its not that it was overpowered, they just nerfed celtic at the last minute.
Celtic acted in-character. He was cocky, and he paid for it -- just like the Predators in the Predator films.
Yeah, Celtic died pretty much the same way the Predator in P1 and P2 did - he thought he'd wounded his prey, got all cocky, and got ruined for his overconfidence.
he took like 30 seconds to delicately take that knife out, then prepare a blow, then he laid in shock as grid kissed his brains. cocky or not, he lost his reflexes and his brutal aggressivity at the worst possible moment. i'm beggining to think all the predators in these movies have an hypoglycemia. they fight well for a while and then they just shit out of energy and get sloppy.

Well, he seems to lose all sense of urgency after trapping Grid with the net. Isn't that just like how the Requiem aliens "become floppy and useless" when they're meant to die?

No.  The Predator could've reasonably assumed the Alien was contained, but was wrong.

Why would he? The alien's acid had just wasted his wristblades and armour...
I also find it unlikely that he'd be unaware of the cutting ability of his net

There's that characteristic arrogance again.

The Aliens in AvP:Poo didn't go all floppy 'cos they were over confident.

Yeah, the Predators in all 3 Predator movies get overconfident and it generally costs them their lives. Celtic was just acting in-character.

It seems less like arrogance and more like stupidity.

The razor net contracts and shreds things. Guess what's going to happen once that net cuts into the alien? Same thing that happened to your wristblades and armour just now...you'd better hurry up and finish the job

If that didn't cross Celtic's mind, then frankly he was a borderline retard.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, he probably thought it'd kill the Alien before the acid freed it.

Perhaps, or maybe he thought the net couldn't cut into the xenomorph's hard exoskeleton
Either way, he'd be making a very reckless (and I would say stupid) assumption

Obviously.

It's what they do.

When they're not blowing holes in their own spaceships.

Point is, if you guys wanna go on about how xenomorphs look retarded in Requiem, it's only fair to acknowledge Celtic's stupidity

Not really since the stupidity has previous form and context.

Dopey Aliens kinda don't (except for the ones that walk onto spears).

I'm glad you're calling it "stupidity" now. It really is more than just "arrogance".

As for context, nah...
You can pass off Anytime and City Hunter as cocky. Celtic is more like the predator who blew a hole in his own ship.

Anytime stripped down instead of just finishing Dutch. Cocky? Sure. Probably also sadistic.
He avoided a trap to be crushed by a counterweight. I'd call that unlucky.

City Hunter chose to choke Danny Glover instead of killing him. Stupid? Not really, he was dealing with a soft human and had just recovered from multiple shotgun blasts.
He was fooled by Danny Glover's possum act. Not very careful of him, but sometimes a feint works

...and then we have Celtic, who had just seen his wristblades melt, his armour dissolve. He slowly walks over. The net is starting to slice in, acid blood is oozing out and smoking. No reaction, he just stands there...

Ehhh... the biggest difference between arrogance and stupidity is whether or not one actually survives the experience. :P

hmm I think the alien should be impervious to other aliens such as the blob and in fact, eat blobs for breakfast. The thing? Toilet paper. Oh and this weak to fire nonsense, just that, nonsense. The original alien should still be floating in space waiting to re-enter another worlds atmosphere to wreak havoc. Predators should be the ones on the run. Just some thoughts. :)

I don't see much difference between
1. Aliens being choked by Wolf, flailing about frantically
2. Celtic slowly strolling over to Grid and then striking a pose before being pounced

You guys are trying to draw the distinction that 1 is out of character but 2 is in character. I say we don't know whether 1 is in or out of character because we've never seen how aliens react to choking. We only see it this one time.

As has been mentioned, an alien does walk into a spear in AvP. It would appear that alien silliness isn't limited to Requiem

There IS a line between arrogance and stupidity.
If Mike Tyson dismisses me with such contempt that I manage to KO him with a lucky punch, that's him being arrogant

If I manage to daze Mike Tyson with a lucky punch but decide not to follow up immediately, that's me being stupid.

City Hunter is standing over a weak little human, apparenly wounded and helpless. Would it be idiotic for him to assume that the fight's over? Not really.

Celtic has just experienced the potency of alien acid. He knows that the net cuts, he knows that the acid corrodes. Would it be idiotic for him to assume the alien is contained? I would say yes.
