“UK Teletext reports that British director Paul W. S. Anderson is to write the sixth movie in the “Alien” franchise, according to sources close to the film maker. Whether that includes the return of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) however is unknown. The offer for the moment is simply to pen the script, not to direct as such although that may happen thanks to the success of AVP. “
I assume when they say the sixth movie, they’re counting AvP as part of the Alien franchise. The teletext page is on Channel 4, page 311. Full transcript on the next page.

“British director Paul Anderson is all set to write the sixth movie in the alien franchise. Newcastle born Anderson has told teletext exclusively that twenty century fox has asked him to put together a script featuring the chestbursting creature. Anderson is already very familiar with the beast in question, having directed Alien vs Predator which is on screen now. Teletext has learned that the series of alien movies which began in 1979 is all set to continue with Paul Anderson onboard as writer. Anderson comes from a strong sci-fi horror background and most recently directed alien vs predator.”
“His track hits also includes Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Event Horizon, and more recently. With Alien vs Predator recently released it now appears another Alien movie is in the pipeline with Paul Anderson on writing duties. There have already been four films in the series aside from the current one, all of which Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. Weaver has not yet confirmed shes will be appearing in the new movie but has repeatedly expressed an interest reprising the role.”
