Always loved that moment when Freddie's voice morphs into Brian's guitar at the start of the guitar solo.

Electric Peace by The Cult

For those who don't know the background behind this, in 1986 The Cult went in to the studio to record their third album, to be titled Peace. They album was recorded, mixed and mastered, but then the band decided they didn't like the sound, so the whole thing was scrapped and they started over with a new producer. They re-recorded some of the songs and replaced the rest with new tracks, and the result was 1987's Electric. Fast forward to a few years ago, and the band re-released both albums in this 2CD set, with the original unreleased record on the bonus disc.

Truth be told, I actually prefer the original album that the band shelved. I find Electric to be a bit bland, whereas the original is a lot more interesting and sounds more like classic 80s rock. Directly comparing the re-recorded songs, just about every one of them sounds far more exciting in its original version; "Peace Dog" in particular does nothing for me on Electric, but the original Peace sessions version is amazing. It doesn't help that the cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" the band put on Electric is really kinda terrible.

At least now that both versions are so easy to get I can listen the the superior original :)

A legendary version, By two much missed artists. Hard to believe this will be the first Christmas without Bowie

God I love OK Go.
That was a really cool video, the research put into doing that must have been exhausting.

Was listening to this while reading the last ten pages of a (fairly good) Dune script. :)

I really wished they continued this series of films back in the day.  This is such a mismanaged property.  It is so vast, they could have a series of 20 films like Marvel out of this.

Been listening to this full OST from Akira.

I found it a challenge to get through.  I recall very much enjoying the music in the film, but on it's own it seems to be very different.  Perhaps the OST is significantly different from the actual film's arrangement?  I suppose its about time to watch Akira again.  It's been many years...

McAvoy would have rocked it as the God Emperor... no idea how they'd film that book, though.

Simultaneously as I'm working, I've been trying to catch up on some classic Vangelis.  I've been a fan for a long time, but I am realizing how many albums I've never heard before.  So I am listening to "See you Later".  It's unique.

It features one of my favorite Vangelis Tracks, Memories of Green, which also appeared in Bladerunner.  Some interesting notes on that from Wikipedia:

"Memories of Green" is a slow piano-based piece with a backdrop of synthesizer sounds and bleeps from the 1978 Bambino electronic game "UFO Master Blaster Station". The piano used on this piece was a Steinway Grand piano. Its distinctive "drunk" sound was achieved with the use of an Electroharmonix Electric Mistress flanger pedal.[6] This song was used in Vangelis' subsequent soundtrack to the 1982 film Blade Runner.

Me like. So 80s

You can usually count on the Germans/Scandinavians to make some quality oldschool rock.
