The Predator, known by fans as Predator 4, is the name of the Predator sequel from Shane Black. The script was written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker and was released September 14, 2018 in the United States while the UK got it two days earlier on September 12th.

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled Science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

- Boyd Holbrook as Quinn McKenna, a former Marine and Special Forces commando who discovers the existence of the Predators.

- Thomas Jane as Baxley, a military veteran from the Afghanistan and Iraq war who has Tourettes.
- Augusto Aguilera as Nettles, one of the Loonies group.
- Jake Busey as Sean Keyes, the son of Peter Keyes, from Predator 2 is a scientist for the government agency.

Pre-Production
On June 24, 2014, it was revealed that Shane Black would direct a reboot to Predator. He wrote the treatment for it and Fred Dekker wrote the script. John Davis produced the new Predator film. There was some initial reports that it was going to be a reboot/remake but on June 25, 2014, Shane Black clarified that he will be making a sequel in the Predator series and not a reboot.
Shane Black is no stranger to the franchise having played commando Hawkins in the 1987’s Predator. Most recently, he co-wrote and directed 2013’s Iron Man 3. Whilst promoting The Nice Guys, Shane Black spoke about how he became attached to The Predator, stating he hadn’t initially wanted the job despite Fox getting in contact and asking him to do it. It was Fox’s willingness to make a big budget, “spectacle” film that convinced Black to become involved.

