Atleast Alien: Ressurection was liked way more then AVPR.

AVPR got largely negative reviews the main criticisms of the movie included bad acting, lame dialogue, cardboard characters, over-the-top gore, bad lighting, jumpy editing, and Rated-R for the sake of it.

Yeah, both films are terrible.

A:R is bad, but it at least has nostalgic value to me. Not to mention A:R has some good effects and a nice atmosphere to it while AVPR has nothing good to ofter other then a better Predator.

I liked johner and the concept of having protagonists who are not goody goody two-shoes. They were pirates just out to make money. I would say what i don;t like about it but that would be off topic. This is way better that AVPR.

Comparing Alien: Ressurection to AVPR is too harsh.

Honestly, Resurrection bores the hell out of me. I dislike it more than AVP:R, which says quite a lot. But what can I say is good about Rez? The animatronic Aliens were well done, the film had mediocore pacing and the brief action scenes were salvagable. I don't like the comedic overtones, the chemistry between Ripley and Call, the Aliens design and the Newborn.

Not really, while others are welcome to their own opinions, my opinion is and what i think the general public thinks is that AVPR was  way worse. Reviews speak for themselves too.

AVPR had bad acting, bad lighting, no character development, cardboard characters, carbon copy characters (both are  "too dumb to live" ) bad dialogue (the government doesn't lie to people!) i guess the latter was supposed to be a joke by brothers but it kind got taken at face value as stupidity and not last and not least, it screwed up the life cycle big time, at least in A:R it has the excuse (good or bad) that the newborn and well all the aliens was down to mutation from the genetic crossing.

While the cloning story of A:R was cheesy and a few other problems, it was sort of entertaining, it was watchable and funny at times, plus they had decent actors, the great signourney weaver, ron pearlman, michael wincott etc
while i would rank A:R as least best film, i find it had nice pacing and it had some good points. The film was too far-fetched for me to like it better than alien 3 though.

Having Weaver in it automatically makes A:R better than AVP:R. Besides that, there are lot of concepts in A:R that I like a great deal, but some were poorly executed and the creature design was a shitstain on the work initiated by Mr. Giger. On the other hand, literally the ONLY redeeming thing in AVP:R was Wolf's badassery and most of the time it's too dark to see what he is doing   >:(.

Was I the only one who disliked Winona's acting in A:R? She is one of the reasons why I didn't like the 1992 Dracula film that much since her acting is so dry and flat. She is like a female version of Chris O'Donnell.

Things that I liked about A:R:
- The atmosphere.
- The failed clones scene.
- The behavior of the Aliens (not counting the Queen or the Newborn).
- Vriess, Christie, Elgyn and Hillard.
- Ripley 8's escape from her cell.
- The design of the Betty.

For a long time I thought she was miscast.  In recent years though I've reassessed her performance and quite like it now.

The feel, and atmosphere of the film was really well done, the science gone mad, and futuristic industrial (brown, brown everywhere!!) look, amazing. The real effects were really good, the looks of the xenos, was great, very slimy. I enjoyed the time passing montage. The characters were pretty good as well.

As for the Xenos themselves, the intelligence, three jointed legs, gracefulness, ability to spit acid, and the sounds they made in RES were awesome.

Not the best film, but still very good.

Most of this is born out of earlier films.
