Enjoy! ;D
---
From the team that brought you the unique experience of Under the Hunter's Moon comes a brand new Alien Single Player map for 'AvP2'.
Hostile Appetite will place you in the role of a ravenous xenomorph leading the Alien assault on the Hadleys Hope colony on the distant world of Acheron, also known as LV-426.
The map supports the following features:
-interior and exterior locations based on the film 'ALIENS'.
-New 'Chomp-o-Meter' kill counter that keeps track of how many kills still remain.
-158 juicy human victims to sink your teeth into.
-Up to 4 AI Aliens that will follow you around and attack colonists on sight.
...and much more!
For more details and information visit:
http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/editing/b49028/20118973/p1/?48
You can expect 'Hostile Appetite' to be released at the end of October/early November, 2009.

156.
Woot!
Look foward to it.
Awesomesauce. I'll be reinstalling AVP 2 for this one.
You and your team are my favourite modders for AvP.
If mod tools are released for AvP 2010, please continue your work.
Omg.. You're going to bring me back again. I finished Primal Hunt a week ago and then put the game back down.
Wow I wish I wouldnt have gotten that virus!
If you don't care about loosing files, I'm sure you could reformat your hard drive predalien27.
i cant wait to tear hadleys hope apart >:D
how do I format the HD manually?
Haven't done it myself yet, but from what I saw my friend do he simply reinstalled Windows and it gave an option to reformat.
Well all my icons and start function are gone. Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) is disabled too. So I'm pretty much stuck.
What happens when you boot, is all the pre windows stuff still popping, can you f2, f10 etc.
yea that pops up
Ohhhh! Cool! I really need to get AvP2 again.
Will this be the entire Colony plus Atmosphere Processor?
Most of the colony complex is represented in the map and you will be able to roam around several familiar locations.
You won't be able to enter the atmosphere processor as it exists only in a cinematic.
Time and technical limitations restrict how much I can actually squeeze into this map.
-Windebieste.
Darnit! I was hoping Wind was going to let us know it was the end of the month already and we could play!
Got my PC to work. YAY! I formatted it. I reinstalled AVP2 but I can't get internet to work, so I have to call Verizon. Hopefully I get it back before Hostile Appitite comes out. YAY!
Hey, it's October 15 - you've got a strange idea of what "end of the month means"... ;D
Right now the map is on schedule to be released in 2-3 weeks. I am now going through all of the final tidy up and bug fixes.
Don't forget! There is a link to be found on the first post to screenshots of work in progress and more information.
-Windebieste.
Does anybody have a weapon. I expect something some people a pistol to show up, but is there going to be anyone with heavy weapons like the minigun?
Why would colonist have a minigun?
Pistols and shotguns should be enough.
Exactly. How about a brave soul who trys to attack the player with a knife, is there any of that?
I haven't been able to configure the AI to carry knives. I did try to do so but the editor doesn't support the feature but, yeah, it would be cool to have some of the guys charge at the Player with knives. I would have liked some of the staff in the medlab to hack at the Player with scalpels - that would be cool, too, but not with the current build.
So sorry, no. No knives allowed - someone might get hurt. ;D
Expect pistols, sure - but none of these make an appearance in the map: Pulse Rifles, Smartguns, Grenade Launchers or other Marine associated gear. As this map takes place BEFORE the marines arrive at the decimated colony and the civilian colonists don't have that kind of gear to hold their own against the Alien surprise attack, you won't have to face them.
Expect the early stage of the map to be a tasty smorgasbord of head chomping until the colonists organise their desperate defence and start handing out firearms to the survivors.
Go check out the screenshots in the link on the first page. You'll see some weapons in use. Umm... I think. ;D

Nope! I didn't see any.
The ones on PAVP had some colonist using pistols.
To bad AVP2 doesnt work on my mac.

Grrr Nobody is on AJL too much so I have to play boring old vanilla AVP2 MP untill this comes out!
Can't wait!
Just have one more (but important) issue to fix.
Should be done in a day or so. ;D

I want to rip up some colonists so bad.
I want to impregnate a marine, predator or colonist.
That won't happen in this mod...
Sorry buddy, no preds or marines!
There are no predators or marine's in this mod. You are just a xenomorph going around Hadley's Hope killing colonists, before the Mrines got there in Aliens. You know this is for the PC game Aliens versus Predator 2 that was released in 2001, I believe.
This fella done died?
Nah, just logistics issues.
Grrr... I'm goin to enter headbity mode soon.

