Courtesy Pulser over at the GBX forums, Kevin Riepl's A:CM soundtrack is available for download.

Only for a limited time apparently.

I asked Kevln Riepl via twitter about a release of the soundtrack

"that sir is a big question mark at this point. I have no answer. I know the chances r now slim. :-/"

He said that huh? Wow, poor guy knows a game he worked so hard on is crap. I bet when he was done playing it, he sat back and said, "Damn, wtf was that. At least I got paid"

Thanks for the links

I actually feel sorry for him, the score was top notch.

Valaquen

I agree. He did great work.

Yeah, the music was great in the game. Very much the same style as we hear in the movie(s).

A lot of people dug the soundtrack and think it's one of the game's (few) strong points.

I, however, did not like it at all. It just felt generic..it just kind of plays in the background and never really adds anything to the game...it's just there as a typical video game ost..doesn't add to tension, suspense, or anything. Just background stuff you don't pay any attention to. Didn't stand out to me.

And i really wasn't a fan of it mostly using Jerry Goldsmith's theme from Alien and mixing it in with everything..first off, this is Aliens...not Alien. But it just sounded dodgy to hear it go into the Alien theme and then back out... And even the few times it went with Horner's Aliens score (which the only time I remember is hearing bits of "Futile Escape" in the first level), it didn't add anything there either.

Loved the sound effects but not the soundtrack. Could have been a lot better. A very lame score which homages Goldsmith's Alien theme in a very boring way.

I consider Bryan Tyler's score for AVP:R, to be superior at homaging the Alien and Predator films music in a very kick-ass way. He would have been great here, but he's better off doing the score to superior games like Far Cry 3 and Modern Warfare 3.

Not sure if any tracks are missing but you can extract the OST from the game files:

\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\CookedPCConsole\Audio_Streaming.pckl

To extract the files yourself:

QuoteYou can use "Extractor" from http://www.box.net/shared/0f0hfp8mz2 , and extract all of the .wav files from that package. Download ww2ogg from http://hcs64.com/vgm_ripping.html and put ww2ogg.exe and packed_codebooks_aoTuV_603.bin in the same place that you extracted the wav files.

Open a command prompt and go to wherever you extracted them. The following shell command will convert everything to .ogg:

FOR /F "tokens=*" %G IN ('DIR /B *.wav') DO ww2ogg.exe "%G" --pcb packed_codebooks_aoTuV_603.bin

then download: http://yirkha.fud.cz/progs/foobar2000/revorb.exe

and run: FOR /F "tokens=*" %G IN ('DIR /B *.ogg') DO revorb.exe "%G"

All he did was rip motifs straight out of the older films, use some different instruments in some instances, then threw in Holst's Mars, the Bringer of War for good measure. :-\

I agree. Although in some places it sounded more like a Predator soundtrack.

I wish there was a soundtrack on youtube so I could put it on my I-pod.

I whole heartedly agree with you. The music for this game could have been so much more.

Sent you a PM. Enjoy it!

Space Sweeper

I think that if this experience hasn't turned him off (seeing as Gearbox didn't hold up their end of the quality scale), it would be awesome if Riepl scored any future Alien(s)/AvP games. He knows the sweetspot and he knows it well.

Neon_Knight

I must confess, while the soundtrack was well executed, well recorded, and well placed, I thought it was sub-par music.  Am I the only one who noticed that almost every track was almost entirely derivative of Horner's score and Goldsmith's score? The main titles is just a re-scoring of Goldsmith's principle Alien theme, almost all of the incidental action music is based very closely on Horner's action music from Aliens. Sure, it's well done and it's effective, but it is just re-writing music that already exists. And worst of all, it's *not as good*. It's very similar, but there's no way it matches the quality of composition and orchestration found in the original films. I was kind of hoping for a *new* score that takes elements of existing themes and motives and develops them into new directions. That's just my conclusion here.
