MMOs are evil. They breed idiocy and assholishness. Assholishness is now trademark (TM) me, Kriszilla, and my business Nobeadz inc.

Interesting, I think it could be done sorta like TR in terms of combat, but besides that, it would need to be done very uniquely in order to pull it off convincingly.

This idea's been brought up many times before. Personally I think MMORPg isn't the right game format for AvP.

Does anyone here think that AvP 3 should be an MMORPG? It would be fun, like you choose your species, then choose a planet. You can travel from planet to planet in ships, and if aliens sneak aboard, well, just think Nostromo. The aliens infect planets, take over hospitals, wipe out colonies, while the humans try to stop it. To bad if your friend is supposed to help you with a mission and he gets caught in the way... And the Predators hunt all over, returning to the mother-ship to train.

Opinions, ideas?

Not neccersarily, I think it would be pretty good. Maybe not WoW good, but still good.

You could expand immensely on the universe, and then make one. AVP would only be a small part of the entire, enhanced, universe.

Personally, i'd like to see some kind of Sci-Fi RPG thats really dark and evil. I've developed a few ideas for my own setting, along those lines.

This thread already exists in the "games" forum. ;o But I'll copy my response.

It wouldn't work at all. Especially if players could be Aliens or Predators.

MMORPGs function from the mundane social interactions between players and the time-consuming tasks they can complete in the game world. Most MMO players don't care about story, atmosphere, role playing, or any of the stuff that might actually make AVP great. It would be like taking an AVP internet forum and giving all the posters 3D avatars to run around with. It would just... no.

Plus, MMOs are designed on long-term committment. The AVP franchise doesn't have the character development possibilities necessary to sustain an MMO's content requirements.

Looks good on paper, but you'd be upset if it actually happened, it would plain suck.

However, if I was going to do it, I'd do the following:

Races: Humans, Predators, and Aliens, obviously.

Classes:

Predator: Hunter (balanced class)
              Brawler (close combat specialised)
              Blazer (ranged specialist)
Elder (support class with decreased battle skills due to age.)

Alien: Drone (balanced class)
        Runner (speed and agility specialised)
Predalien (average speed, physically tough, weak armour)
Praetorian (heavy armour, good strength, slow)

Human: Marine (balanced class)
Medic (support class with weaker weapons than marine)
Battle synthetic (Combat exclusive, no non-battle abilities)
           Sniper (accurate, most powerful ammunition)

I'd have it all take place on one world, but have seperate zones to travel through.

PvP would be pretty much the only goal of this though, as there are no other major races in the AvP universe, so wandering creatures would have to be NPCs from another species.

I dont see an MMORPG working.
AvP is more of an RPG or FPS...
