AvP Not Finished For Cinemas?

This is interesting. According to IESB.Net, Alien vs Predator won’t even be ready for cinemas on August 13th because edits still need to be made.

“The studio is rushing the editors and the special effects houses to get this film ready by it’s target release date of August 13th but they are not confident that it will be done by opening day. To make things worse 20th Century Fox has had to cancel the Junket for the film because they know that the print will not be ready in time. Junkets are normally held 1 to 2 weeks prior of the release date so the journalists can see the film and interview the talent involved and finally review the film. Even the films Red Carpet World Premiere that was going to be held at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on August 10th has been cancelled due to the same problem. So will we see AVP on the 13th? Maybe but it might not be the final version that the studio wanted the audience to see.”

So is it speculation or is there any truth to this rumour? I think it’s rubbish to be honest. The MPAA have already rated the final film and all the editing has been finished. Thanks to Chris and Bloody-Disgusting for the news.

    G-dog. The whole film was finished and the prints are as far as i know ready. So few more days and you will see that this shit all about that the film will not be out on fridays......so enjoy it.

    Your right about the controversy ploy... except I've only seen this rumor on a couple of websites... and not one of those websites gets anywhere near the amount of visitors the major sites would.  Setting a rumor up on sites with relatively small daily hits doesn't make much sense.  There might have been some credibility to this whole thing if it had been reported on Cinescape, Variety, or PlanetAvP (each of those websites brings in hundreds of thousands of visitors a day... if not more).  Hate to say it... but the more we talk about this here... the more we're letting the person (or people) who created the rumor get what they want... which is to somehow put a pall on the release of what is probably going to be the best action movie of the summer.  Enough said....

    Remember the saying?  "Theres no such thing as bad publicity?"  Methinks it applies here.  FOX knows there's a built in audience that is going to see this movie.  A little controversy thrown into the mix a week before release doesn't hurt in trying to garner sales from "non-fans".    I'm just about crapping my pants in anticipation.  This is not high art folks.  It's a drag down knock em out WWE style fest that I believe will deliver.  It is not Laurence of Arabia.  Sheesh!@    ???

    And actually... theaters should be getting the film within the next two to three days (Thursday at the very very latest).  This according to a friend who works at the Regal Cinema theater located next to the MGM Grand on the Las Vegas Strip....

    GODMACHINE - first off please try not to type in all caps... it's irritating.  Secondly... the rumor specifically states the premier at Grauman's Chinese Theater had been cancelled.  As of right now (1 day prior to the premier), Grauman's Chinese Theater still lists the AvP Premier as August 10th.  Thirdly, the film still has a PG-13 rating attached to it.  If the film has not been completed, a new final cut of the film would be submitted to the MPAA and the PG-13 rating would be removed.  And finally...  if there was any substance to this rumor, why is it's not being reported anywhere else on the internet?  I check a lot of movie websites and AvP movie sites and none of the credible sites (Variety, Cinescape, PlanetAvP, etc) are running this rumor.  As for the TV spots comment, it's normal for a film to start running spots and TV trailers about two weeks before a film release.  TV spots and trailers didn't hit the airways for Spider Man 2 until about a week and a half prior to the release of the film.  Each of the LotR movies followed a similiar pattern.  And both Alien3 and Alien Resurrection didn't start running their promo stuff on TV until about two weeks prior to release.  As for the whole deal with presale tickets, that's something that is usually done on an individual theater basis.  Here in Las Vegas, the only theater selling presale tickets for the film is the theater located right next to the MGM Grand.  I have friends that work at theaters across town and most of the theater managers have opted not to presell.  So go ahead and put faith in a clearly bogus rumor.  The rest of us here on the site will be sure to point and laugh at you on opening day...  ;-)

