In early February Creative Assembly invited AvPGalaxy down to their studios in Horsham, England to get a hands-on with Alien...
It seems there’s another new licensed Aliens game making its way to arcades and it’s called Aliens Armageddon from Play Mechanix...
We are happy to announce that AvPGalaxy will be doing an Q&A with Creative Assembly very soon about the recently...
The Alien vs. Predator Miniatures Game Kickstarter campaign is coming to a close – after 3 weeks of ups and downs, the campaign is finishing with some massive numbers – so much so that Prodos games has had to design some new last minute stretch goals, and they are truly outstanding!
As of this writing, the campaign is only a few thousand pounds away from the first official models we’ve (to my knowledge) ever had of the Weyland-Yutani “Dog Catcher” Commandos from the end of Alien 3, and the extra map tiles for the Predator Ship have already been unlocked, along with the massive, 100% in-scale Alien Queen, not to mention the Crusher from Aliens: Colonial Marines.
The campaign ends at midnight GMT, which is just a few hours away now – be sure and get your pledges added before you miss out!
The AvP Miniature Kickstarter has been online for nearly 2 weeks and they have been released more previews to tease their upcoming release. To go along with their previews the guys at Prodos Games have hosted their first video Q&A:
In this they show their prototype clear material for the cloaked Predators, the Praetorian, confirm the Power-Loader amongst other things. Be sure to watch it. They will also be hosting more Q&A sessions over the next few weeks.
They are also hosting an open day gaming session for all their Kickstarter pledgers – this takes place on Saturday. I’ll be attending so expect an article next week. If you haven’t already, take a look at the Kickstarter page and get pledging!
Moosh, one of the people behind the drive to create further content for Aliens: Colonial Marines, recently interviewed Dave Flamburis formerly of Demiurge Studios, the team responsible for the Bug Hunt add-on:
“Without passionate fans and player-advocates like you, Melissa, there is no market. This is why we do what we do and, more important, who we do it for. It’s a win win. When you think about it, passionate players and passionate developers are one and the same. We’re all parts of the same game. Same goes for working with Gearbox. They really trusted us and never stopped our momentum. That’s even more rare. I learned so much from them over the years. They’re super altruistic. More so than folks give them credit for, you know?”
We’ve recently been covering the upcoming miniature Alien vs Predator game from Prodos Games. Friday saw their Kickstarter page go online and they passed their initial goal of £35,000 within hours. They’re currently at just over £110,000 and as their funding climbs higher, pledger’s are receiving further benefits and more models are being unveiled:
“If successful this KS project will allows Prodos Games Ltd to produce the AvP The Hunt Begins Board Game (which will be produced in standard plastic 1 piece format for late 2014 release) in a bespoked and limited (to KS) fashion specifically for the model connoisseur and collector alike. We will utilize our Procast model making technique to make the high quality and detail multipose and official 28mm polyurethane miniatures of these seminal icons of screen and prose. As well as the cutting edge miniatures, the KS Exclusive AvP The Hunt Begins Gamers Collection Edition will be packaged in a deluxe KS-only box and include exclusive tokens and cards.
If we unlock the stretched goals, the KS project will also allow us to make faction specific themed objective markers as well as a Hardback version of the AvP Wargame Rulebook and speed up our production plans (by over 18 months) meaning we can produce miniatures of, for example, the Predalien, Alien Warriors and even potentially, cyborgs and colonial civilians, well ahead of schedule. In North and South America the KS Pledges will be distributed by CMON.”
By donating £75 then you will be effectively paying for a special KS version of the initial box release with lots of resin models in various poses. Many of the extra goodies have been unlocked with much more on the way! I’m breaking my Kickstarter virginity on this and I hope many of you will be joining me! The campaigns ends on the 28th of November. Get donating!!
Ridley Scott has recently commented on the status of the sequel to Prometheus. According to an interview with Empire Magazine:
“Prometheus 2 is written,” says Scott, but doesn’t indicate when it might start shooting. “I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015…”
“I thought I’d left science-fiction for too long, that I had better climb back in. Prometheus was a great experience for me. Chasing number two, we can start evolving the grand idea…”
A few weeks ago, the ALIEN director stated that Prometheus 2 “is being written right now” at a press conference (3:25) for his latest film, The Counselor.
I have just been speaking to one of the fantastic guys over at Prodos Games who has kindly provided us with some extra information regarding the upcoming Aliens vs Predator – The Miniature Game:
Prodos will also be releasing more information (including the price) via their Facebook page over the next 5 or 6 days so keep an eye out. Be sure to Like them and post any questions you have up there. Alternatively please post any questions or comment on our message boards and I’ll be sure to relay them onto Prodos.
Prodos will also be hosting a special event to launch Warzone Resurrection. Those interested in the upcoming AvP game may find this interesting to get a chance to meet the guys over at Prodos, get a feel for their products and the gameplay system AvP will be using.
Not long ago we posted about an upcoming Aliens Deck Building Game. I was excited then! Now we’re getting images coming through for an Aliens vs Predator miniature tabletop game! Check eet out! Ultimate badass!
The possibility of the an upcoming AvP miniatures game was posted on our boards earlier this month. Yesterday, Prodos Games created an official Facebook page which included numerous WIP pictures of their various models.
Of course, these are only WIP images at the minute but it’s all very exciting for Aliens/Predator tabletop gaming at the minute. Keep watching this space for more information.
“The next video game in the world of Aliens will star the daughter of superstar space officer Ellen Ripley, according to a Kotaku source. The game is called Alien: Isolation, and we hear it will be on both current- and next-gen consoles next year.”
“The protagonist of Alien: Isolation is Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, (…) You, as Amanda, spend most if not all of the game on a single space station, according to our source. There’s only one alien for “most” of the game, our source said; you’ll mostly be shooting through “clones and soldiers.” Vents, lockers, and melee weapons are a big part of Isolation, our source said, and the game is heavily inspired by the first Alien movie.“
Earlier this year we reported that Dark Horse would be launching a Prometheus comic series. Over the past several days news has been emerging that Dark Horse would also be launching new Alien, Predator and versus series. However, according to this io9 article Dark Horse intends to reboot the comic franchise and bridge all four franchises into a single continuity:
“The level of collaboration here between the writers is pretty phenomenal, actually. Chris, Paul, and Joshua are all friends of mine who I hang out with on a regular basis, but it was an interesting experience getting to sit together in one room with them and hash out the intricacies of these various characters and their individual stories, and how they would sync up and interact. When Scott brought me onboard, he described it as a “writer’s room,” which is something that I hadn’t really been a part of before.”
The io9 article includes brief interviews with writers of all four series and includes several pieces of concept art by the series artists. I for one am very interested in this news. A solid EU continuity is something that the Aliens/Predator franchise just don’t have. I’m excited to see where this goes.
Some of you may remember the Aliens Predator CCG, a collectible card game that was released over a decade ago. That game lasted 2 sets and was unfortunately cancelled. Since then, Alien hasn’t had a presence in the world of table-top card gaming. That time is now over:
“Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game is a fully cooperative game with original art. While based on the Marvel superheroes version of Legendary, the two games will be compatible but cannot be fully integrated. Legendary Encounters is a deck-building game in the same family as Legendary, but now players must cooperate in order to survive against hordes of aliens. Players take turns recruiting cards for their deck from a central selection in order to improve their deck and defeat enemy cards that are added to the central game board.”
