They were mostly the same. A few details changed, like the smartguns originally being described as laser weapons, with the batteries handed over in the film being the power packs for 'ammunition', as opposed to just powering the servos and stuff. The comic had a number of letters sent in from readers complaining that they weren't convinced, which is probably why that was changed.
