If only Seegson built Sevastopol there, they'd be set.
Ah, the joys and woes of retconning.  Too bad there's no room to imagine that a CTV towed it from there to KG-348 once Seegson realized there'd be greater profits. ;)

Yep. Seems like there's quite a bit of radio chatter starting to accumulate, just short of Zeta 2 Reticuli.

It's from WYR.

that question was answered in the suppliment film "Advent" on the Covenant Blu-Ray. David sent back his transmission to HQ with his knowledge and findings. Hence why in the contract all of the crew signed in Alien saying that they would forfeit all of their shares if they did not check out a transmission of possible "alien" origin. the company has known for quite a while due to David... simple as that.

David also sent back his transmission from the region of Zeta 2 Reticuli.

FWIW.

Current lore is the Nostromo picked up the transmission en route to Thedus; Mother thought it was a lost mapping satellite; it got sent back to Network where it was deciphered.

Do you know where that's from?

I also assumed that the special orders to investigate life forms (or any resource) and to use androids like Ashe for a variety of purposes are all part of general policies meant to protect the interests of the company and to maximize profits.

Yeah, I don't think that one is too much of a stretch and a notion I subscribe to myself.

I remember asking the same thing after watching Aliens when it was released. I assumed that the Nostromo by default transmitted information, its last position, etc., to be picked by the nearest ship or outpost. It's possible that the company did not receive the transmission; otherwise, they would have sent crews that specialize in investigating alien life forms to LV-426 while it was being terraformed. In which case, they found out about the alien first from Ripley.

I also assumed that the special orders to investigate life forms (or any resource) and to use androids like Ashe for a variety of purposes are all part of general policies meant to protect the interests of the company and to maximize profits.

Finally, about the marines' reference to bug-hunts, company officials mentioned that they had not encountered a creature described by Ripley in more than 300 surveyed worlds, but they could have discovered other life forms.

The Company knew about a transmission they'd translated.  They knew there could be a valuable lifeform, so put Ash on board to 'insure' specimens were returned.  They didn't know it was a capital A Alien.

I think WY already knows the alien right before Alien. Well, then why Ash is stationed there and programmed to protect it? Maybe if we went with the movies David may be responsible, but my theory is another unfortunate ship before Nostromo discovered it, being a possession of WY.

Other than the ending, I kinda like how the story is a bit open to interpretation, it leaves some room for imagination.
That makes two of us.   ;)

I think it was Ransome who contacted Weyland Yutani about the Alien. He wanted to "set himself up for life".

Taylor was sent from WY to retrieve the Nostromo recorder but had a secret mission to secure the Alien - she later drops this when she see's how dangerous it is.
Old post, I know but since it's my thread... ;)

I actually hadn't though of Ransome contacting WY, I guess that's possible.

As for Taylor, I think she was just being opportunistic company (wo)man.

I'm still not 100% clear how WY fits in the original Alien film, if they intentionally put Ash on the ship knowing they'd visit the derelict etc, but maybe a situation report got back to gateway station or wherever, before communications were cut off on sevastopol, then WY intercepted the communication somehow, whether it's standard practice being the leaders in space exploration/colonisation etc... if they did then it wouldn't have been hard to put 2 and 2 together and figured out what was up then taken action from there.

They either personally intercepted the derelict's warning message or obtained it from a third party which sold it to them. They didn't know much in the way of specifics, aside from there being some kind of organism involved. A synthetic was inserted into the crew as an underhand way of making sure the crew complied with protocol.

Whatever data they recovered couldn't have been enough to justify the cost of putting a specialised retrieval team mission together.

Maybe this is me answering my own question, but I'd like to ask what others think.

Now, we know the Company purchased Sevastopol and uploaded their quarantine orders into Apollo when they discovered that an Alien lifeform was onboard the station - but how did they find this out in the first place? I guess the most obvious answer is that they hacked into Sevastopol systems after the Nostromo flight recorded was reported found.

But this raises another question, is this standard Company practice of snooping around or did the Nostromo connection ring some alarm bells (at the Bio Weapons division?)?

Of course, maybe this was mentioned in the game and I'm just forgetting it?
