Been listening to this a hell of a lot again lately, mostly because I've tracked down the various single remixes/non-album B-sides and burned myself an expanded edition (the official expanded edition is shite, featuring none of those obvious choices as bonus tracks, instead opting for a bunch of unrelated live recordings otherwise available on one of the band's live albums, topped off with an almost unlistenable "remastered" mix). Again, not much to say about the album. It rocks.Slip of the Tongue by Whitesnakehttp://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/lyricwiki/images/8/80/Whitesnake_-_Slip_of_the_Tongue.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150507060822While this certainly isn't as good as its classic predecessor above, I really don't get why it's so reviled when 1987 is so lauded, because they're both basically identical - rocking hair metal albums with a strong wiff of the 80s about them. Steve Vai's guitar work is criticised as being far too over the top, and while that's a fair point, John Sykes was hardly Mr. Conservative on 1987. Even so, it's a fair shout; whereas Sykes at least occasionally dialled it back a little and went more bluesy where appropriate, Vai just goes mad with the pyrotechnics pretty much constantly. It's awesome, but it's not really Whitesnake. Also, unlike its predecessor, I have to admit there are a few legit duds on here. But the stronger tracks are great. This one's next on my to-be-expanded checklist, which means I'll be hitting up eBay for the singles. The official expanded edition does at least include the various B-sides and the single remix of "Now You're Gone", but again the mastering job is just atrocious. I think Coverdale's going deaf in his old age lol.

It's a shame the full thing's never been released, but apparently someone other than the band has the rights to the unreleased songs and he's demanding an extortionate amount of money for them.

But then again Thin Lizzy are one of those bands for me where their "greatest hits" aren't even nearly my favourite songs. Most of my favourite Lizzy tracks won't be found on any of their greatest hits compilations."Call on Me" by Whitesnake.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWq2k_SYx84#Whitesnake goes kinda metal.
