Now old Arnold Schwarzenegger’s political career is ending, he’s returning to film. At one of his regular Arnold Seminars, Schwarzenegger fansite The Arnold Fans asked him about his future projects. His answer was this:
“Well, first of all it’s more 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too. But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I’m going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April.”
I’m not sure why he said a remake of Predator given the release of Predators last year. Perhaps he meant a sequel to Predators. Thanks to Bat Chain Puller for the link.
As we all know, over the past few months, there’s been rumours of a cameo appearance from Arnold Schwarzenegger in the new Predators movie. There’s more news over on TheArnoldFans who attended an event last weekend. Producer Robert Rodriguez apparently said that there will not be an appearance from Arnie.
This past weekend, writer/producer Robert Rodriguez allowed 45 lucky fans the opportunity to see teasers and trailers for his new film. He also confirmed a rumor that we all feared true: Arnold will not be making an appearance in Predators. Very disappointing indeed. To his credit, Rodriguez did approach Schwarzenegger when he began writing the first draft for the movie. It has also been reported that Rodriguez even offered to push back the movie’s production start date until after Arnold had vacated the Governor’s mansion. Unfortunately, none of these tactics worked and we are now less than four months away from an Arnold-less Predator movie.
Thanks to jordan for the news.
There’s a new interview over on MTV Movies Blog with actress Alice Braga who will be playing Isabelle in Predators. She talks about the cast, particularly Adrian Brody and director Nimród Antal. She was also asked about an Arnie cameo but didn’t give anything away.
MTV News: So some footage is about to debut in Austin. Have you seen any of it yet?
Alice Braga: I haven’t seen. I saw it on set, some of the things. I’m really excited because it was a really cool project. We had a lot of fun on set. By what I’ve seen, the photography is beautiful. Gyula Pados is the [director of photography]. And Nimrod Antal is the director. But the predators, fans, they look really cool! I was really scared. The guys that play them, they’re really tall.
Predators director, Nimród Antal, has spoken about the movie in a chat with ComingSoon.net. He talks about how he got the job to direct Predators, and about the cast. He implies they will be going practical for the Predator costumes as opposed to CGI. The Arnie cameo is still up in the air right now. One thing he does confirm is that the movie is being shot as a R-Rated film.
“So far, it’s been great, and I think that the fans who may have been underwhelmed by the last two AVP films, I think they’re in for a very pleasant surprise,” he told us tentatively when asked how it was going.
Since the movie’s title seemingly will include Robert Rodriguez’s name even though the Austin-based filmmaker isn’t directing, we were curious how involved Rodriguez was in the actual making of the movie. “Robert hired me, so obviously I’m very grateful for him giving me a shot. He is involved in the screenplay and we’ve had a lot of conversations, and any big decisions I want to make, I always speak to him about, but he’s been very gracious and he’s been letting me do my thing. He’s really let me perform and he’s let me dance, so again, I’m grateful to him for that.”

A recent draft of the Predators script has been leaked onto the forum earlier today. You may remember Latino Review gave their impressions of it in September. It’s the same script dated July 12, 2009 by Mike Finch and Alex Litvak. Read at your own risk…
The script is certainly not as good as Latino Review painted it out to be. Especially with these “Black Super Predators” which may as well not be Predators at all in my opinion. If you get past them, it’s an entertaining movie. The Predator dogs and falcons work pretty well in the script. There’s references to the first movie like “If it bleeds we can kill it” etc. The worst part is the alternative ending with Arnie which is just plain ridiculous. I’ll be praying Arnie declines the role. Thanks to Stringer_Pred for posting it.
There’s a very interesting video commentary on LatinoReview who has had a look at a draft of the script dated July 12, 2009. The first look is very positive. They say the script is ‘awesome’ and providing Fox let Rodriguez handle everything, Fox will have a blockbuster on their hands by next summer. Here’s the main points:
-The script isn’t PG13, it’s a ‘bloody, violent, hard R script reminiscent of the original’.
-Story takes place on the Predators’ homeplanet… Picture it as one big jungle from the cretaceous period.
-Opening sequence takes place with our main character, Royce, chasing down something on a rooftop. The sequence ends with him killing his prey with the Predator watching. The Predator then kidnaps him. We next see the character parashooting onto the Predator planet.
-Soon after we meet seven other characters who also parashooted onto the planet: Cuchillo, Nikolai, Isabelle, Stans, Mombasa, Hanzo, and Edwin.
-They soon realise they’re prey in a game of cat and mouse and they take off on the run in the jungle. The Predator planet is a game reserve.
-A ‘Black Super Predator’ leads the hunting party of two other Super Predators.
-The characters eventually hook up with an American soldier called Nolan hiding in a cave. They find out that the Predators have been dropping humans into the game preserve for years.
-The script includes a cameo appearance from Arnie.