Done and done. Nice work. Some of those colonists were in really tricky places, but none of them are counter-intuitive or silly. The whole Queen thing when you get down to 10 or so colonists is pretty cool, but at that point, you've already cleared out almost anyone that's a threat, and I managed to clear out entire rooms of pistol-armed colonists by making sure I got headbites on whichever target was closest, so it didn't really contribute to the gameplay beyond removing your wallwalk and making it easier for your loyal servants to block your passage.
It was also
really goddamned cool, though. I'm currently up to the Sole Survivor part, which is absolute hell. Now if only I could remember where I saw that smartgun mounted upon a wall...
Fanf**kingtastic.
I'll play it tomarrow. I ran out of time today.
OHHH YEAHH!!!
just played a little and, the way the colony looks is magnific.
tomorrow when i finally have spare time i will play the hell out of it.

Fanf**kingtastic.
Well, now that I've actually played it.
meh
Great mapwork but it got boring fast.
Especially searching for 1 last guy who could be anywhere.
Nobody really put up a fight, save for a couple guys with pistols and that guy in the bar, but nothing was really challenging.
The alien buddies killed me a few times, so I just killed them at the start, plus they tend to get in your way.
As I said, it got boring, running around a huge map killing people who just stand in the corner isn't that fun. Maybe with some real objectives it could be, I dunno. I'll give it another try later maybe.
edit:
Gave it another go, still meh.
Got to the barricade and then my alien friend decided to headbite me.
Yeah, ma buddies keep shankin' me from behind whenever they get hungry. Had the same problem with Temple of the Worm. Ah well, I'll get through it eventually.

It's a secret. But if you got to one of the elevators, you have gone too far to see it. ;D

Nice map. Unfortunately, AVP2 acts up on me sometimes, resulting in slow, laggy and sluggish game play which makes it pretty much unplayable. I downloaded the file, so I'll play it in full as soon as the game runs well enough.
Yay, beat it! It was tough to get that last person.
I can't find 9 people. And I'm getting angry in the pants.
9 is too much. You are probably missing the vents, always look up when you walk into a room.

I've been all up and down the vents, and even went to the jockey ship, but not in them.
I suppose thats where I start tomorrow after I get back from NashVegas.
After you kill the annoying bartender with the shotgun, you go in the vents...and in the room at the end you let a hugger out, he hugz the guy etc. Anything else you have to do in that room?
I may be trying this at friday ;)
Nvm got it. Somewhere in the middle there is a vent access that doesn't look like it at all. 3 birdies in there.
ALIENS RULLZ LV
Go into the comms room and in the ceiling, across from the vent you came in from should be another vent with the person that was hardest for me.
Yesh that was tricky but didn't take me lot of time.
Just got finished playing this mod. I really dug the hell out of it. Some parts were tricky, having to back track as the Praetorian, but the mood, and the recreation of Hadley's Hope was awesome. I sincerely hope Rebellion releases mod tools as it will extend the life the their game 10 fold.
Beat it! And in one sitting too! 8) It was fun, I liked it even more that UTHM. Now I'm going to try sole-survivor.
Keep up the good work Windebieste!
Edit:
I can't for the life of me figure out how to beat sole-survivor. I've gotten outside where there's a running convoy and I press E. A message displays saying I need the security codes for the main gate. Where am I supposed to get those? I've looked everywhere I can since the broken elevator prevents me from completely backtracking. Earlier in the control room I hit a flashing red button that didn't seem to do anything. Was that supposed to give me the codes?

