Information about Giger art in Prometheu...
« on: Jul 06, 2012, 06:24:54 PM »
Hello there, i have been a member of this site for a long time now and this is my first post ! I hope you enjoy it ! Recently i send an e-mail to Les Barany (Giger's Agent) and ask him about Giger's involment in Prometheus..

This is the answer:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Guido,

The simple answer is, Mr. Giger made design drawings for Prometheus and fans who are intimately familiar with his work will recognize how much of it was used in the film. If you are still not certain, you will know when the Blu-Ray is released. We were told his drawings will be on it.
In the meantime, none of his drawings were printed in the book that was just released with the art from Prometheus.

Les Barany

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I shared this information with you because i think you will like to know this !

I hope you like my post !

If this was old news, sorry about that !

Thanks for the info!
I really hope the drawings will be on the home release.

I wonder if Giger will release them in some printed form by himself someday.

I'd say I am intimately familiar with his work and I don't recognize much if any at all that wasn't designed by Giger after 1979.

everyone on this forum should be able to tell the difference between true Giger and faux Giger. There was no true Giger in the movie, obv. And obviously whatever drawings were used were not seen and are on that blu-ray

So, from this am I correct in thinking none of Giger's designs were actually used, but he did submit drawings?

And Giger did in fact NOT paint the murals?

You my friend would have your testimony thrown out of court for conjecture.

Putz.  obv.

And you are obviously someone who will not be posting here by then to admit said dopey-ness

You're absolutely right -- I am just so sick of the assumptions people are all making here.

It's exhausting -- if the haters can hijack every thread -- especially with misinformation -- then they deserve to get it thrown back at them sooner or later

Indeed. Personally, I thought xii22loop's comment about "faux Giger" was hugely insulting to the talented artists who DID work on Prometheus, and who almost certainly were not trying to copy Giger, but rather to fulfill whatever challenge they had been set.

Wonder if those napkins will be hard to scan...

On a side note i find quite funny to see that the most zealous fanboys who were busting my balls when i said Giger's work will not make it on screen and screamed that the pictures we saw at the time were pure Giger and that ONLY giger can do justice to that universe are now praising the copycats ^^
Fanboys you gotta love them...

Giger is all over Prometheus. The very look of the film is all because of his work and contributions on ALIEN. Maybe we didn't get any new work, but even the Engineers scream Giger. I don't understand what the fuss is all about.

Yes, Giger's designs ARE all over Prometheus, but NOT done by Giger, but RE-DESIGNED by others. I think THAT is what all the fuss is about.

This new information seems to confirm what I suspected all along. Scott/FOX have wanted to squeeze Giger out of the franchise so that they don't have to keep paying royalties for his original designs. NOT good karma!

I also recall Dan O'Bannon's wife had to fight FOX to keep her now dead husbands name in the credits too!

You must be a VERY, VERY stupid person! ::)

Without Giger we simply wouldn't HAVE an ALIEN franchise! It wouldn't exist! Without his original designs, pushed to Scott by O'Bannon, ALIEN would never have been what it was. THAT is absolout FACT, the fact that you don't seem to understand that simply amazes me. :o

Can we agree that Prometheus is Giger inspired?  ;)

There is probably an element of truth in what the other poster states. Scott is not going to hamstring his own movie by going with, what he believes to be, the wrong aesthetic. I know Scott (from interviews) stated that he wanted to move away from the more bio-mechanical look of Alien... so my assumption is that - 1) There was nothing in Giger's portfolio that made Scott reconsider his aesthetic. Or - 2) Giger didn't provide anything beyond his original designs/concept sketches that could be construed as an evolvement of (or deconstruction of) that particular aesthetic.

I personally would have liked to have seen a lot more original Giger type stuff in the landscape/temple and monster design... (although the engineers and engineer tech is clearly 'Giger' inspired) but I understand why Scott wanted to go in a slightly different direction.