In August 2015, producer John Davis said Shane Black’s script has a fresh perspective and will reinvent the franchise. At the end of November 2015, Fred Dekker confirmed that the script for Predator 4 had been “turned in”. On the 16th of February 2016, Shane Black confirmed Predator 4’s title was in fact The Predator.
There were rumours circulating for years that Arnold Schwarzenegger might reprise his role as Dutch Schaefer in a Predator film. Schwarzengger had lunch with Black but Schwarzenegger revealed was very unhappy with the script and refused to take part, saying he’d only do it if “there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role.” His role in the film was going to be very minimal.
Fugitive Predator
In April 2016, rapper 50 Cent said he would have a role in the Predator film but this never transpired. There were a few different actors in the running for the lead role. Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper reportedly passed on the lead role. James Franco was in the running at one point. MMA Fighter Conor McGregor was offered the role but turned it down due to money. Boyd Holbrook replaced Del Toro. Olivia Munn then joined the cast as a scientist in the movie. The character Keyes was played by Jake Busey who happens to be the son of the government agent Peter Keyes from Predator 2. Peter Keyes was played by Gary Busey who is Jake’s father in real-life.
Production
The Predator was originally due to begin filming in September 2016 but that was delayed. Filming commenced in February 20, 2017 and ended filming May 15, 2017 in Vancouver, Canada. Amalgamated Dynamics who are no stranger to the franchise having worked on Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, AvP and AvP Requiem handled the practical effects such as the Predator costume. The Fugitive Predator‘s armour was created by Quantum FX
Post-Production
The visual effects were provided by MPC, Atomic Fiction, Raynault VFX, Rising Sun Pictures and Proof. The Upgrade Predator is the first time in a Predator film that a Predator was a purely CGI creation. Henry Jackman did the score for the film, which took Alan Silvestri’s themes from the original Predator. The film’s soundtrack album was released by Lakeshore Records on September 28, 2018.
The Upgrade Predator – Most of the third act was reshot during the nighttime.
There were some considerable reshoots during post-production. Most of the third act of the film was reshot due to the poor reaction from the test screenings. Firstly, the Ark was carrying a few hybrid creatures in stasis tubes which escape and the Loonies have to fight them. These scenes were in the test screenings with unfinished visual effects. Two ‘Emissary’ Predators were cut from the finished film. They would have been seen firing mounted guns during an APC chase, battling the Upgrade Predator and the hybrid creatures.
Originally, Edward James Olmos was going to play General Woodhurst working above Traeger’s character. There was a scene showing Olmos in his office and another at the Ark. Originally, the third act was shot during the day time but according to Black, the CGI looked terrible so it was changed to night. Edward James Olmos said his scenes were cut due to pacing issues. None of these deleted scenes were on the DVD/Blu-Ray though you could see some footage in the behind-the-scenes features. Two alternative endings were shot – one showing Ripley in a pod with a breather mask and another with an adult version of Newt in a pod. Marketing
The first teaser trailer was shown at Cinemacon in April 2018 and it was later released online on May 10, 2018. On June 26, 2018, a new The Predator trailer was released. On August 31, 2018, 20th Century Fox released the final trailer for The Predator.
Release
On February 28, 2015, Fox announced the release date as March 2, 2018 though this was later changed to February 9, 2018 to avoid clashing with monster shark movie Meg. In April 2017, Fox announced a new release date of August 3, 2018 for the movie, delaying it by six months. The Predator was delayed yet another time and was eventually released September 14, 2018. It had its premiere at TIFF in Toronto.
Sex Offender Controversy
Olivia Munn
Just hours before The Predator was due to premiere on September 6th, it was reported that 20th Century Fox had cut a scene out at the last minute featuring Steven Wilder Striegel who was a registered sex offender. L.A. Times reported it with statements from actress Olivia Munn, director Shane Black and 20th Century Fox. Fox stated they weren’t aware of Striegel’s background but Shane Black initially tried to defend Striegel, who was a friend of his. Later the same day, Black apologised and said he was ‘misled’ by a friend. Olivia Munn criticised Shane Black for casting him but thanked Fox for deleting the scene.
Munn also criticised her castmates for not giving her any support. On September 8th, The Predator cast members were scheduled to do interviews at TIFF to promote the film. Munn later said a number of them cancelled any interviews along side her and one even walked out of an interview when the deleted scene was mentioned. Olivia Munn said that none of her castmates had reached out to her and criticised them for making her feel like the bad guy. She did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and she said she felt lonely sitting there by herself and Shane Black hadn’t spoken to her directly but appreciates his public apology.
As part of L.A. Times’ original report, they asked the other castmembers for statements but they refused. Munn said she had contacted them directly and encouraged them to make statements. None of them did but made some comments in the subsequent days. Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes and Augusto Aguilera did an video interview with L.A. Times. Rhodes and Aguilera said they weren’t disappointed in Black but more at the situation and thanked Olivia for speaking up. Munn said she didn’t accept Black’s apology because it wasn’t done to her personally.
The next day on September 8th, Keegan-Michael Key issued a statement and said that he wasn’t scheduled to do any interviews with Munn and that he’d reached out to her the previous week to say he was proud of her. Sterling K. Brown also issued a statement apologising to Munn and thanked Fox for deleting the scene. On September 10th. Boyd Holbrook apologised for being quiet but thanked Munn for speaking up. He said he did cancel press interviews on the previous Saturday because he didn’t want to cause any further pain to the victim.
On September 13th, the victim involved in Striegel’s crime came forward and identified herself. She thanked Munn for raising the situation. On September 17th, Jake Busey told Vanity Fair “I think it could’ve been done like a month from now, and let the studio and the director have their night of the release and the movie, and not destroy the movie over a discovery that was made a year after filming—and 10 years after the incident. I think the timing could have been better. The director was in tears at the red carpet, which is not really the way you want it to be. But it’s done, it’s put to bed.” Olivia Munn took to Twitter to criticise Vanity Fair for running the story with Jake Busey and said she wasn’t responsible for putting the story out publicly.
The deleted scene in question would have served as Casey Bracket’s introduction. Striegel played a jogger who bumps into Casey as she is with her dog.
Box Office
The Predator had a budget of $88M. In its first weekend, The Predator came out on top with $24 million domestically while overseas, it made $30.7 million for a worldwide total of $54.7 million. For comparison sake. 2010’s Predators made $24.7m in its opening weekend while AvP Requiem made $10m. They both went on to make around $128m worldwide. The bad news, both those movies were made for around $45m and The Predator cost $88m to make. The Predator ended up making $51M domestically and $109.5m overseas for a worldwide total of $160.5m.
Reception
The Predator currently has a 33% ‘Rotten’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 255 reviews. The film gained a mixed reception with critics. Many praised the characters and the relationships with each other and the film is very gory and graphic despite copious amounts of CGI blood. The film, however, falls apart in the final act – many reviewers said it was rushed, badly edited and the visual effects were poor. The new Upgrade Predator also doesn’t bring much to the table other than being bigger and stronger than a regular Predator.

