Do you not do anything to keep yourself occupied?

I don't know. Getting paid to sit around all day. Seems like the perfect job.

If you go with security, please go with a company that pays you the equivalent of US $10-12 or above. I work for $9, and its not bad since I'm still in college, but on your own its not any money to save up.

Yeah, that isn't much at all. Just checked and it's pretty similar here. Just above minimum wage though it does vary. They're introducing a new living wage in the UK so in 2020, the minimum wage will be at least £9 ($14) / hour for everybody.

Everyone needs something stimulating while they're working. Sitting for 8 hours 5 days a week straight will make anyone go mad.
The 15$ minimum wage is slowly getting introduced out here, it's rather silly when you think of it. People currently making that wage are not going to get a raise and essentially what you have is a communist style labor force in the economy...

I think the main problem is that the people who are hired in the largest quantities are immigrants who can't get better jobs because their qualifications aren't recognized by our retarded fascist government. They come from high-status professions to working as a peon. Really, who can blame them for not taking their job seriously?
I agree even more!
I've met pharmacists, ex-military specialists and (this is one that bothered me a lot) an engineer from the U.K whom told me he hasn't been finding any luck because people have a tough time understanding him.  ::)
And then all these people drop their resumes in front of a recruiting agent who is less likely to utilize them because that will mean that they will have to invest time and effort in their job to be strategic and they can't have that. It's really sickening and counter productive seeing an entire nation disregard an education because it is in another language, even worst when they devalue that education and think that the person who has it is stupid...

thankfully, the Navy is training me as an electronic technician for the fleet, so when my 6 yr contract is up, I'll be able to find a good paying job in the electronics field as a civilian if I decide to just go reserves in 2021- at least, that's the hope.  And maybe take advantage of the G.I. bill to get some more training in computer science or technology to keep myself relevant in the market place.

I'm an academy training Sergeant for the Division of Corrections. I worked 10 years in a maximum security prison and yes, they are pretty much the hell hole you see on tv. Maybe not quite as bad, but at least in the infield. Orange is the New Black isn't close to reality though.

If you have ever seen the Wonderful Whites of West Virginia, you've seen where my current office is. Please don't think we are all like that lol. Even the accent is a little on the uncommon side.

Last time I posted in here I might have still been in the Marines, not sure, but I thought I'd post an update:

I work in local television. I put in about 4 years at one local affiliate where I live, running cameras, teleprompter, audio board, and very basic master control operations. I spent the last six months or so as the director/technical director of the one newscast they did after some serious cutbacks. Recently switched to another affiliate in town and now I operate the Avid Deko system for the evening weekday newscasts, five per day.

Does anyone else around here work in TV production?

I've always wondered why there are so many (comparatively) military folks around here. Not to sound rude, but do you gravitate towards Aliens and Predator (those two movies specifically) because they feature the military?

tried, I even tried to get into game design, apparently entertainment just wasn't for me.  How did you get into TV production?  Isn't that hard to get into?

Last summer, I paint walls and floors for a while until I started school. I did help volunteer for Bluefin at Otakon during the summer which was a lot of fun. I'm just a art major at a community college and have been at my college for 5 years now. Still have ways to go.

I work in Technical Support for an Internet Service Provider in the UK, specialising in providing high speed broadband to rural communities.  Had to get the work spiel in there.

It's scares me how insane people get within 5 minutes of losing the internet.

It looks like I'll be going into full-time professional IT work later this year. The data centre where I do security is cancelling the security contract with the company I work for and they want to bring me in as a level one tech. The facility manager loves me, lol, that's her rationale.

I don't know if I would call it a real job, but my aunt's been paying me to stay at her ranch on weekends and take care of her four horses. I used to consider myself a lover of all animals (she has dogs and cats I like a lot), but these horses are unclouded by conscience, remorse or delusions of morality.
