I quite enjoy AvP to be honest but then it was what I expected it to be.

Personally I find the whole idea to be a bit of silly fun and that's how I approached the film. The location/sets and effects are mostly fine and it has one or two likable characters but its just an adventure romp that happens to feature the Alien and Predator.

My only gripe with it is some of the action sequences are pretty messy and hard to see whats going on but its infinitely better than AvPR on a film making level for sure.

Covenant is a completely different kind of film on every level and far more ambitious in what its trying to be so I find it difficult to compare the two but ultimately I would rather watch Covenant any day of the week. Its by far a richer, more rewarding and superior experience in my opinion.

Good CG and puppet.  Running looked dopey as.

I don't think anyone had a problem with the technical aspects of AvP. It just suffered from a shitty script and acting.

And yeah, the Alien Queen at the end still looks fantastic.

I've watched AvP more times than I care to remember.  I'll take Covenant any day.

It was more a 'Seriously?' 'What?' than anything specific.
Yeah, I got that, but seriously: watch AvP again, make a list of faults the movie has and then rewatch Covenant. You would be frightened by the similarities, only it's even worse in Covenant's case.

Ask a more specific question and I would be happy to elaborate. When talking about these two films there's a lot of ground to cover.

I gotta agree, Covenant made AvP look good. Every flaw I had with AvP, Covenant doubles down on. Be it underdeveloped characters, messy plot, problematic lore or even over the top shakeycam action. I still need someone to explain Covenant's rope dangling scene to me. All I know is Daniels was swinging from a rope while shooting at stuff (because Covenant is "smart sci-fi"), the alien was there somewhere, and then it died.

I still think of the movie the same way as when I watched when I was 10. Disappointing. But with some cool parts.

I've always held that the first AVP should given MUCH higher regard than it is. Far more than even this thread is giving it.

I think it's pretty great.

The cgi in AVP holds up great, but that's all it has going for it. Covenant is a better film in every way.

. Also I remember back in the day one of the biggest complaints us fanboys had was how quick it was for a Xenomorph to grow... and yet somehow Alien: Covenant repeats that. XD

After having a meh opinion on Covenant, I'm willing to just re-accept the AVP films into the franchise for the hell of it, even the really crap second film.

Yeah, Ridley hates the AVP films and possibly the very concept of AVP and then he pulls that super speed crap with Covenant, worse still is
Spoiler
the Lope incident which really does dump on the lore.

No, not the second film!