Media Releases
The Predator was released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD formats on December 18, 2018 in America and the UK. As the third act was reshot during the night, Shane Black wanted to include both versions of the media releases – Predator AM and Predator PM but Fox refused as they didn’t want to pay for the visual effects during the daytime version.
Merchandise
A novelization of The Predator, written by Christopher Golden and a prequel novelization called The Predator: Hunters And Hunted, written by James A. Moore were released shortly after the film came out. NECA released six figures in 2018/2019 based on the Predators seen in the film. Three Fugitives were released, an Assassin Predator and each of the Emissary Predators which were cut from the final film.

Predators was a good movie overall yes!
However, the Bigger Predator thing was a complete mistake.
Completely remove/forget everything about this silly Bigger Headed predator Master race shit, and just make a new predator movie, Similar to the first two Predator movies, without any Aliens, without any AvP Story related Crap.
The next predator movie needs to be EXACTLY like the first 2 movies.
a Protagonist, preferably a very good 90s character such as Arnie or Danny Glover.
make the movie take place in Any timeline, at Any Time you choose at any part of the world.
Please take to heart what type of predator you would like to introduce to the franchise, and take the predator Classes from the AvP original game “Scout, Warrior, Heavy” they looked and sounded different with interesting potential for being different in each aspect Lethal.
It would Not be a good idea to use excisting actors like that James Bond actor, or The Rock.
Vin Diesel could definetly make the cut though.
a Woman main character would be Out of the question.
Bringing back Dutch or anyone from the previous movies into the new one is a Mistake.
Make a completely new character, in a completely new environment.
First movie was in the Jungle with US Marines

3rd movie should follow that trend but keep to the old movies.
The Movie needs to be Entertaining, and Extremely Spooky like the first two movies.
Not alot of screen time with the Predator, but only when he strikes or is engaged in battle with the main protagonist.
And alot of expendable people, maybe take 20 random actors and put them in a room, then the main protagonist might show up out of those 20 after about 8 have been killed.
But never EVER make the protagonist out to be a Woman.

I agree , keeping all the Predator movies connected will keeps us fans coming back for more . The first movie showed there’s a intelligent life out there that hunts humans. The second showed us that they have been coming here for at least 200 years. And Alien versus Predator even further then that. And that they once had respect for humans. And Predators showed that there’s a larger race of Predators that kidnaps and hunts humans and the smaller Predators on another planet. Connecting those 4 movies is simple. The smaller Predator kidnaps the two men that defeated there kind in the jungle and the city. And the girl that helped them defeat the Alien. They all then reunite with the two who was still on that planet . That would be a great story line and it’s keeping these movies in line with one another. I hope there coming out with one real soon
Predator 4 should be about all of the survivors from the previous movies. Using Arnold Schwarzenegger & Danny Glover in Predator 1&2 , Sannaa Lathan in Alien vs Predator and Adrien Brody & Alice Braga in Predators. In the first 2 movies humans killed them. The other 2 movies humans helped the Predators. By killing the Alien and the larger and different race of Predator. They need connect these 4 four movies where the all the survivors are helping the smaller race of Predators fight the larger race or all the survivors are brought together for one big show down . It would be a much better storyline. All 4 of those movies can start a new story line going in opposite directions. They need to bring them back together . Because that will keep your audience coming back
I love these movies, i am really iterested in the science part. Maybe one that does a backstory on why the Aliens were created back to Prometheus and then how the Predators became so civilized are they warring with the “Egineers” of us! Then the evolution of the Aliens! Um im carried away too many questions and stories i want to see finished!!! Plus it dances on the fringe of there being mutlie universes or a really long time gap, i dunno do something!!!!