    AS OF LATE THERE ARE RUMORS OF A DELAY IN THE MOVIE ALIEN VS PREDATORS RELEASE SCHEDULE, WELL IF ITS TRUE THAT WOULD MAKE ALOT OF SENSE OUT OF ALL THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH THE FILM. 1. I MEAN THE MOVIE GOT A RATING JUST TWO AND A HALF WEEKS BEFORE IT OPENS WHICH IS VERY UNCOMMON UNLESS A FILM IS BEHIND SCHEDULE. 2. ALOT OF THE SCENES IN THE TRAILERS AND CLIPS ARE  INCOMPLETE (visible wires and unfinished CG). 3. THE ONE MINUTE FIGHT SCENE RELEASED BY YAHOO HAS SOME OF THE WORST EDITING EVER (note: a bunch of missing shots that set up the position of the creatures not to mention the lousy music they got in the background, I have done better film editing). 4. TV SPOTS HAVE BEEN FEW AND FAR BETWEEN UNTIL THESE LASTS TWO WEEKS. (seems like really bad publicity, not the kinda thing you get from a megabuster.) 5. I HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY PREMIERS OR EVENTS RELATED TO THE FILM GOING ON THIS WEEK. 6. NEARLY EVERY BIG HOLLYWOOD FILM TO COME OUT HAS PRESALE TICKETS SELLING ALL OVER, THIS FILM IS ONLY BEING PRESOLD FOR A FEW THEATERS WITHIN 50 MILES OF MY LA HOME. ALL THESE MAKE ME PUT SOME FAITH IN THE RUMOR THAT THE FILM MIGHT NOT MAKE ITS RELEASE DATE. BUT IM SURE IF THATS SO FOX HAS GUYS WORKING ALL DAY AND NIGHT TO FINISH IT. I STILL SAY THEY SHOULD HAVE LISTEND TO JIM CAMERON.

    They could loss the reel in the tolet and get it flushed to bora bora. Or they could use up all the funding the day befor release and not have money to rent the theater. ORororor  they could get a muffin stuck in the projecter and make it blow up and kill all the actors!!    Stay in the light....for demons do weit for thouse who wonder.

    Well I checked this site out and to me it looks more of a fan site.  Anyway I don't believe it and it seems someone just wants attention.  The MPAA all ready has the rating so I don't think they will show an unfinished version that would be stupid. Also would be a bad move for the company anyway.

    OK first,  i dont think that all this is true at all, dont believe evrything you read or hear. Thats a rule on the net. One of the most important thing to remember on the net.  Then, stop it with the clip thing ppl, we heard enough of it, it was 95 % awsome, and still its not even the real thing. And its not even on big screen so stop it. Like some of ya said, not all preds r the same, celtic is the big one in the pred gang, so its normal that he is slower and all. Get over it.  And again, about that rumor, I dont mind at all waitning bit more for it so hat i see a finished and awsome product. But since this is nothing to be trusted yet, i say lets get prepared for next friday cuz it will be BIG !

    If this statement is at all true, they should at least have plenty of time to finish their jobs and have all the stuff they need done by the time the dvd edition comes out on it's release date..... There's Still Hope!!!!

    This is a bogus rumor... probably created by some anti-AVP or anti-Anderson fanatic.  The simple facts of the matter are this (my uncle is a producer and I took this "rumor" to him):  The MPAA will only give a rating on a finalized cut of the film (all scenes and major special effects are in place).  The final cut of the film may or may not include the finalized audio track (as this is typically the very last part of the movie completed).  After a rating has been assigned, the movie cannot be edited without having to resubmit a new final cut to the MPAA for re-evaluation.  If this should happen, the rating that was previously assigned would be removed and the movie rating would return to a "Rating Pending" status.  This status would be reflected in all movie-related material in the form of updated posters, IMDB database entry, official movie website, and trailers/tv spots.  That said, if this rumor was actually true, you would see updated movie posters bearing the "Rate Pending" branding on them within the next couple of days.  You would also see the same branding on trailers/tv spots.  As for internet content that can be changed on the fly, the "Rate Pending" branding would already have replaced the prior rating on the official movie website, IMDB database, and other internet-content relating to the movie.  As of right now (8/6/2004 3:22pm), the official movie website and IMDB database both reflect a PG-13 rating.

    ok everybody quit bitching about the celtic predator, theres a reason hes slow and what not, we already went over it, hes called celtic becuz hes over weight and slower then the rest of the preds.  2nd the aliens have armor skin, one of the toughest skin out there. so him being tossed around isnt gonna do much but get him sick

