What was the reaction to Ghostwatch? I just looked it through, and it was obviously made up, and actually pretty bad ;)

People thought it was for real and were scared shitless. The BBC copped a hiding, and quite a few kids grew up thinking that ghosts exist because they saw them on telly.

Slightly off topic I guess, and probably mentioned before but I didn't see anything (so apologies if I missed it) but....

In ALIEN we had Ash who doesnt care for the humans

In ALIENS and ALIEN3 we had Bishop who wants to help the humans

In Alien Resurrection we had Call who wants to be more human.

So, in Prometheus could we have David who, perhaps inadvertently, becomes partly human???

Something I've never bothered to look into, but are the android names specifically thought out like that or did Jeunet just tag on Call because it would complete the ABC sequence and the fans have filled in the gaps?

In other words did the directors deliberately choose the alphabetical pattern, or did it just stem out of pure coincidence?

There are a lot of attention paid to directors, they don't write the script :)

Mutants. Aren't. Scary.

FFS

Agree 100 %

Also, interestingly the only scary/impressive/real, organic and fantastically believable alien creatures I've ever seen in any movie that I can think of are Giger's Alien, Giger's 'fossilized' (or not) SJ, the original facehugger and Stan Winston's Predator

So if we're going to see something(s) different, then Ridley and crew would have to present something pretty spectacular to even match the wow factor of those precedents.

LOTR? Star Wars? I could go on.

Alien creatures in LOTR ??

I specified 'ALIEN' creatures because I wasnt talking about things like the very impressive velociraptors in the Jurassic Park movies or the fantasy creatures and characters in LOTR or anything else of that ilk.

While I thought the whole LOTR trilogy was absolutely fantastic and exhibited some truly excellent CGI effects, none of the 'fantastical' creatures in those movies (apart from the giant spider maybe) looked as real, as impressive, organic and believable up close n personal, in the same way that the Alien, the original facehugger or the fossilized SJ did.

The only creatures in Star Wars that arent bipedal or highly humanoid, obvious men in suits or the obviously cartoonish CGI of episodes I,II and III, that are impressively real............ are Banthas...........and theyre not really scary

Most of the other alien creatures in the early Star Wars movies look to be composed of very obvious rubber and/or plastic or like extras from The Muppet Show and are pretty comical looking.....certainly not 'real' or organic looking....e.g. Admiral Akbar, Greedo and almost everything in the bar in Mos Eisley, Salacious Crumb (Gonzo in drag), Nien Nunb.....I could go on

I guess you could say the Ewoks look convincingly real, but theyre hardly impressive or scary

You said you could 'go on', but so far youve only come up with vague references and not named one ALIEN creature from another movie that is as up close n personal, real looking (NOT CGI), organic looking and impressively unsettling and believable as the examples I cited.

I challenge you to name JUST ONE !!

sci fi references
district 9 aliens.
that horrible bug thing that khan uses to control people in star trek.
the biosuits in id4.
darth sidious ( i think sidious is scary as f**k ).
the event horizon.
quite a few creatures and badguys from farscape.
bobba fett.
the custodian race from babylon 5 ( yaknow the huge things that are almost always shrouded in robes and breathing aperatus, cant remember the exact race name).
the horrible experiment in species that they have to burn in the lab.
hal.
the little trackers that the agents put in your belly button in the matrix.
the thing ( original, i have not seen the new one).
pinhead ( who im sure is some kind of interdimensional alien parisite).
the badguy from howard the duck :)

just a few i could think up...............if you like im sure i could do a very extensive search but just using sci fi kinda holds the point back a little.............i think that the original texas chainsaws leatherface made a pretty big impact upon america.....more so than alien.......or how about the original broadcasting of h.g wells war of the worlds over the radio when people all across the states commited suicide thinking it was a genuine event.
i even think that norman bates made a more cultural impact upon the western world than alien did lol

just some thoughts .........

Almost none of those references fit anything like the criteria I stated, so we're still in huge disagreement, and just leave it at that

(Boba Fett and Darth Maul though are 2 super cool creations)

...and, unlike WotW, there was an actual suicide attributed to it.

I'm led to believe the wheelchair GUY -(thanks LarsVader lol)- is born of Noomi Rapace after being infected somehow. It could be that the engineers, like the aliens, are also parasitical beings that need a host to come to life and complete their doing, and have also accelerated growing proccess like the aliens, though the engineers don't kill their hosts when they are born.

I'm starting to think that the aliens were first some sort of serpent beings, very similar in appearance to what the silver banana head of the first alien is, but of course bigger in size and no biomechanical body like the Giger-alien; then when one of the engineers, maybe the bad one,  mixed Its own DNA with the alien species DNA,  the once serpent-like beings the aliens were gained a biomechanical body structure, common to the engineers/jockeys. The rest would be up to the host, with the chestbuster stage being the step when the DNA of both jockey and alien creature is also mixed with the host DNA, with the outcome we have seen in the movies being an adult alien. I think chestbusters are also a farcry of the original form of the aliens.

Scott also said that each of the eggs aboard Derelict contained Jockey's DNA, so maybe this fusion between the two species was carried out entirely in the chair while the engineer was plugged to It, being those eggs produced by the very chair while the engineer is still plugged to It, laying them one by one in the chamber.
