Collider recently did an interview with John Davis (Producer of every Predator movie). He basically says that they need to rest the Predator franchise for a few years and then maybe see if they can re-invent it again. He also reveals that the reason Arnie didn’t want to do Predator 2 was because he wanted $250,000 more than what they offered him. Previously, Arnie declined to Predator 2 because he didn’t like the concept of setting it in the city.
Davis: Yes. I talked to Arnold about rebooting Predator and doing something in terms of that. I think in terms of right now, it needs to rest for a couple of years. I can’t see why if we can’t be clever we can’t reinvent it again.
Davis: Yeah. He changed the setting. He put it on another planet. You have to keep changing the setting. You have to find a clever way to do it. If we were going to do it with Arnold; it was like, “Does it make sense to go back and to put him with a young team?” So maybe it’s 20 years later, you have retired, and you are the one person who has survived one of these encounters. Is that a reboot in the fact that you are in it with a group of young guys? Is that a reboot? You just have to figure out a way to reboot it. Rodriguez rebooted it. It’s all in the planet. The sequel to the first one rebooted it. We should’ve had Arnold in the movie. The deal broke down over $250,000, which is a shame. But it was moved from the jungle to the city. You have to create a freshness about it. When we did Alien vs. Predator we kind of rebooted it because we put the two pieces together. You just have to give it enough time to come up with a new freshness. It is what they did so brilliantly with Fast Five.

Now old Arnold Schwarzenegger’s political career is ending, he’s returning to film. At one of his regular Arnold Seminars, Schwarzenegger fansite The Arnold Fans asked him about his future projects. His answer was this:
“Well, first of all it’s more 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too. But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I’m going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April.”
I’m not sure why he said a remake of Predator given the release of Predators last year. Perhaps he meant a sequel to Predators. Thanks to Bat Chain Puller for the link.
I’ve uploaded an interview I conducted with Joseph Pepe, a conceptual artist who worked on Predators:
“Well the concept of him wearing the scavenged Predator gear was already in the script. I just had to make it work on a human sized body, which I found very difficult, added the Japanese Samurai helmet and other accoutrements in Photoshop. I used some mercenary like clothing to help convey his situation as well.”
You can read the whole thing at the interviews section. As well as that AvPGalaxy member Vecrotus has also written a profile section for the new Predators. We’ll have more updates coming soon.
To promote the upcoming Predators Blu-ray and DVD release, Fox have opened a new Predators themed site:

It’s a game that is designed to utilize Facebook that lets you unlock new clips and trailers. Fox have also released some clips via YouTube. You can also check out some previews of the upcoming release in our forums.
Ikarop recently wrapped up an interview he conducted with Michael Broom, a concept artist who worked on the recent Predators:
“ I did a sketch for a kind of ‘Hannibal Lector’-type Predator. You know Steve Buchemi’s character in ‘Con Air’, how they kept him strapped into this thing and a mask chained on him? Similar concept, but Predator version. Skinnier, scarier, kept on a chain to be released upon prey, like some freaky Berserker.”
They discuss much of the work done on Predators, including some that didn’t make it into the final product. Examples of Michael’s work are also included in the interview. Be sure to read this amazing interview.
The BBFC website has posted up a list of deleted scenes from Predators that will be featured on the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release:
No descriptions as of yet. Thanks to the optimistic pessimist for the link.
I recently had chance to have a chat with Brian Steele, the performer responsible for Mr Black and Falconer in the recent Predators film:
“It was different in scope because there was so much source material on the Predator. The character isn’t being developed from scratch. There is already an outline in place on what is expected from the performance. With other characters I have done the canvass is blank which allows me a different type of freedom on personality and movement.”
I’d like to thank Brian for taking the time to talk to us. Be sure to read the whole interview here.
In an interview with IGN FilmForce, Robert Rodriguez has ‘confirmed’ that they are looking at a sequel to Predators.
“[The studio] said, ‘Let’s do some other ones. What other story ideas do you have?’” says the filmmaker. “Because it was like, let’s test out the market with this one. They really wanted it to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back. They didn’t want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one. So we could see what the appetite was, because the bigger movie would actually be what comes following that. That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there.”
Rodriguez says he has “an idea” of what he will do with the sequel. The next step, he says, is probably to have other writers come in and pitch different versions of his basic premise, along with new concepts. And then, as with the first Predators, he’ll pick the best one. As for whether or not he would direct the sequel…
“I don’t know,” he laughs. “I think I have too many people wanting me to do Sin City 2 first!”
