes, I AM a picky bastard ;D

    fix'd

LOL, thats so over the top its just pure sarcasm :P...I only meant to literally recreate what you see in the photo ;)

Might have to fire up photoshop and whip out my own version.

The only thing I see of note is that the 'E' is upside down....which may hint at something. Everything we thought we knew will be turned on it's proverbial head? That said....how much control will Scott have in terms of marketing? Hmmmm.

IS it upside down though? ::) I think it's just the font...just look at it for 2 seconds, go "WOW" and leave it at that for pete's sake!

    Cheers,

The futurist movement ended because all the futurists became Nazis and the Inglorious Basterds killed them.

Seriously. Read their 'manifesto', it's disgusting. Sant'Elia did beautiful work though.

Okay.  I have no idea why,  but the font that was used in the mockup is starting to have a very uncanny effect on me.  It's starting to remind me of the jetsons for some reason I can't explain.  The slightly altered font used in the photo makes up for that.

Futurism influenced many other twentieth century art movements, including Art Deco, Vorticism, Constructivism, Surrealism and Dada. Futurism as a coherent and organized artistic movement is now regarded as extinct, having died out in 1944 with the death of its leader Marinetti, and Futurism was, like science fiction, in part overtaken by 'the future'.

Nonetheless the ideals of futurism remain as significant components of modern Western culture; the emphasis on youth, speed, power and technology finding expression in much of modern commercial cinema and culture. Ridley Scott consciously evoked the designs of Sant'Elia in Blade Runner.

predxeno could totes recon jetsons into the avp universe........ don't tempt him.

Predxeno could work Basil Fawlty, Wilma Flintstone and Barney the Dinosaur into the "AvP" canonical universe and still believe it makes sense.  Just saying...

In all seriousness though; what would this forum be like without Predxeno?  64% less interesting by my calculations.

We'd also have 64% less threads floating around. As rediculous as some of them are, I love them and shit would get real boring around here. No one's brain processes thoughts like predxeno's. He is really special.

I actually altered the font to match the poster, so it's almost identical, the gradient is giving it that effect, something I don't think the original has, hard to tell from the photo.

It's part of the fonts design, and common in other art deco fonts.