I just want them to continue making predator movies..NOT REBOOTS. No one could ever be Arnold Schwarzenegger or Danny Glover but it’d be awesome to finish off on the last predator movie where they left off and the humans were stranded I’ve been watching these movies since I was a little girl. I would love to see a female predator like the one on my fb page. Also to have again an alliance between a human and predator to defeat a common enemy. Perhaps to try and defeat a predator criminal(s). I’m not sure about the location though. Perhaps on an outpost somewhere in the galaxy.

you have to find a way of getting to the alien predator home worlds and get a cast together that look like they belong take it back to bare bones and make it an 18, but that reduces the audience size and will have a knock on effect on box office takings, its all about the money these days over the substance, or do it from an alien predator point of view focus on them for change,just an idea different from the same old rehash we have all seen.

If we remember , near the end of ” Predator 2 ” Harrigan scewers his opponent , all the Predators de-cloke, you can see different types of ” Predators short , Tall , different skin patterns , I am mentioning this due to ” Rodriguez: Predators with the so called Super “Predator ” . Some fans call this outing a re-boot ,one characters ( The Attractive one ) brings up the incident in 1987. I know other members have commented on this great franchise. The Predator is so advanced in some ways more so than ” Engineers , Which is why they like to hunt , I counting on a bonafide sequel .

I have always wanted to see a story about the Predators back story. Their history, their home planet, where they reside in the universe, etc.
It would be a nightmare to make. A language would have to be created or perhaps a deep space research team of humans could crash land on their home planet.
Anyway, this is something I hope they one day dive in to.

Why not to make a movie just about predators? No humans. Maybe just as prey. In that case they could introduce predators code, cast system, technology or even ageing. All action and story. Not many words. They could communicate in unknown language not known to men. This could add some extra depth to the movie. What is their connection to “engineers”? Are they created by them or they just evolved and how? Maybe predators are “engineers” outcasts who mutated? Possibilities are endless. One more thing. People can’t attack predators home world. We don’t have so advanced technology. Predators are far more advanced than we are. That is why they hunt. To collect trophys.
What they should do is have a spaceship crash land on earth. The spaceship would have Brody’s character in it along with the girl from predators. They tell the UN that a race of aliens is about to attack. The UN decides to put together a counter offensive, which involves arnie and the guy from the second one. They take the war to the predators by fixing up the spaceship. It would end with the predator fleet being destroyed before it entered the solar system. Then you would have a Arnie voice over while you showed life on earth continuing as normal. “They won’t ever know, and that will make them safe, and that’s why we died.”

