Robots are burned as hell with the Transformers movies. A more organic look makes it stand out and not to feel like a repetition, also dinosaur-robot-alien technorganic hybrid makes more sense than just having robots in the shape of dinosaurs.

Aesthetics are to taste, I guess. Personally, I like the bulkier look. Most of the suit actors were surprisingly spry for something that looked so cumbersome. Maybe you'd prefer something like Jungle Fury, where the Zords were a lot sleeker and agile.

Granted, it's still bulkier than you'd like.

Most or at least 90% of the reactions I've seen are very positive. Not saying the movie will necessarily be good, but it will harvest a lot of people's dollars.
