Colin Strause on AvP2 SFX

Colin recently gave a small comment on how the effects in AvP2 were done:

“Special Effects are done on set. Visual Effects are done after the shoot. We started some of the bigger shots early on in the editting, but most of the shots aren’t started until the edit is mostly locked in so that you aren’t wasting money on shots that won’t make it into the film.”

So, xeno, don't sweat it, you will see it no matter how bad or good it is, so why trying to convince me and yourself you should wait and see it, making the classical mistake Fox is expecting you to do... R My advice, if you choose to accept it (probably not) is: read a lot of reviews, check where the reviews cross paths, and decide... maybe I am not that much of a fan,, after all... I liked the Alien saga, but never quite let it control me...Oh well...  PS - Sorry if I am coming down too hard on you... but when you are wrong, I say so...so sue me... Honesty oblige...

Xeno, who's gloating...? I am not the one whitewashing AVP2 like you are doing... I analyse things, I scrutinise info, that is what i do... i confront it with what we know and AVP2 affects Aline continuity by placing the story on Earth soil... Period... there is no way you can chng that... What precedes it is much more important than Fox trying to make an easy, brainless buck with it... What is your prob seing it for what it is, a failure ...? DO you need t see a movie to know it will suck...? Man, you probably spend a lot of money on movies then...! That is what your experience and reason do:analyse the data available to you... You kno who writes it, you know who directs it, you know the cast, you know the setting, you know alot already... what do you need more, the fights and how the Alien an Pred look? You have the last one already... Not the VFX Alien or Pred, but pretty close... So, your blind faith is quite appaling... nevertheless, this scrutinity never stopped me from reading reviews before ACTUALLY going to see it... too bad i didn't do that on AlienRes, i would be saving some money there... But hell,  just to get closure, i would have seen it anyway... but AVP2 already is starting limping, so I will definitely be expecting  early reviews and other reviews before spending my 5 bucks on this... Just me being smart, I guess...

Well, you are on the minority side there regarding BB, Xeno...  But nevertheless, I was making a point that knowing in advance the script will not damage your pleasure watching the movie, unless the script is a disgrace, like AVP2's first one...

On the other hand, I thought 'Batman Begins' was both mediocre and disappointing... :)  I do not see the point of releasing anything this early. What would the point be? Why do you want details this many months before even an advertising campaign has begun? The last film had lots of hype and many people felt that promotion gave them a misleading impression of hwo the film would be. Why ask for the same?  I'm glad they're not releasing many details and we all know hardly any film review sites have actually generated much interest for a look at the script, which means few would bother to seek out that information.  You have done very little aside from appearing to gloat in anticipation of a failure, but with very little foundation to support such a view. Please stop presuming. Wait for something definite.

So, Xeno, details won't damage the aprreciation of the movie, because a good movie survives this... A good movie will easily survive the detailing, synopsis, and shots... I read Batman Begins script a year before it premiered, and i knew by then the movie was good and had good dialogues, and that made me enjoy it so much more... The script is just dialogues and stage directions...the visuals complete the package... That is one of the reasons why I think scripts of visual movies should be made available, not because it destroys the ending (hell, we all know the ending of these movies - the good guy wins, or the humans win, or whatever, ...) keeping the visual appeal unscathed for the movie-viewing... Batman Begins was an amazing surprise for me because i thought the script was awesome, but when i saw the movie, it still blew me away... THAT is why when a script is good, the rest just adds to how good it is... If AVP2 script was any good, FOX woould not be so secretive about it... That is rule nº 1 for movie marketing101: "If the script and final cut fails to meet expectations, lacking creativity and appeal, give as few details as possible as to lure more easily the unexpecting masses or fanbase to the theaters"... And for that purpose, they already made a mistake... they showed what the Aliens and Predator look like...     :D

If the Strauses and FOX were confidente the movie and the story were good, they would give more pics, more trailers, more info than what they have given so far...  That was my first hint...  My second hint was why they maintained the confidence in Shane Salerno after a disastrous first draft script, that showed that Shane Salerno is not a good writer even for a popcorn movie like this... he has no understanding of the Alien and Predator franchises, a lot of errors within, a lot of cheesy, clich

No, you'd get no details about the story. They're doing the right thing and keeping it as secret as they can. All you'd get would be two or three generic pictures of the characters, that would be all.

They said they were not WASTING money. They did not say they are trying to save money. It's a big difference and remonstrates being professional.  Why do so many people keep on begging for advertising? If they release anything, how much longer would you wait before crying out for somehting else? One week? Two? Perhaps three? Then, if it turns out they didn't edit it right, get a good score or anything else, would you criticise them for spending too much time on promotion and not enough on the film?
  9. Newsfop
I can imagine they'd probably bust their loads at something as simple as a splash screen of non-descript effects, some random slogans and some recycled theme music at this point.   :D

Yeah, looks like that trailers got you near "mental" status, calm down lad!   :D     I'm just holding onto my sanity, why did we have to start the site up so early!!!......lol
  11. RIJOENPIAL
It seems Warner is smarter than FOX... GO WARNER!!!  hey, maybe Warner will eventually buy Fox out and we will have the Alien sequels we deserve, right? Not to mention Predator...  HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

About the Trailer, it is rumoured that a trailer will be available in July with Die Hard - The Geriatric Returns'... hell, they ended Lethal Weapon BECAUSE Mel was 'getting too old for this', now FOX returns the 50-year old Bruce Willis back...? Didin't they get the hint in Die Hard 3, when we saw a John MClane huffing and puffing with Samuel Jackson...? Well, this is for another forum anyway... so there ya go, a trailer will be available to you ONLY in JULY..:   >:(     >:(     :'(     :'(     :'(
  13. RIJOENPIAL
SiL, I posted before reading yours...  So, why don't they release the Director's Cut? Oh, I know, to make more money with the DC DVD... Trick question there...  Nevertheless, we're (I'm) drifting from the subject...
  14. RIJOENPIAL
Katarn, what do YOU think I am talking about?  Apparently, the Strauses don't get that any additional scenes to a theatrical version need to be shot in advance, therefore, any scenes with VFX that don't make the theatrical but could well be in the DC, must be filmed altogether...  Again, if you don't understand anything, all you need is ask...
  15. Katarn
RIJOENPIAL, do you even have any idea what you're talking about?  The theatrical cut is always the studio's version, since they payed for it. Any Director's Cut would be for dvd-release
  16. RIJOENPIAL
Apparently, the Strauses never heard of 'Director's Cut'.... and rest assured Fox will edit this version to extort more money from the ones still resilient to buy AVP2 Theatrical version... About the FX, who cares about that babble...?
