AvPGalaxy Interviews Brian Steele

I recently had chance to have a chat with Brian Steele, the performer responsible for Mr Black and Falconer in the recent Predators film:

“It was different in scope because there was so much source material on the Predator. The character isn’t being developed from scratch. There is already an outline in place on what is expected from the performance. With other characters I have done the canvass is blank which allows me a different type of freedom on personality and movement.”

I’d like to thank Brian for taking the time to talk to us. Be sure to read the whole interview here.

As good as Brian Steel is in Predators, I still wish they had brought in Ian Wyte from AVP Alien vs. Predator and AVPR Aliens vs. Predator Requiem.

brian steel was shit at playing predator. felt like a big guy in a suit, no alien feel to it at all, they should of had ian whyte, he portrays the predator very well, esp in avp-r  'the wolf' was awesome!

Brian Steele is one of my favorite actors and creature performers and Berserker Predator (Mr. Black) is truly one of his best roles next to Mr. Wink from Hellboy 2. He truly portrayed an epic Predator worthy of being right next to Kevin Peter Hall. He needs to come back to the sequel and I think he should be writing because his idea is what we need.

Just shot Mr. Steele an Email to see if he'd want to do an intro for one of my Let's Play videos. :D Ian Whyte did one for me earlier this year.

Great interview, by the way! He seems like a cool dude.

"I would like to see a Predator movie that deals with the Predators fighting strengths, agility, and style and of course pages and pages of Predator character development."

I like this guy. As far as his own pred suit performances, I think Antal and whoever was giving him directions is more to blame cause he was bitchin' as sammeal and Wink.

That was great interview. I had no idea that Derek Mears and Brian Steele were friends. I'm surprised that they went after Derek Mears before they cast Brian Steele as a Predator considering Brian Steele has portrayed way more movie monsters and is a lot taller. I always thought it was Carey Jones that played the Falconer Predator?

He should do a workshop with Whyte, or better yet directly work with Whyte. Falcon was fine, but Black was stiiiiiiiiff, like he worked on him a little too long..

Steele did a great job with Mr. Black, but it would of been nice to see some more development and variation with the Falconer character. Also the Tusk predator, but he just needed more on screen time I think...

Interesting interview though. Thanks again Hicks!

QuoteBrian Steele – Yes, if the script was good! For a sequel, I would like to see a Predator movie that deals with the Predators fighting strengths, agility, and style and of course pages and pages of Predator character development.

Even the Predator actors want more Predator development!

All Steele did was huff and puff as a predator. The movements and body language just weren't there. Of course a lot of people have liked him but I just don't agree.

Regardless, he seems like a nice guy and that was a good interview.