Spoiler
Check the Computer in the bar.
Oh. I would never of found that, thanks!
Activating the blinking red switch in the control room should do several things:
1). Unlock the exit from the control room.
2). Unlock a Trigger that activates some aggressive AI Aliens that will come rushing towards you once the door opens.
3). Add a new Objective to your list of Objectives explaining the need to go to the bar and find the gate security pass. It should also activate a "Your Objectives have been updated" message on the left of the screen to let you know of the updated Objectives.
If any of these items didn't activate then it could be a bug in the map. If it is a bug, I will need to know.
-Windebieste.
If you're staring at chompy parts, probably likely you missed the scroll on the bottom left of the screen.
Can't say, that I like this one... Never ejoyed play as an alien too much, but one thing I can say:
Didn't met any resistance at all until the bar. the body-count showed about 110. Suddenly, there I am in the bar, against I guy, who's actually armed, behind multiple obstacles in the end of the room.
"Here we go, first challenge!"
I rush into the room, wasting a few civs, trying to reach to the bartender.
He shoots me.
I try other tactic - strife on the walls or the ceiling hoping to avoid the bar and the tables.
He shoots me.
New idea - I wait for the xenomorph goons with me to gather closer to the door, and near it very careful not pounced by my own (rather harmful than useful) companions. It seem to work - one of the xenos rushes in, butchering civs. Suddenly, he gets the bartender's attention. For the first time something new.
While he shoots at the other alien I suddenly hear additional blast - and I'm down to pieces. He doesn't even bother turning to me, while shooting the other alien. One more thing - the shot for me sounds like an extra one between the standard rate of fire, like a triple shot.
Have to try something else. In the previous attempts I found out that while in several distance the bartender doesn't bother shooting at me. I step back, choose a spot wide enough to pounce and jump.
He shoots me.
The pouncing idea still seems fair, I try different approach. I close in, strafing, and pounce exactly when I hear a shot. While in the air the shot becomes a double-shot.
The bastard nails me again, wright on the bar.
Tried to look for a sneaky way inside, somehow found the door is the only way in.
What's the conclusion?
Creating a huge complex without any resistance from the casual victims, with one or few near impossible to break points is not the best way to design a level.
There is way in you just can't find it. This level was a refreshing AvP2 experience.
And it is a good recreation of HH, the place isn't packed with marines. The point isn't to be fighting against guns but finding and terminating all of the colonists. So the resistance you are talking about has no place here.
There may be, because I noticed that when I level the bar a gunshot instantly kills me. Like it's scripted.
Even if I can nail him easy, still not my type of gaming. :-\
The purpose is to make you find the alternative way in, it's all about the alien.

I'm stuck here. I've just done this and killed everyone I can see but I've still got 80 folk left. Is there some extra complex I'm missing. :-\
Quite possibly.
It's been a while since I played this, but "think Alien" is the best advice here. The way forward is seldom as simple as "door opens". Vents aren't the only extra access paths. Access tunnels and maintenance paths are just as common in this map.
1 f**king guy left..
Gave me a bit of a headache...but finished it a little bit ago.
Pretty neat and good to know maps are still being done.

80? Start again and check
every corner, door, elevator and vent.
I found it. It was a gate - I needed to smash the lock. I'm down to 8 folk and am now the Queen. Just destroyed the folk behind the barricade.
8 is still a lot. You'll see.
Oh yea. Especially as a Praetorian.
Me feels I should probably start again.
I felt that the first time through, too. But keep truckin'.
DAMN! shouldn't have lost my AVP2 CDS!!!
Sorry if this a too much of a n00bish question, but where's the sound at in the mod? Every time I play, it's totally silent. Is this normal or am I just a failure?
Mod has all the sounds as appropriate, try redownloading it.
Has anybody ever beat this? I remember thinking it was impossible without the ability to save in the game.
Read previous posts.
Ah, sorry. :-[
Can you save during this campaign? I beat Under the Hunter's Moon (very hard I tell you) and tried to beat this, but I think I stopped playing when I found out you couldn't save, but my memory on that part is a bit fuzzy.
Just became Praetorian, backtracking to kill some folks I missed.
Down to 9 people, stuck in a door. Happened as drone, but you could wall-walk and get out of it. The door will close on you, and it doesnt register anything to open it unless another one of your drones comes up and opens it. None of the drones will follow me into the dead-end room where I'm stuck.
Stuck in a door.
Stuck in a door, with 9 people left.

