Maybe its easier for them just to model a few different head models and armor decals, rather than full Ripley model. Thats why they choose only male marines. Which body models are similar/the same as the ones already in the game.

But if you look at the box art for the game, there is clearly a female character displayed with the other three marines.  In fact, there are already a lot of things about her that resemble Vasquez from Aliens anyway.  I don't think it would be extremely difficult for GBX to at least give us Vasquez as downloadable content in the future.