    Wow, i just saw the new trailer with the alien queen chasing lex in the bine yard and the first person view of the aliens running and climbing up to the top of the pyramid.These trailers keep getting better week after week i tells ya.And about this little tid bit of news, now its up to you to believe it or not but i doubt this is actual gact because seeing the quality of the trailers and how everything looks in them this has to be done.Now  like some of you are saying about you would rather have them push ack the avp release date till when ever then have them rush out an unfinished film just to meet there deadline.Screw that shit if its not done right the first time dont bother putting it out until it is finished.I dont want some half assed version of this movie i want the real deal, now they already  screwed with the rating so they better not mess this up to. Morons

    When a predator fights a human (Aka arnie) it was a knockdown street fight much like what we saw in the clips. Look if all you bitchy kids don't like what you see in the clips don't see the film. I know I'll be alot happier to go a  theatre and not see some loser teen sitting there going "OMG!!!!1111oneoneone0ne! the predators are the suck!!!!!"

Why are people still entertaining the idea that an unfinished film will be released on Friday? Why do people think it's even possible. It's insane I tell you. INSANE!

    For any of us real fans out there -if you saw the blades melt on the HBO special - and herd the gay lion roar - you are most likely going to be dissapointed with certain stuff in the movie. I am so sick of reading and waiting for this to come out wondering if they took a battle between 2 of the most advance killing machines in the universe and turned it into wwf match on crack. I hope that if they are making changes they change all of the stuff the real fans are going to hate the movie for, and hopefully the rest of the movie will be what you expected and more.

    Well there's some truth to it at least, because movies are always cutting it close to the wire like this.  Perhaps when they say down to the wire, they mean before submitting it to the MPAA?  Or perhaps there is some leeway as to what KIND of editing is allowed after being rated?  As an example, they can touch up FX and edit scenes as long as no new material is added in, which is what I'm pretty sure is the actual rule.

    People, people... just watch the full theatrical trailer. Does that look like it's built from segments of an unfinished film? Have Fox ever been resposible for releasing unfinished films in the past? Hell, have unfinished films EVER made theatres? I don't think so. AvP's US release date has been set since Featurette 1. The film has been rated by the MPAA therefore it IS FINISHED. I can't believe some people are treating this like a credible possibility. Bloody Disgusting simply printed the news from  IESB.Net, a site I've never heard of before. And since no other website is listing it we'll treat IESB.Net as the source of this news... If they're the source why do they neglect to mention where their news came from? Because the news didn't come from anywhere!

    I hope to freaking God that AvP doesn't come out next Friday if its not finished. Quoting from G-Dog, I'd rather wait till December for AvP and have it be polished up to perfection by the effects people than to have people get an awful impression because the movie was released on its normal date in a half-assed format. I do not want to see AvP unless its at its very best, fans deserve that, and so does Paul Anderson. He worked his butt off on this movie, he doesn't deserve to have his hard work shit on just because studios feel obligated to release the film on their original date. Also, the studio needs to keep their mouths shut and quit telling the effects people to "rush and hurry." They need to be given the time to complete it with quality, if not they're bound to miss something significant.

    Hmm, has anyone else watched the fight scene trailer five dozens times like me? Not only does it not look finished BUT they replayed the same scene 3 times in it but not 100% of it each replay. I have a feeling this actual scene in the movie will be 40-50% diferent asside from finishing touches (diferent scenes pasted between).

    Ever since the AvP production began, all hell broke loose. I mean, there were false news, screening that was bad (or whoever said that), now the AvP is still being edited, PG-13, very short running time, I mean Jesus..what the hell is going on?????  It would be really disappoiting if we fans go in to see it, and then it turns out that AvP is the worst movie of 2004.... Whit all this bullshit going on, I will not be suprised if AvP will not please the fans!!!!!!!

    Honestly I don't get why people say "The Predator's movement's are not accurate with the past films" DUH! These Predators are not the same Predators. These ones a bigger and more warrior like than the skinnier hunters of the first 2. Also WHY should the Predator's all move the same? When I walk down the street I notice everyone moves differently so why not for Predators? I'm god damn glad with didn't get carbon copys of the original Preds.   About the Alien, I guess their head domes are alot stronger than we thought and no it wasn't because it's PG-13 that it's head didn't explode but rather because this is the Grid Alien and he is the lead Alien, hence why he can't be killed off like that.
