I know this requires some re-writes off course, but seeing as some were somewhat unsatisfied with the way the Xenomorph/Protomorph was handled in Covenant

Would you have prefered to see the Deacon species we got hinted at at the end of Prometheus do the things the Xeno did?

That way you get rid of the 'David created THE Alien' thing and its more beastial, animalistic behavior wouldn't feel out of place with Giger's design, compared the original creepy Serial Stalker

Only if the Deacon was better handled in Prometheus. The Neo was the creature that could/should have replaced the Xeno. There was no need for the Xeno yet.

Could have even had all sorts of creature show up as the experiments instead of just the plane jane Xeno.

But it wasn't THE XENO, it was a proto-xeno.

You think anybody but the 50 of us on here got that?

And what exactly is the difference between these two?

What exactly is the difference between the Xeno, Proto-Xeno, Deacon and Neo?

It's the same damn thing reskinned, only the skins keep getting worse.

As far as I'm concerned, they're the cinematic equivalent of this:

I liked the Neo design I must admit, it was creepy, especially if we'd got more of that suit version. The Deacon was too AVP. Maybe the fully grown Deacon might have been cool.

He could have gave us a few monsters running around then have David choke up the Alien at the end for the teaser. Feels like he went for the big reveal too early to me and fell totally flat. Even if he busts out the Giger model in the third one I don't think it'll have the same impact as if it was the very first time and I doubt anybody that's a non Alien fan would even notice.

While I get your point I think it's a wasted oppurtunity to say all Morphs act the same. I didn't mind seeing the Neomorph being a lot more angry-catlike in its early stages. They might be related to the same species but they're different in terms that Rottweilers and pugs are different.

But seeing as the supossed 'Proto'morph and the Xenomorph look EXACTLY alike it DID feel a lot more jarring.
Sure it was utilized better than the Xeno's from Aliens, but compared the original Big Chap which Ridley also put on screen, it feels more like cheap ravaging monster. Unstead of the surreal alien stalker we got.

Making it either a Deacon and yes, even a Neomorph might have helped.

The Deacon imo would not be a good fit for "Covenant". As shown (or hinted) in "Prometheus" the Deacon has a life cycle either involving a human egg+human sperm+black goo (Shaw) or probably similar ingredients with Engineer eggs/sperm/black goo.

- "Covenant" was not about the Engineers and them creating Deacons.
- David only had Shaw's eggs and no living male human/Engineer sperm (just dead Engineer bodies).

* The weapon from the Engineers in "Covenant" was the Neomorph. And it's a terrific monster imo showing more of the creativity of the Engineers in how to wipe out animal life on planets.
- I would have been fine with the Neomorph being the main monster throughout the rest of "Covenant"; with David's Xenomorph experiments just being shown/mentioned in passing (as an idea for the future) with maybe just a facehugger getting out of control and attacking (like in "Aliens").

I can't agree. Animalistic behavior imo does not feel out of place with Giger's designs.
Because the original "Alien" is not the only Alien film which Giger worked on.

- Giger did designs for "Alien 3".
- In that movie the Xenomorph emerged from an animal (either a dog or an Ox, depending on the cut).
The young Xenomorph walks kind of like a dog.
- With "A3", Ripley says.

QuoteRipley: It's like a lion. Sticks close to the zebras.

- Giger was involved with a movie project where a Xenomorph comes from an animal, acts like an animal and is described as an animal.
* Animal behavior is in the range of what Giger conceived.

Shit, the beast in Covenant should have been born from the Deacon. Be nice if there was a little continuity between the creatures.

It's an evolution.

The Deacon, Neomorph and Protomorph are proto forms of the xenomorph.

Not normal evolution, though.

For my personal taste, the best xeno-like creature of this prequel series is the Neomorph. But beyond that, I would have preferred something new and different. More like a spin-off, and before the premiere of Prometheus, I was really expecting more from the Hammerpede creature (through evolution, mutation, metamorphosis, whatever).

A totaly waste, and I was really disappointed. In fact, Ridley said: "Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well".

Now back on topic, my answer is Hell, No! Unless they bring something really new, I'm happy with the Neomorph and I prefer the Xenomorph (maybe handled in a better way of course).

In addition, the Deacon could become a problem for Scott and his new conception of the Xenomorph origins, since the parasitic life cycle was already there from the beginning.

I would have proffered the film focused on the Neomorphs throughout rather than shoehorn the Aliens in. Maybe try to expand them a little more.