Why can’t story be like this. Group of elite military go to a forest to hunt aliens. Unknowingly that they being fallowed by predators in order to help the humans.
Set the new movie in the Middle East. The Predator is going after ISIS soldiers. Weyland sends a group of mercenaries to capture the Predator and /or predator tech before somebody in ISIS/other terrorists group does. The team is lead by Dutch played by either Arnold or Dwayne. When the group is successful in capturing the Predator, they are surrounded by the Predator’s clan and taken onboard their ship to return to their home world…..sequel
I say bad blood, or worlds war, predator vs predator throw in some aliens as hunting dogs on leashes, and a few humans caught in it all. a predator gets killed and his captive aliens get free and want revenge. meanwhile bad blood predator kinda like a trophy collecting mad max predator teams up with a human maybe, but he lives at the end. seams bad ass to me. lol
The aliens reproduction could go out of control by invading earth and The Predators would need to team up with a kind of expendables team of Humans. Schwartz, Stalone … Etc
There was a story line released for predator 3 yrs ago it said Dutch would meet up Danny Glover and that the future gives them the technology to fly to the predator planet and fight them all the movie of course Said it would return to earth were Dutch and Glover are followed by the predators to earth were the predators invade and attempt to take over earth there have even been ideas to tie in the alien movies to this by having the predators use the aliens as slaves to help them take over earth non of this has been confirmed but it would be nice to tie the aliens in to predator 3 since the avp movies at best were ok of course if the predators use the aliens the aliens of course would turn on the predators forcing the predators to make a choice leave earth to the aliens or band together with the humans to fight off the aleins.
Firstly, set the film during an older period. WW1, WW2 etc.
The film could have a very likeable character like Dutch was. However, unlike every other film… leave no survivors. Even the lead character. Kill them all off. That way it would show just how powerful and advanced a Predator is. There are never any movies where the ‘bad guys’ prevail.
make a movie that shows predators from THEIR POINT OF VIEW DUMMIES. enough of them being the ANTAGONIST SCARY MONSTERS. they are an INTELLIGENT RACE. SHOW THEY”RE REASONING, RITUALS, LANGUAGE, “THOUGHTS” it will relate them to us in a way that will give us a love for the franchise. IF YOU HAVE READ THE AVP books you CAN SEE WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. it will leave soo much open for detail such as different clans point of views, the predator councils, their territories, their heritage and show fans that dont really understand the super predators WHY THEY ARE HUNTING THE CLASSICS. WTF coming up with something someone will love is NOT THAT HARD there is SOOO MUCH OPPURTUNITY. WE HAVE SEEN ENOUGH OF THEM BEING THE ANTAGONIST MONSTER. an idea would be a predator on the predator home world was too hell bent on killing and didn’t follow the rules set by the elders. Resulting in him not getting his weapons and armour. So he kills the elder and makes a run for it.
Then the other predators are sent to hunt him down. But he picks them off one by one without their weapons and technology. Like he could do the mud trick and make spears out of trees and stuff.
So it’s predator hunting down a crazy predator. People have been in enough movie. Why not make a predator movie with just the predators. And they won’t have to hold back because they will be against the same skilled opponents.
If they do make another movie. They better do it right. The predators movie was shit. That took the predator. The star of the movie. Tied him up for nearly the whole movie. When he finally got down. He was killed 1 minute later by some ant faced predator. Then that wanna be predator got killed by some big nosed, weak ass fuck.
It’s was the biggest insult to all predator fans. It was fucken stupid.
But I did like the yakuza vs predator fight. Because it shows that they want to improve their fighting skills. Not just kill everything.
So they better make up for they done to the predator in the predators movie.

what about a story that takes place a few years after avp requiem where the humans have worked out how to use and power/reload the predators gun that in turn sends of a signal to the predator home world they then send one or two predators to earth to retrieve it and any other technology of there’s and to destroy all evidence of there existence that way they can have dutch from predator 1 and harrigan from predator 2 in the story and alexa woods from avp 1 because she was given the spear a piece of there technology and it was given to her by the predator elder because she killed a xenomorph how about that as a starting point for a story
Watch predator dark ages if you wanna see people fight predator in old times but im shure a movie with colonial marines fighting predators, or fighting super predators

