Bloody Disgusting has reported that according to Total Access Magazine, Sigourney Weaver has signed for Alien 5.
“Kandymann was reading a recent issue of Total Access Magazine and came across an interesting bit of news regarding Alien 5, “Having tested so well to preview and -release, 20th Century Fox has continuing the popular franchise. Sigourney Weaver has already signed for the proposed Alien 5, demanding that her charater Ripley, to be killed off at the end of this one for good…” More of the plotline revealed at an earlier date set Ripley out to return to the planet where the Aliens came from, or she will actually go to “the” aliens planet to kill them all, once an for all! Of course this is all old news, except for the fact that it says Weaver is signed on for the final chapter in this never ending saga! I’m more excited for this than I am Alien vs Predator.”

DVDDebate have posted an interesting article comparing the region 1 version to the region 2 vesion in their Alien Quadrilogy review. So which one’s better you’re wondering? Here’s part of the summary:
“As for which region to go for, that too is pretty clear. With both sets available for the same price, the Region 1 set offers far greater value, while the Region 2 has some annoying, and pointless, omissions. If you don’t have a multi-region DVD player, then this set is the only excuse you need to go get one.”
So there you go. The region 1 version has better special features. Also to note is on the bonus disk, the Alien Legacy documetary is not inlcuded on either version due to space restrictions. Also the region 1 bonus disk features a Script-to-Scene comparisom – something that is missing from the region 2. So go read the long, detailed review on DVDDebate.

Since the artwork for the individual Alien DVD releases was published yesterday, I thought I’d make a few pages with an overview of each DVD set. You can view a profile of the Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection DVD individual releases and a review will be eventually put there next year.

I just received an email from someone named Corporal Schiefer, T.R. informing me about of a brand new Aliens RPG /Co-operative Writers Project called AXOD: Colonial Marines. Here’s part of the email:
“This Corporal Timothy R. Schiefer from the 14th Battalion, 5th Regiment of the Anti Xenomorph Operations Division of the United States Colonial Marines Corps. I’m here to get the word out about a brand new Aliens RPG/Co-operative Writers Project called ‘AXOD: Colonial Marines’. It encompasses the Aliens universe and goes beyong it to create a totally unique experience for fans of the AL()ENS and PREDATOR series.
Beginning with a little project called ‘Aliens: Rings From Corona’, it soon became apparent that such a unique project was extremely catchy and fun. There are no points system, no special powers, no ability to survive deadly attacks… it’s as real as it can get in the Aliens series. If your charactor dies, that’s it. No second chances. You will be tested on your IQ, and have tests that will score your survival rating.”
If you like the sound of this project, then go to the AXOD: Colonial Marines website for more information and their Forum.

IGN have carried out an Interview with Charles de Lauzarika, the producer of the Alien Quadrilogy Boxset. The interview mostly talks about the Alien 3 set but here’s one of the questions:
“IGN DVD: So is this it? Are these the cuts that the directors can live with and are satisfied with, Fincher aside?
Lauzarika: You know, you’d have to ask them because I think that each one of them had a different response to that. I think Cameron prefers the longer cut of Aliens, Ridley prefers the original cut of Alien, Jeunet doesn’t even care about the expanded Resurrection because he likes the original cut. Everyone probably has a different answer, so to me, this is more for the fans in terms of the extras and being able to see a comprehensive overview of the extras..”
IGN also published a Review of the final bonus disc by summarizing each special feature and they gave the Alien Quadrilogy Boxset and overall score of 9/10.

Yesterday they published the Alien 3 set review, but today IGN has published their Alien Resurrection review in the Alien Quadrilogy Boxset. They have given it an overall 5/10 mainly due to the film itself. Here’s an extract:
“Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, the print is pretty much the same as the 1999 release. Color levels are somewhat murky, with everything looking slightly smeared. The film is full of dark colors and there is a tendency for bleed in places.”
