PlanetAvP movie specialist Gareth Von Kallenbach, has received word from Fox that the press screener for Alien vs Predator will be released on 12th August which means there will be no bad reviews for Fox’s big AvP opening:

“The local PR office confirmed our press screener as 8/12. Usually we screen a film at least 3 days prior to opening in order to have ample time to write reviews. In the industry when a film is screened the night before opening such as with “The Village”, it is seen as the studio not wanting any negative reviews to hamper a large opening so they screen it the night before. Doing so keeps many publications from having the review ready before the crucial Friday and Saturday ticket sales. I hope I am wrong on this, but it is very, very rare that a film that is screened the day before the opening is any good.”

I guess this could be a good thing in that people won’t be swayed by bad reviews at the beginning which happens with every film and The Village seems to have done well at the box office using this approach.

And yet don't forget, the same thing happened with Aliens and several other good movies just because they didn't have the time for screenings.     8)

Though I do have to say, I believe this movie is going to get torn apart by critics, no matter how much fun it might be.  I can already see the "witty" phrases they'll use in their reviews.

Hey - predator 2 got savaged - I'm still glad it got made! 1) I don't get paid to be trendy or follow the masses. 2) I don't give a crap what any critic says - I'll judge for myself. 3) Who gives a toss if eggbert and ropefrayed think it's the worst thing since the cat in the hat - we have biases and will appreciate the fact the bloody thing has finally made it to the big screen. 4) I still want Sanaa to have my baby.  AVP - apathy vs prejudice

The Village also wasn't the monster movie I was hoping for, which now makes seeing AVP that much more desirable right now. I'm going in to AVP with low expectations, so hopefully that'll help if the movie sucks, or blow me away not expecting much from the movie in the first place.

I've gotta say that all signs I've seen point to this being a bad movie. This is just one more thing, and its not open to interpretation. The movie is in the can; if they wanted to, they could screen it for critics so the reviews could be in Fridays papers. This really does make it seem like theyre trying to sneak it into theaters.  If this thing is any good at all I'll be totally amazed. Like someone else said though, at least it has low expectations - that can only help.

TRAITORS!!!! you who call yourselfs fans! have you lost all faith??? I have read the novel, it is great, this movie will rock, it will be the movie to see this summer, just because fox releases the film to the critics a day before the thing comes out, only means that fox understands the large dosages of crack that critics take in daily, I have read sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many horrible reviews that it is not even funny, some reviewer in the new york times or something said that hellboy was horrible because the monsters were too slimy!!! I am guessing that some critics will bash AVP, some will love it, Ebert and Roper gave Van Helsing very positive reviews, and other critics gave it horribly negitive reviews, EVERYONE HAS THEIR OPINION!!! BUT IF YOU ARE A TRUE AVP FAN ....(take it from someone who has read the nover) YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!

Cum on you muthas .....  Fox has been getting bad feedback since the day Anderson was announced as helming.  They even invited fanboys to the set so they could comment - and the feedback was great.  We've seen the trailers and THEY ROCK!  Maybe all fox want to do is avoid the standard shootdowns that we all know will come from critics more interested in Britney Speared.  They will slate it WHATEVER - so it makes sense not to give them the opportunity too soon.   Part of the trouble here is we're letting our own worries get the better of us.  We've all looked forward to this for friggin' YEARS and we all want it to be great.   I'll be the first person to admit it if I'm wrong - but based on everything I've seen reported from the set and everything I've seen in trailers/features this thing looks awesome.  For Christ's sake lets can the crap!  And I still want Sanaa to have my baby.     ???     8)     ;D
