There’s a new article in the latest issue (Feb 2012) of Empire Magazine and they’ve spoken to Ridley Scott. Fortunately, forum member Gazz has transcribed the article for us. Here’s the important bits:
Barring a beach scene in the long cut of Alien 3, the new film will feature the franchise’s first genuine exterior, with Iceland’s black lava fields providing the new planet’s hardscrabble surface (LV-426 was created on a soundstage). Thematically, too, it’s gone big. This is God versus Science, and the survival of not just the crew (most of whom probably don’t) but mankind itself. In other words, there is a whole 2001-vibe going on. “It’s gone off in a new direction,” boasts Scott “, but I promise it will engage you in the first five minutes.”
The crew of the Prometheus (the ship’s name designed to echo the Greek myth) follow a perplexing message to a planet that will open their eyes and their chests to a new alien race. “A crew of scientists embark on a journey somebody else is paying for,” says the director, referring to the fact Charlize Theron’s Meredith Vickers is a “suit” for a certain Weyland-Yutani. Meanwhile, Michael Fassbender may or may not be an early model of Ash’s android and may or may not be trustworthy. And Noomi Rapace’s archaeologist heroine, Elizabeth Shaw – a spiritual cousin to “Rippers” – is one half of a conflicted couple of Logan Marshall-Green’s Holloway: “One comes from a position of faith, and the other is pure scientist,” details Scott. Both are going to have a lot to swallow.
When asked about the recently released production stills showing the humanoid head in the Ampule Chamber, Ridley says there’s ‘more to it’ and goes on to say ‘I’ve locked up all the sweet stuff…” Including something familiar, perhaps?’. You can read the full interview in the forum. Thanks to Gazz for transcribing the interview.

There’s a new interview with Sigourney Weaver over on IndieWire where they spoke to her at the Marrakech Film Festival. She talks about Avatar and Prometheus but there’s nothing overly new in there. Sigourney wishes Ridley Scott luck with the movie and says Charlize Theron is a wonderful actress. Here’s the main bits:
“Ridley and I talked about the idea of ‘Prometheus’ and I always thought that was the only story to tell…So I think it’s great that Ridley is doing it,” she said. “I will be as excited as anyone to see how he recreates this creature, re-energizes the Alien. I’m very proud of our four movies and I wish him all the best with it.”
“Well, you know [the iconic nature of Ripley] happened over four movies so let’s give [Theron] a break. I’m sure they’re not trying to create a blonde Ripley or anything. She’s a wonderful actress, she’ll want to do her own thing with it and not be in the shadow of the other one.”
She goes on to say that she didn’t want to do another Alien movie because 20th Century Fox wanted to set it on Earth. She also recollects her time on Alien 3 about how the studio was rushing to get the film completed in time. Thanks to Darkoo for the news.

Earlier, AlienPrequelNews originally got their hands on a shot of the first Prometheus poster. Collider have since posted a high-res version online.
The poster shows someone exploring with the humanoid head in the background. The tagline reads: ‘The Search For Our Beginning Could Lead To Our End’.

AvPSpectrum is currently running an Aliens competition on their website. Up for grabs is a copy of Aliens Omnibus Volume 1, Aliens #1, a copy of Aliens Infestation for the Nintendo DS as well as a limited edition Lenticular Aliens Infestation Print and a AvPSpectrum cap.

I must admit the print looks quite nice. There are no location restrictions from what I can gather. You must be a member of the site and answer the Aliens-related questions on their competition page. The competition closes December 15th.

The CEO of Fox, Tom Rothman, has spoken to MTV about the recent trailer leak. He said he was disappointed that it had leaked.
On the red carpet of the Gotham Independent Film Awards, Rothman spoke with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz about his disappointment with the leaked trailer. “I heard some of it leaked, which wasn’t so good,” he said.
For such a drawn-out buildup, the release of the bootleg trailer marked a point of anticlimax. To Rothman, the leak was nothing short of a severe injustice. “That’s not fair. It’s heartbreakingly unfair, because … the quality of the visuals is as spectacularly beautiful, shot in 3-D compositionally the way only a master could do it,” Rothman said. “For some early, early, early, early half-baked, half-assed test to leak, it’s so unfair.”
The Fox exec did, however, guarantee that the film will make a splash once it sees a proper release. “I will promise you this: When that material is ready and it comes out, you should go see it in 3-D on a screen. It will deliver.”
He goes on to say the movie is 95% unto itself while fans will spot the strands of the Alien DNA. Thanks to Darkoo for the news.

I recently got the chance to see a brand new trailer for Prometheus. The video is one minute long and it’s a mix between brand new scenes, scenes from the Comic-con footage and the recently leaked trailer. Below you can find a detailed description of the trailer, make sure to click the read more button:
- The trailer starts with the 20th Century FOX logo. You hear a transmission. A woman (which I assume to be Rapace) is saying “…got to stop… was wrong.. so wrong…I’m so sorry…”. You can hear the last part very clearly.
- The first scene shows a spaceship (similar to the one seen in the first leaked trailer) flying towards a planet on the background.
- Next you see is the surface of a planet and some sort of facility. It kinda looks like a Lunar base to me.
- Now they show this scene from the Comic-con footage.
- You can see the film’s title forming in the background during most of the trailer. Pretty much like in the introductory scene of Alien.
- Next is the Ampule room. They show it off from all different angles and finally a close up of the ampules. Suddenly you hear a high pitch scream. It’s not human. It sounds like if it was from a facehugger. Then there’s a lot of smoke from what seems to be acid corrosion. They show a guy in a spacesuit. He’s alone. Screaming and putting his hands over his helmet. It looks just like the Kane/derelict scene in Alien.

There’s a new interview with Ridley Scott over on The Wall Street Journal. There’s no major spoilers. Here’s the main points:
- The movie is about a higher being who challenges the gods.
- The last 8 minutes of the film ‘evolve into a pretty good DNA of the Alien one’. In other words, the movie ends where Alien picks up.
- Sigourney Weaver doesn’t make any kind of cameo appearance.
- The movie was shot in 3D with CGI.

AlienPrequelNews have released three new set images from Prometheus. The first shows a vehicle which you may have seen in the leaked Comic-Con trailer images a while ago. The second image shows the feet of an object we saw from the official production still. Apparently, this is a Lifter. Lastly, there’s a new shot of the alien tunnels.

AlienPrequelNews have posted a few new pictures from the Prometheus set. They range from various props to more interesting giger-esque set pieces. Check the last four out at the bottom of the page. The first three show biomechanical structures like on the Derelict while the last picture shows a map of some kind which was found on the inside of an alien cave.
