According to this article, not many people actually finished Alien: Isolation, at least on PS4.

Makes me kinda sad that a game comes along that actually offers an exciting challenge and apparently most people can't put the effort in to beat it. Anyone else remember when it took skill and perseverance to beat video games?

Wow. All it takes is to get into the right mindset and you're sorted.

I'm curious to see the other percentages now.

Early reviews definitely put me off. I am a very (very, very) casual gamer. The idea that I'd keep dying and have to back and retread the same steps over and over again made me realise that I wasn't going to spend 30+ quid on something that would frustrate me.

I understand that the game has now been patched to have a fcktard level for the likes of me that has regular save points.

Don't get me wrong - I understand for the dedicated gamer, the challenge is all part of the atmosphere of the game and makes it an even more immersive experience. But if I had bought it hot off the shelves, I would have got bored in a few hours and binned it. Simply because there's a very thin line between "challenging" and "frustrating." It might be an age thing - I turned 44 last week and I just don't want to waste a vast  amount of time on a game. Not when there's free porn out there.

I like "Easy" levels - really, for people that don't play games very often, "Easy" is challenging enough. I now play A:CM on (I think) Soldier. Or Hardened. I can't remember which, but that's only cos I play it loads.

That's fair enough, but I'd imagine casual gamers like yourself account for a fairly small percentage of the number of people who bought Isolation. I'm surprised the percentage finishing it is so comparatively tiny.

Corporal Hicks

It's not that hard if you play it right. It's only hard for the COD generation.

It is only a single platform. I'm sure it's not that low over all.

vikingr

Maybe they just saw the alien and stopped playing out of fear?  ;D

Well I don't know how trophies are calculated. Is that percentage taken overall against all people who own a PS4, or just against those that have played the game at least once and therefore have the trophy list on their system?

I imagine it's the former, but I don't really know.

Like you say, I'd be interested in seeing the other numbers.

Huh, interesting. I never thought it would've been that high.

Agreed, though I would think some of those people were fans of the films rather than gamers - I only have the AvP and A:CM games because I'm a fan of the films (I don't have CoD or anything like that).

Indeed. I always try to make sure I finish a game. I've not gone and spent my money for nothing.

Yep - is the oldsters. And, I was thinking as I was reading, I have wasted an inordinate amount of time on DCUO with my daughter, and then they said "multiplayer is taking over".

Russ, I'm 43 and a casual gamer like you (a couple hours every other night MAX). I beat Isolation on Easy mode and didn't die too often, but was scared the entire time. Perfect 'Alien' experience, in my opinion.

Now replaying on Hard, and I'm actually shouting in fear sometimes.  :D

Chris!(($$))!

I can imagine that.

I got the game around Christmas time (my family knows I LOVE the ALIEN franchise) and I immediately started it up on the hardest available difficulty and played a few hours then stopped playing for a few weeks because of work and college and because it was rather tough. A few weeks later I resumed playing and enjoyed the challenge as well as the game itself.

I'm not sure how much more challenging the game scales with difficulty but I could understand if more casual players became frustrated.

Play in hard mode, Clemens. It will scare your pants off. I replayed on normal to get the achievement where you don't kill any humans, but strangely didn't get it. Anyway, the game still scared me at times, even on a replay.

Yep, I'm into hard mode now. Quite the eye-opener when you discover that in Hard mode, the Alien will come into the air shafts to find you!  :o