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier. There's no denying it. Hevoc DID provide me with the original Hadley's Hope raw map file for this Project. He is credited as doing so in the readme:
"Base : An heavily modified version of Hevoc's 'Hadleys Hope' is featured in this map. "and
"My Thanks Goes to These People: ... To Hevoc who created the original Hadleys Hope map that was the inspiration for this Project."Hevoc's original Hadley's Hope map was extensively revised for this Project. It was used as a base map but completely torn down and rebuilt with many, many locations changed to accommodate the gameplay, optimisations and additions well beyond the original map.
That being said, it's still much of Hevoc's work. I never denied it.
Also, it's unfortunate that planetavp.com is no longer with us. IGN took all the Planet sites down a few years back. Too bad, really. I wrote a lot of reviews for custom maps for both 'AvP' and 'AvP2' appearing on that site. Including the one you linked to.
Hope this clears things up a bit.

Shipley wanted me to do reviews for PAvP so bad. He begged me to the point where I was willing to make some reviews, but he wouldn't let me review what I wanted. Instead, he would tell me what to review. That said, I did 1 review and refused to do anymore. Eventually he disappeared and no one updated the site for years until ign took over and closed it.
AvPNews was better in my opinion as well.

Can't have it, or it's just not being made?
Still plenty of avp2 custom files being made as we speak. loads coming out soon.

Nice. The potential for modding that game is infinite and people are still interested in doing so. Especially with DEdit
and the game's source code available (if you know where to look for it, that is - it aint that hard to find, anyway.)
Unlike the games released in the past half dozen years or so, 'AvP2' will never die.

Where's all the activity based? Unknown?
I know of 3 mappers that are still currently active. 1 new marine mission should be releasing soon by HHO.
I'll get it up on AvpUnknown eventually.

Nice to know some people are still making them but its just not the same. :-\ I wish the new games would cater to community content.

Hmmm... that looks too much like the same operations i made with Havoc - enjoy the comparison: http://www.planetavp.com/mods/motw/hadleyshope/ (http://www.planetavp.com/mods/motw/hadleyshope/)
and
"My Thanks Goes to These People: ... To Hevoc who created the original Hadleys Hope map that was the inspiration for this Project."
Hevoc's original Hadley's Hope map was extensively revised for this Project.

Hey there (:
Thanks for the credit! I did very true indeed release the bulk of me ED-files before leaving for new frontiers - with the explicit intention of having people using them one way or another. Glad that it was used.
One very dark frustration for most mappers 'back 'in 'em 'days where the lack of ed-files. On the other hand, those ED-files that were released by Monolith, they were used a lot by the mappers, and to my taste maybe had a too direct impact on the released content for a long time in terms of style as the result of various prefabs. Though, this made the work of some extraordinary mappers more unique and interesting. Psykore and Redriot would be great mentions here :D
I'm right now reinstalling AVP2 and will most likely have the pleasure to play Hostile Appetite this weekend - looking forward!
Nice to know,
what about installing the tools again and get back into the world of 'Dedit' ? :P

Yeah, this is how I feel. I'd just love to use a modern engine. The video game industry has become really shitty over the years. I miss when tools were just a given.
Does anyone have a download for this map?

Thank you kindly. Had no idea they were on there.

Nope, honestly, those two levels are Master-Pieces, glad to know I'm not the only one that remembers them.

*campaigns, although maps would be a more suitable word since Hostile Appetite is just a single level (unless the second part - where you switch to a Marine - was an
almost exact replica).
Don't hit me with this sad nostalgia.
There is no map change on 'Hostile Appetite' if you complete the Alien campaign and then play the Human component. It's the same map; and your character/class has been swapped from Alien to Human. The only changes made is some geometry has become visible and others hidden during the transition cut-scene. This was done for good reason...
If, while playing as an Alien, you CHOOSE to destroy any health and armor items you find, those items will also be gone and will not respawn when playing as the 'sole survivor'. Depending on how much shit you have fun wrecking as an Alien may just come back to bite you on the bum when you hunt for those items as a Human. Destroy everything, and the mod is very challenging in its Human component.
You also have the added knowledge of knowing *most* of the layout of the map when playing as the Human, which makes sense because you have presumably lived on the colony for a few weeks at the time of the Aliens' assault. You should be familiar with where the canteen, medlab and operations by the time you play as a Human.
So, yes. There is only one level from start to finish. I really pushed the limits on the game engine for this one. lol.

I'm still waiting for dm_shafts 2 :D

I finished the map 3 times and never got a "Sole Survivor" part
The closest i had to that was the Marine campaign starting automatically after finishing the map.
