I know this requires some re-writes off course, but seeing as some were somewhat unsatisfied with the way the Xenomorph/Protomorph was handled in Covenant
Would you have prefered to see the Deacon species we got hinted at at the end of Prometheus do the things the Xeno did?
The Deacon imo would not be a good fit for "Covenant". As shown (or hinted) in "Prometheus" the Deacon has a life cycle either involving a human egg+human sperm+black goo (Shaw) or probably similar ingredients with Engineer eggs/sperm/black goo.
- "Covenant" was not about the Engineers and them creating Deacons.
- David only had Shaw's eggs and no living male human/Engineer sperm (just dead Engineer bodies).
* The weapon from the Engineers in "Covenant" was the Neomorph. And it's a terrific monster imo showing more of the creativity of the Engineers in how to wipe out animal life on planets.
- I would have been fine with the Neomorph being the main monster throughout the rest of "Covenant"; with David's Xenomorph experiments just being shown/mentioned in passing (as an idea for the future) with maybe just a facehugger getting out of control and attacking (like in "Aliens").
Quote from: Berend on Nov 18, 2017, 07:41:45 AMThat way you get rid of the 'David created THE Alien' thing and its more beastial, animalistic behavior wouldn't feel out of place with Giger's design, compared the original creepy Serial Stalker
I can't agree. Animalistic behavior imo does not feel out of place with Giger's designs.
Because the original "Alien" is not the only Alien film which Giger worked on.
- Giger did designs for "Alien 3".
- In that movie the Xenomorph emerged from an animal (either a dog or an Ox, depending on the cut).
The young Xenomorph walks kind of like a dog.
- With "A3", Ripley says.
QuoteRipley: It's like a lion. Sticks close to the zebras.
- Giger was involved with a movie project where a Xenomorph comes from an animal, acts like an animal and is described as an animal.
* Animal behavior is in the range of what Giger conceived.