But not old like elders I think it should be on a vet predator hunting down a bad blood predator if you don’t know what bad blood press stirs are look em up. I say the bad blood is killing a team of African milita fighting in a civil war in the Congo the bad blood is hunting both sides and then the vet comes and is their only for the bad blood. They can show the two African sides fighting being picked off but don’t give them a lead role keep them as co stars, focus on the two predators hunting like a chess match humans in the middle. And show the vet predator fighting honorably and have the bad blood fighting dirty and hunting the humans out of blood lust not for the hunt. That would be a bomb movie if they had a kick ass script and a good director and put the humans secondary that would be puting predator back on the map. We love predator since its a thriller suspense movie all about the hunt. The reason the new movies suck is because it’s just fake scifi predator weapons and throughout action, no suspense, no thrills. Once again that’s my opinion and please comment on what u think of my idea and I would love to here yours.
I say what the predator movies need is to go back to the original. Critics and Fans obviously hate the new flashy weapons alien planets and the absolutely terrible idea of multiple predators. I know they have clans but no one wants to see that it makes the predators easier to kill obviously since they need to end it with a one on one battle. I believe they should incorporate more of the mythology in it which is actually amazing and truly focus on the hunt which is the reason the predator is their. Also just my opinions and I’m all ears to here others thoughts
I for one had enough with Predators chasing down humans, and the humans doing the mud trick and out smart the smart hunter and killing it so the film could end story line up.
I would like to see Super predators killing the hunter predators war, and humans getting involved in it by somehow, since without humans, the movie wouldn’t sell out. I dont want to see humans to watch movie, but some people will not.
Or as “Berserker” below me commented, would like to see a galatic war with the predators and when the predators are loosing to the brink of extinction the super predators come into play and fight the enermies off? (humans gets involved in this one too, maybe the hunter predators beam them up for the fight? )
I dont care, but we need a movie for 2016 and a kick ass game for PC/xbox/ps4 2017
If you guys don’t do a sequel to Predators with Adrien Brody….you guys are flat missing the boat…come on now….left on a new world trying to get back to Earth…that works..Brody was great in the movie..new Predators coming to stop them…stealing a ship??? how to fly it???…on and on……Nobody really wants to see another reboot of the first Predator……..go with the flow…the whole character is captivating….what about a movie where the Predator is the hero on some far off world……why not?…..or…..why not drop Dutch and Harrigan on the same world with Brody..let them find a way off…….Now…that would bring in the audience………….
I think that making a film where there is a serious alien infestation on the predator world is a good ideea. The predators start recruting the best inteligent specimens they encountered ( the dutch as for an example), and start defending theire homeland. Hope it was a good ideea. Why don’t you set predator in early days of history. There is already a one low budget movie being made, and based on teaser, it could be a really cool movie. Knights in all days, with their belief system in witches, devil etc confronting predator. Or why not that time from the wild west, where we already have a connection to the story.I wouldn’t introduce another alien. That would ruin the character of a predator itself. It carries all of the elements of ancient human fear. Intelligent, invisible, cruel, powerful creature hunting you. Forest brings another archetype , and perfect environment for that. I think that that is the point of the predator movie.
No Arnie!! He is Old, but Not obsolete, but too old for a Dutch. Ok, look at the Predator Lore, 1. the South American local said they come only when its HOT, “day finds theirs mens sometines wizout theirs skins”..ok a clue they only like hot, they are probably from a hot humid planet. 2. They drop lone warriors in a landing pod, from their mother ship, that then orbits Earth or flys to the Moon for cheese or whatever. Presumably picking the victor up via a shuttle craft or some mothership landing. 3. P2 and AVP show they Do land their ships on Earth. 4. AVP tells us the Warriors are Young guys who go thru this initiation, so the P1 was a young Predator, they hunt and succeed like many Human tribes. 5. AVPreq showed Humans captured Predator tech, not sure how that would work out. 6. They bleed, they die, they are hunters, they admire winners and bravery (P1 and AVP), they have loyalty (AVP) and rituals (AVP). They have not been shown to be treacherous, or disloyal, and seem ?? to have some?? admiration for Humans, if only as we do for cats and dogs…..some people kill and eat cats and dogs :). They like Trophys of hunts…like humans.
OK develop a movie around those laws/lore, the standards of the PRedator race must not change. But I think it is time to know more about them and Maybe, they may find themselves under some sort of “threat” or attack by some advanced creature who has been observing them but not involved……and somehow the humans get involved….either decieved by the other race (greys??) that the Predators are intent on invasion of Earth or some other story line…Involve the Humans, but still as a lowly animal doing its best to survive. <ore information on the Predator would be interesting, touched on in AVP req with a little of their home? or some outpost. Are they all around the Galaxy….Predators suggest yes. Then they have obviously encountered other similarly tech creatures, presumably……..can the Predators be threatened by others? Is that why they train their young warriors? are they in a 10,000 parsec war? Do they know the "Engineers" who made the Aliens. Are they secretly protecting the Earth…..For their own purpose of course….Do they relate to Whales and Dolphins? Just thru that in…..OK smart story tellers, there is some meat, go make a cow……..
