Predator Reboot Confirmed!

You’ll all remember that reboot of Predator that we posted about and then Fox debunked? Well apparently that isn’t the case and it is on (which we also reported following the second report about Cena’s interest and a tip-off we got from a source). Well anyway, IESB is reporting it is apparently confirmed:

We’ve heard the rumblings that this was coming via B-D, but now it’s been confirmed. IESB has also confirmed it will be Rodriguez’ own take on the original concept and he is in fact not only producing the reboot, he’s also directing it.

In a news conference today at Troublemaker Studios, several Texas state politicians were in attendance to sign HB 873, the long-awaited reform of the Texas film incentive program.

Rodriguez talked to the audience of press members and revealed his upcoming film slate.

“I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.”

I am, once again, awaiting “confirmation” from Fox. I can’t say I’m overjoyed about this given his original Predators (Predator 3 pitch). You can read the whole article here. Thanks to Pierce for the tip. Keep watching this space for further developments.

EDIT: Okay boys and girls! Brace yourself! This is true! Confirmed by Fox mere seconds ago. This reboot is on the way. I’m expecting some sort of press release soon so keep checking back.

What is the point of a reboot?  You only do a reboot when the original wasn't that good to begin with (I.e., Batman, Hulk).  The original Predator is a classic and cannot be improved upon.  Furthermore, there is so much still unexplored with the Predator that a sequel is what is needed, not a rehash.

A reboot is essentially a remake. Don't be fooled by this new "hip" term. If they are erasing the previous films and starting over, it's a remake. f**k this and f**k Fox.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to make a sequel called Predator 3 because it has been awhile since Predator and Predator 2. It would be hard to get newcomers to want to see a sequel to movies that are over sixteen years old.   We don't need a remake but we desperately need a reboot. The same thing happened with Batman. The first couple of Batman films (Tim Burton era) were pretty good but the series was eventually ruined by cheasy sequels. Then the reboots, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight prooved to be even better than the Tim Burton film (in my opinion atleast). So hopefully the same thing will happen with Alien/Predator. Let's hope Fox doesn't blow this. They probably will.    ::)

I, for one, am not impressed over the idea of a remake (or, in this a case, a reboot). However, I am interested in how it pans out. It'd be worth it if it was still in the same Universe-canon as the other Predator movies, just not directly related to the other Predators/AVPs and set somewhere else in the world (not just Northern/Central America! lol). Example; I'd love to see Predators in China or Japan. Or, indeed, Egypt, Australia or New Zealand...Somewhere hot, like they'd prefer.  And is it just me getting this feeling that Rodriguez is calling it a 'reboot' as a disguise and will actually make a sequel (or a prequel)?    ???

Bring it on, i cant wait desperado was a cool film. aslong as he does the film and the story right, and please fox pump some money into this film. predator is one of my faviourite films along side aliens, so dont mess this up. please....

You. Have. Got. To. Be. SHITTING ME!   >:(   A reboot?! Seriously? Why? Why not a true predator sequel?! And with Rodriguez?! The man is a freak'n hack! He's right up there with Tarantino.   Well, Fox has now successfully made the Alien AND Predator fan in me cry in shame.   :(

predator 3 if it's a sequel yes remake hell no  anyone thinking predator with a guitar case full of guns  ha ha only kidding .give the guy a chance surely he can't make things any worse in the alien predator  film universe  can he?.anyway fox have a habit of cocking up so i guess we will have to wait, where the hell is alien 5?   ;)

Why do we need a reboot, there was nothing wrong with the 1st PREDATOR movie, damn, I hate Hollywood, if its a kind of sequel or something I wouldn't mind, but remakes are the laziest form of movies these days.
  11. Mustafuck
and what about Schwarzenegger now?, he was very important to the film too, not just the predator.  Also, the original predator looked way better than those ones from avp.

From I've read from the forums and coments all over the net in the AVP community, this re-boot/remake announcement is gradually transforming from a mixed bag of opinions to an enthusiastic possibility.  My questions is: Haven't we learned anythng from the AVP movies? Clearly FOX does  not respect the significance of these two Monsters to the sci-fi movie genre. Instead, to them is a mear dying product ready to be used to squeeze a quick buck from true fans like we. My position regarding this annoucement, contrasting with the previous about AVP, is of concern. Predator lends it itelf to incredible movie iterations, but the fact that an unimaginative reboot od the original one to me says that FOX is once again playing it safe and by the NUMBERS! Predator 3, with horror and tru filmaking art!
  13. Dr.PaulChurch
I agree 100%, Daz. If it's a story on its own that doesn't try to retell the original two films or use different actors to portray the characters, this could be a blessing with potential for a really well-done, gritty, new story.  All I can say is, if this is a remake of the original, then it is a dark day for science-fiction, and a real shame and disrespect to the late, great, Stan Winston. I hope they have the decency not to tarnish the original masterpiece with this. To me, it's like repainting the sistine chapel to "update it."  Worst of all, if this does well, you know they will remake Alien or Aliens too. "At Fox, no one can hear fans scream."
  14. Keyes
Well I really hope this is not a "remake" of the 1st film.  I don't mind if this is a restart for the franchise, as long as it could still be considered a sequal to the originals.... ie, doesn't trample over canon by starting again.
  15. rexemmen
:'(   If I read the article well there talking about a reboot not a remake right????? If it is a remake I'm going to start a boycot here in holland!!!! And I'm in advertising so that shoudn't be hard.   Anyway does anybody know the southpark episode where they rape indiana? well I think that a new episode of that with preddie is on the way!!! Shit man I'm really pissed those assholes at fox don't get it at all.
  16. dachande89
Why remake what has already been a success? I don't care if its a reboot or a remake, what it should be is a sequel! There are so many Predator ideas floating out on the net alone, so why redo a concept?
  17. revility
atleast they got a decent director behind it.  Which is much more than we got with the last 2 films.  Though I don't really understand why it has to be a reboot unless their washing away all the predator lore from the avp films.  The predator movies and concept were pretty stand alone and no connection to the other films has to be even made.  I just prey its not a remake, and they don't redesign the predators because somebody wants to put their dick stamp on it
  18. Xenomorphine
I seriously hope that this is NOT his similarly-titled 'Predator 3' concept (and I'm not talking about the pirate ship one, either). Even if Stan winston returned from the grave to do the special effects for it, the story was horrid.
  19. TarheelPredator
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. The guy has some good movies under his belt....and if the "s" in the title ("Predators") is any indication, the storyline might be interesting. As long as it's not a remake or another lone predator hunting isolated humans movie.
  20. Cetanu
Sweet mother of gawd DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!    FTGDMFW.  Well, in about one day we've gotten awesome AvP3 news, and some sickening, heart-wrenching P3 news. Nothing can make the day worse. No remake! NO!
  21. The Wolf
The point in whining comes from the fact that they gave up on the original series which we all (safe to say) wanted to see a sequel rather than a remake. Its like taking a huge dump on the original when we could of had a sequel.