There’s a couple of new Robert Rodriguez interviews. The first can be found on Cinematical and the other on MTV Movies Blog. There’s not really anything new. In the latter one, he says the story will be driven by an ensemble cast and also hints at Arnie having a role.
“Rodriguez confirmed that the story will be driven by an ensemble cast and won’t take place on Earth. And he’s also hoping his version will wash away the taint of the “Aliens vs. Predator” spin-offs. “Maybe people will forget all the bad sequels and only think this one and the original exist,” he laughed. The 1987 original, of course, featured the machine gun stylings of the current Governor of California. If McG could find a way to weave Arnold into May’s “Terminator Salvation,” could Rodriguez pull off the same feat for “Predators”? “I don’t know,” he said. “That would be really great. We’ve talked about hopefully seeing if he could be involved if we see there’s a place in the script.”

Following the recent announcement regarding Predators director, Hollywood Reporter posted up an article which contained story details and a new name attached to the script:
“Alex Litvak & Michael Finch have written the script, which the studio is hoping will revive the alien-hunter franchise in a solo outing for the first time since 1990. The dreadlocked menace, who first appeared in a Central American jungle stalking Arnold Schwarzenegger and friends in 1987, has had two solo features and a pair of matchups with the double-jawed badasses of the “Alien” franchise.”
As well as this Geeks of Doom also brought the fact that Friday the 13th director Marcus Nispel was also in the running. Thanks to Space Disc Jockey for the news.
I’m sure you’ve all seen the recent rumors about Arnie returning for Predators. And you should have all seen AICN’s debunking of the rumor. However there is another gem contained in that report:
“Actually, what probably happened is someone conjured that up because of my 1994 draft, that had Dutch as a main character. And then it probably just built from there. But no, we’re still writing a new script, and although I know Arnold personally and he’s the coolest person on the planet, I have not contacted him about this at all at this time.”
This comes as a relief as the previous draft is far from perfect. Really really far. So let’s see what Alex Litvak can do with the idea. You can check out our article on Rodriguez’s ‘Predators’ Script for information on the first draft.
You may remember the rumour the other week of Arnie making an appearance in the Predators reboot. MovieHole have posted a new article that says Rodriguez has asked Arnie to be in the movie but they’re still awaiting a response. Their source reveals that they’ve written a role for Arnie in the film and Rodriguez wants to make ‘Predators’ an official sequel to the first Predator so he needs Arnie to do that. Schwarzenegger would reprise his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer but he won’t be a main character.
The other bit of news is that their source says the new script by Alex Litvak is partly based on Rodriguez’s old Predator script but with mostly new stuff. They also say the script is violent like the first movie. Thanks to countless people who told us about this news.
EDIT: Harry over at Aint it Cool News recently posted up a debunk of these rumors of Arnies involvement: “But no, we’re still writing a new script, and although I know Arnold personally and he’s the coolest person on the planet, I have not contacted him about this at all at this time.”
